Whale Sanctuary of El Vizcaino (UNESCO/NHK)
Located in the central part of the peninsula of Baja California, the sanctuary contains some exceptionally interesting ecosystems. The coastal lagoons of Ojo de Liebre and San Ignacio are important reproduction and wintering sites for the grey whale, harbour seal, California sea lion, northern elephant-seal and blue whale. The lagoons are also home to four species of the endangered marine turtle.

The Sierra del Carmen, also called the Sierra Maderas del Carmen, is a northern finger of the Sierra Madre Oriental in the state of Coahuila, Mexico.The Sierra begins at the Rio Grande at Big Bend National Park and extends southeast for about 45 miles , reaching a maximum elevation of 8,920 feet .Part of the Sierra del Carmen is protected in the Maderas del Carmen Biosphere Reserve as part of a bi-national effort to conserve a large portion of the Chihuahua Desert in Mexico and Texas.

The Sacred Plants in the Americas conference was held on February 23, 24, and 25, 2018 in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. The conference had the purpose of building a bridge between indigenous and traditional psychoactive practices, psychedelic science, and drug policy through multidisciplinary and intercultural dialogue. In a context in which drug policy reforms are temporary, we consider it relevant to build spaces for discussion about psychoactive species and their growing multiplicity of uses. Moreover, it also sought to give voice to the indigenous people, who have been knowledgeable about psychoactive plants since ancient times, and they presented several lectures at the conference.
El congreso Plantas Sagradas en las Américas se realizó los días 23, 24 y 25 de febrero del 2018 en Ajijic, Jalisco, México. Tuvo la finalidad de construir un puente entre las prácticas indígenas y tradicionales de psicoactivos, la ciencia psicodélica y las políticas de drogas; mediante el diálogo multidisciplinario e intercultural. En un contexto en que las reformas a las políticas de drogas son coyunturales, consideramos relevante construir espacios de discusión sobre las especies psicoactivas y su creciente multiplicidad de usos. Además se buscó dar voz a los indígenas, que han sido conocedores de las plantas psicoactivas desde tiempos ancestrales, por lo que ellos impartirán las conferencias magistrales durante el congreso.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Sites are places of importance to cultural or natural heritage as described in the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, established in 1972. Mexico accepted the convention on 23 February 1984, making its historical sites eligible for inclusion on the list. As of 2018, there are thirty-five World Heritage Sites in Mexico, including twenty-seven cultural sites, six natural sites and two mixed sites. The country ranks first in the Americas and seventh worldwide by number of Heritage sites.
Mexico's first six sites, Sian Ka'an, Pre-Hispanic City and National Park of Palenque, Historic Centre of Mexico City and Xochimilco, Pre-Hispanic City of Teotihuacan, Historic Centre of Oaxaca and Archaeological site of Monte Albán, and Historic Centre of Puebla, were inscribed on the list at the 11th Session of the World Heritage Committee, held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France in 1987.In addition to its inscribed sites, Mexico also maintains twenty-one properties on its tentative list, considered for future nomination.

SHA SHA HIGBY-COSTUMER AND PERFORMER
International performance/sculptural artist, Sha Sha Higby is known for her
evocative and haunting performances using the exquisite and ephemeral
body sculpture she meticulously creates herself and moves. Elaborate
sculptural costume, dance, and puppetry explore magic and emotion;
creating an atmospheric world within the borders between death and
life’s Higby started out making dolls and pursued the art of puppetry and
sculpture in her early years. Ms. Higby has performed her unique body of
work throughout the United States, and internationally in Korea, Japan,
Indonesia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Singapore, Australia, Switzerland, England,
Belgium, Germany and Holland. She is the recipient of numerous grants
and awards including the National Endowment for the Arts Solo Theater
Artist Fellowship, The Zellerbach Family Fund, and the California Arts
Council New Genre Individual Artist Fellowship.
She studied for one year in Japan in 1971, observing the art of Noh Mask and
theater and then received a Fulbright-Hayes Scholarship to study dance &
shadow puppet making and performance arts in Indonesia for 5 years at the
Academy of Music, Central Java, Indonesia. In addition to traveling
throughout Southeast Asia to Thailand and Myanmar (Burma), she received
an Indo-American Fellowship to study the textile arts of India, and a Travel
Grants Fund from Arts International to study in Bhutan. She has also recently
studied lacquer arts in Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan through the auspices of the
Japan-United States Friendship Commission.
