An Lá Gaeilge is Mó sa Bhliain!
Bígí linn is Cuirimis Acht na Gaeilge i lár an Aonaigh
The Biggest Irish Language Day of the Year!
Be with us to call for the Irish Language Act!
10-10-10! Is é sin, Dé Domhnaigh 10 Deireadh Fómhair, óna 1 -- 5, beidh pobal na Gaeilge ó fud fad an oileáin ag ghlacadh seilbhe arís ar Aonach Naomh Seoirse i mBéal Feirste le díon na háite ársa seo a ardú le guthanna Gaeilge, agus iad ag éilimh chearta agus ag ceiliúradh bearta. Beidh sé ceithre bhliain an deireadh seachtaine áirithe seo ó thug rialtas na Breataine gealltanas i gComhaontú Chill Rimhinn, Acht na Gaeilge a reachtú ó thuaidh, rud nach ndearna siad go fóill. I 2006 is 2007, le linn do dhá chomhairliúchán poiblí, tugadh le fios go raibh tromlach na bhfreagraí go hiomlán taobh thiar de reachtaíocht cheart-bhunaithe mar a mhol POBAL, eagras abhcóideachta na Gaeilge. Ar 10-10-10, beidh Gaeil ó gach cearn den tír ag teacht le chéile le hAcht na Gaeilge a chur ar ais arís i lár an aonaigh.
Agus tá sé leagtha amach ag POBAL, eagarthóirí an lae, tógáil ar rath dochreidte ócáid na bliana seo caite. Arís eile, beidh an lá Gaeilge is mó sa bhliain ann, le ceardlanna agus imeachtaí de gach saghas. I measc na n-imeachtaí nuachláraithe beidh oll-eachtraí Sorcais Bhéal Feirste, agus ó Ghaeltacht Ciarraí, na Deartháireacha Fanzini, beidh céilí le Máire Ua Bhruadair agus banna ceoil John McGurran, turas stairiúil an cheantair le staraí áitiúil Brighid Mhic Seáin le tosú ar 1.15, ceardlanna scéalaíochta le húrscéalaí clúiteach Co. Fhear Manach Seamas Mac Annaidh, chomh maith le haghaidh phéinteáil, ceardaíocht, ealaíon agus a lán lán eile.
Beidh teaghlaigh, déagóirí agus daltaí scoile ann. Beidh tograí agus aonaid Ghaeilge ann, eagraíochtaí móra agus beaga, taispeántais ag ealaíontóirí agus ceoltóirí, agus ag scoileanna Gaeilge. Beidh seastáin ag eagraíochtaí Gaeilge agus cearta daonna, chomh maith le seastáin eile! Tá an ócáid ag fás go tapa ó bhí an bunsmaoineamh ann, le fonn ar scoileanna Gaeilge agus ar dhaoine eile páirt a bheith acu sa cheoil agus craic, chomh maith leis an deis seo a thapú chun íomhá a n-eagras a ardú trí bhíthin taispeántas agus seastán eolais.
Mar sin, ná déanaigí dearmad! 10-10-10! Dé Domhnaigh 10th Deireadh Fómhair in Aonach Naomh Seoirse, beidh an lá Gaeilge is mó sa bhliain ann, agus fáilte roimh gach duine!
Más maith leat seastán a ghlacadh le heolas nó ábhair Gaeilge a chur ar thaispeáint, ná bíodh moill ort teacht i dteagmháil linn.
10-10-10! Sunday, 10th October 2010, from 1 to 5pm, the Irish community from across the island will once more take over St. George's Market in Belfast to raise the roof of this historic place with the voices of Irish speakers calling for our rights and celebrating our achievements. On the weekend of 10-10-10, it will be four years since the British government gave its commitment at St Andrews that it would enact the Irish Language Act, something which it has so far failed to do. In 2006 and 2007, during two government consultations, the overwhelming majority of respondents supported the rights-based model put forward by POBAL, the Irish language advocacy organisation. Irish speakers from all over the country will be coming together on 10-10-10 to put the Irish Language Act centre stage once more.
Organisers POBAL intend to build on the phenomenal success of last year's event. On what will be once more the biggest Irish language day of the year, there will be workshops and events of every kind. Among recently added events will be: Belfast circus' high wire spectacle, Kerry Italian Gaeltacht show stoppers the Fanzini Brothers, a céilí with Máire Ua Bhruadair and the John McGurran band, an historical tour of the area surrounding the market, led by local historian Brighid Mhic Seáin to start at 1.15, storytelling workshops by renowned Co. Fermanagh novelist Seamas Mac Annaidh, as well as face painting, arts and crafts and much, much more.
Families, teenagers and school children will be there. Irish language groups and organisations, large and small, will be in attendance, as will demonstrations and crafts by artists and musicians, and Irish medium schools. Irish language and rights organisations' stands will feature and many others! The event has grown rapidly since its inception, with Irish schools and others keen to participate in the music and fun, as well as to avail of the opportunity to raise the image of their organisations through exhibitions and information stands.
So don't forget! 10-10-10! Sunday 10th October in St. George's Market, we will see this year's largest Irish language day, and everyone is welcome!
If you would like to reserve an information stand, contact us ASAP and let us know what you will need.

'New beginning' for Belfast and Antrim GAA
'I see this as a new beginning' - Pat Daly, Director of Games Development and Research, speaking at the Gaelfast launch, hoping that Belfast and Antrim GAA will get the lift it needs from the project.
The GAA is investing around one million pounds into a five-year plan to promote Gaelic games in schools across the city and Antrim, involving trainee teachers from St Mary’s University.
‘Primary Schools has always been the backbone of the GAA’, says Daly. ‘We want to re-establish the link between Primary Schools and the GAA in this part of the world’.
‘It’s going to take time but given the methodic approach and the vision that people have, it will be a success’.

Féile an Phobail launch 'Féile 25'
Féile an Phobail (Festival of the People), Ireland's largest community festival returns this year to celebrate it's 25th Birthday with a fantastic line up of music, comedy, drama, talks, exhibitions, children's events and much more. With over 250 events set to take place over eleven days, at 50 venues across West Belfast /Gaeltacht Quarter and Belfast City Centre.
Féile an Phobail was born out of the conflict in Ireland when in 1988 following the executions in Gibraltar of 3 unarmed IRA Volunteers and the tragic events that followed that seen particularly the community of West Belfast demonised by the media and described as 'animals' by the British establishment, local community leaders in the area led by Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD established Féile an Phobail to boost the morale of the West Belfast community and to show the world that West Belfast was a community full of creativity and energy with a passion for the arts, music, sport and craic.
This year's spectacular music line-up features The Charlatans, Happy Mondays, Faithless, Paddy Kielty, The Coronas, The Beat, Damien Dempsey, The Ulster Orchestra and The Priests, LAPD, The Wolfe Tones, Joby Fox, The Grainne Holland Band, The Very Specials and Walking on Cars with even more gigs to be announced.
The discussions and debates genre will prove to be as popular as ever with hard hitting topics and challenging line-ups facing one and another at such events as the renowned West Belfast Talks Back event.
