Celebrating Buddha's Birthday at Samkwang Temple | Busan, Korea
Every year around Buddha's birthday, Samkwang Temple or Samgwangsa (meaning three rays of light from Buddha) transforms itself into one of the most stunning sights in Korea. Tourists rarely visit the temple, passing it up for Busan's two most famous temples: Beomosa and Youngungsa.
Strangely enough, neither guidebooks nor the country's official Visit Korea website even mention the temple, yet it made CNN's Top 50 Most Beautiful Places in Korea list. I don't think Buddha endorses top 50 lists. But I can tell you this: Samgkwangsa celebrates his birthday like none other.
The date of Buddha's birthday or 'Bucheonim osin nal' changes every year according to the Lunisolar calendar. It usually falls between April and May.

[Korea Tour Guide] Seoul - Bongwonsa Temple (봉원사)
Located at the skirt of Ansan Mountain in Bongwon-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, Bongwonsa temple , as the center of Korean Buddhism Taego, is a thousand year old temple with a long history and tradition. In 889 (3rd year of Shilla Jinseong Queen’s reign), Master Dosun founded it at the ground of Yeonhui palace (now Yonsei Univ.) and named it Banyasa temple. It was destroyed during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592, and later in 1748 (24th year of Joseon King Yeongjo’s reign), it was rebuilt and renamed “Bongwonsa” by two Buddhist monks, Chanjeup and Jeungam.
“Yeongsanjae”, one of the Buddhist rituals and also the Important Intangible Cultural Properties No. 50, takes place at Bongwonsa on June 6 every year wishing for the world peace and the reunification of North and South Korea. It was designated as one of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009. During Yeongsanjae, visitors can enjoy the Buddhist arts such as Beompae (Buddhist temple music for rituals) and dancing. Also, during summer time, “Seoul Lotus Flower Culture Festival” takes place, so visitors can enjoy the beautiful lotus flowers which are a symbol of Buddhism.

Cheong-pyeong Temple, South Korea
Cheong-pyeong temple is located in the mountains around Chuncheon. It is a little difficult to reach but the journey is beautiful, with gorgeous views from the nearby So-yang Dam and a boat trip across a lake before reaching the forest trail that leads to the temple. Thriving with wildlife, clean streams and wonderful sights, Cheong-pyeong Temple is a stunning place to visit.

Korea Sparkling(Seonggoksa Temple)
Construction of Seonggok-sa commenced in 1983, and then completed in 1995. Together with Cheonma-san at left and Munpil-bong at right showing distinguished landscape, the magnificent view of Gobul-san(Galma-bong) is the pride and joy of this temple. The bronze Statue of Buddha shrined in Cheonbuljeon of the Seunggok-sa here is the nation's largest statue of Buddha, the height of which is 12.5m, but 18m inclusive of marble pedestal, striking the visitor with admiration.
Furthermore, Buddha's 10 disciples are shrined surrounding the Sakyamuni Buddha statue in a semicircle. Behind them Geumgang-gyeung engraved in copper plate is put around like a screen. On 10 horse-shoe shaped steps in 210m total length, 1,000 Buddha statues are shrined, the height of which reaches 1.9m adding its majesty.
