Snorkeling Silfra Between Tectonic Plates // Iceland

Diving my way around ICELAND - Silfra & ICEBERGS !
For my 30th Birthday in January this year I went to Iceland to dive the clearest water in the world. A place called Silfra which has up to 100m visibility. Also found the icebergs in the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon which were way too spectacularly not to dive! We also visited the famous black beach near Vik & the Skaftafell glacier which had some ridiculous ice formations. I didn't get a chance to go spearfishing this time but plan to head back and try that. Also massive thanks to Stu K for letting me borrow the GH5 & Nauticam rig for this trip!
Check out Biggi from freedive Iceland to book your tour, recommend the freediving tour not the snorkel tour as the snorkel tour is with a dry suit and you can't dive at all.

Scuba diving in Iceland : Silfra Fissure, Thingvellir Park
During a long scuba weekend in Reykjavik, I took the opportunity to enjoy the best of Iceland underwater & beyond : scuba diving in Silfra fissure between the American and European tectonic plates in 100m visibility water, Observing geothermal activity in Geysir and Seltun, Resisting freezing winds near waterfalls of Gullfoss and Oxararfoss and finally relaxing in hot springs of Secret Lagoon and Blue Lagoon.

Snorkeling the Silfra Fissure ICELAND in Winter
Þingvellir National Park, located in southern Iceland, is home to the meeting point of two tectonic plates - the Eurasian and the North American. Silfa is a deep fissure formed between these tectonic plates. The water in the Silfra fissure comes from glacial melt, and it's bluer than blue. Snorkel and dive enthusiasts travel from all over the world to explore these aqua waters.
More info:
The water in Iceland's Silfra fissure maintains a temperature of 35°F (or 2°C) year round. When I told my friends back home of my plan to snorkel in Iceland in winter, they thought I was crazy!
Guillaume and I met our snorkel guides and suited up in a dry suit. Within 15 minutes of doing the march of the penguins toward the water, my toes had gone completely numb and my lips were swollen.
Finally, it was my turn to enter the water. I waddled down the steps and, to my surprise, the water actually felt warm!
Why snorkel the Silfra? The water literally takes your breath away, and I'm not talking about the freezing temperature. Imagine the bluest, clearest water you've ever experienced, and you won't even come close.
After 40 minutes of snorkel time, we emerged. The world outside had received a sprinkling of snow. The color contrast came as a shock, and I preferred my blue underwater oasis. Our snorkel guides offered us hot chocolate and cookies as we peeled off our dry suits and snorkels.
I can't recommend this tour enough, even in winter! Just do it!

MUST DO IN ICELAND | Blue Lagoon & Snorkelling in Silfra
It's our first epic day here in Reykjavik, and we are just ticking off the bucket list items here in Iceland. First up we go and snorkel between two continents at Silfra which is quite possibly the coldest and clearest waters we have ever snorkelled in...
...and after a few hours on the phone to our travel insurance company we gave up on seeing what we can claim to go out and spend some time in the must do day trip - Blue Lagoon...which we can say lives up to the expectations.

Silfra Fissure - The World's Clearest Water
Silfra Fissure is located in Thingvellir National Park in Iceland, the Silfra dive site is approximately 60 kilometres (a 45-minute drive) from Reykjavik. Silfra is the only place where one can dive or snorkel directly in the crack between two continental plates.
The Silfra fissure, is known as one of the top dive sites in the world for two main reasons.
First, the Silfra fissure is actually a crack between the North American and Eurasian continents, meaning that you dive or snorkel right where the continental plates meet and drift apart about 2cm per year.
Secondly, the underwater visibility in the Silfra fissure is over 100 meters, which creates an underwater experience that will rarely, if ever, be surpassed.
The reasons for this astounding water clarity are twofold: the water is cold (2°C – 4°C year round ) as it is melt water from the nearby Langjökull Glacier and this water is filtered through porous underground lava for 30-100 years until it reaches the north end of Thingvellir lake, seeping out from underground wells.
The Silfra water is as pristine as water can get and you can drink it at anytime during your dive or snorkel.
Thanks for watching.

Iceland: A Land of Extremes - Part 1 - SCUBA Diving in Iceland - Silfra & Strytan

Dumpster Diving (Food Rescue in Reykjavik, Iceland)
Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year (approximately 1.3 billion tons) gets wasted. Food waste amounts to roughly $680 billion in industrialized countries and $310 billion in developing countries.
I had the pleasure of couchsurfing with Estelle and the opportunity to go Dumpster Diving with her. She is a huge inspiration and hopefully you are just as moved watching this video as I was filming it.

Is Iceland's Blue Lagoon A Lavish Luxury? | Destination Debunkers
INSIDER's A.C. Fowler heads to Iceland's Blue Lagoon, a natural hot spring. Is it a lavish luxury or an overpriced public pool?
The Blue Lagoon is in Grindavík, a 45-minute drive from Iceland's capital Reykjavík, a quickly growing tourist hot spot. The area is a perfect blend of city and country living.
A.C. tests how crowded it is, if it's worth the $58 admission, and if the lagoon's water and mud really have healing properties.
The Blue Lagoon is one of the most visited destinations in Iceland. 80% of tourists who come to the country trek to the famous thermal waters.
While the physical lagoon is man-made, the natural geothermal waters are sourced from a nearby geothermal field.
The peak season is the summer, so the best time to visit the Blue Lagoon is in the winter.
CEO Grímur Sæmundsen said, To be in the Blue Lagoon and having the Northern Lights, there's nothing that beats it.
The Blue Lagoon also acts as a facility for skin care research, so it makes sense that its biggest selling point is its natural silica mud masks.
Make sure you head to the lagoon early in the day to beat the crowds. Keep it mind that it can be pricey, so make sure you're picking a package that fits your needs. And don't be afraid to lather on the complimentary silica masks.
