Dead Man's Corner Museum Saint-Come-du-Mont D-day 2011
a mio avviso il piu' bel museo che ho visto in normandia
D-Day 2015: D-Day Experience at Dead Man’s Corner!
Day 2: Friday June 5th!
Very Interesting Day 2 in Normandy! After breakfast we visited the new D-Day Experience at Saint-Côme-du-Mont. I can tell, this is the best museum I’ve seen so far in my life. The story of the paratroopers really comes alive in a huge hangar. The quality of the items is amazing and the displays do their job perfectly! Ian Gardner, writer of Tonight We Die As Man, wrote all the English captions for the displays together with Michael DeTrez. I think he did a really good job by telling a story through the eyes of Col. Wolverton in an attention grabbing and immersive way. Besides the items there was a C47 flight simulator which was used on the set of Band of Brothers! All I´ll for say for now is that I really had to think about Lt. Meehan.

The D-Day Experience at Dead Man's Corner Museum in Sainte Come du Mont, in Normandy is a must see for anyone interested in the history of D-Day.
I came away from this a bit stunned. This high tech experience very closely replicated what we D-Day paratroopers saw, felt and heard on on D-Day in 1944.
At 12:30 AM on 6 June 1944 I landed on our Drop Zone just north of Sainte Come du Mont. I fought in the Normandy campaign for 33 days until our unit (101st Airborne Division) was returned to our base in Wiltshire, England.

DEAD MAN'S CORNER : LOCATED AT THE HEART OF HISTORY
Headquarters of the German paratroopers before being taken over by the American paratroopers, it is currently a museum dedicated to the former. Discover the story of this house which holds a unique and authentic collection of artifacts.
Here, the men of the 6th German parachute infantry regiment (PIR) nicknamed the «Green Devils » fought fiercely for three days against the American paratroopers of the 101st Airborne Division. On the morning of June 6 1944, the Commander of the German paratroopers, the major von der Heydte established his headquarters whereas the Dr Roos set up an aid station.
On June 8, as the Germans withdrew to Carentan the American Colonel “Iron Mike” Michaelis established the headquarters of his unit, the 502nd PIR of the 101st Airborne. As you enter this famous house in which the bloodshed took place, you will be engrossed in the atmosphere of the very first moments of the landings as lived by the Germans. The events that took place here have been carefully recreated by the means of authentic artifacts to get you immersed at the core of history. Said artifacts were recovered from the ground for a large part of them and have shaped history. And their story is told by the very eyes of Major von der Heydte.
Mission Albany was a parachute combat assault at night by the U.S. 101st Airborne Division on June 6, 1944, part of the American airborne landings in Normandy during World War II. It was the opening step of Operation Neptune, the assault portion of the Allied invasion of Normandy, Operation Overlord. 6,928 paratroopers made their jumps from 443 C-47 Skytrain troop carrier planes into an intended objective area of roughly 15 square miles (39 km2) located in the southeast corner of the Cotentin Peninsula of France five hours ahead of the D-Day landings. The landings were badly scattered by bad weather and German ground fire over an area twice as large, with some troops dropped as far as 20 miles (32 km) away.
The division took most of its objectives on D-Day, but required four days to consolidate its scattered units and complete its mission of securing the left flank and rear of the U.S. VII Corps, reinforced by 2,300 glider infantry troops who landed by sea.
