Daintree Rainforest | Mossman Gorge | Beach | Wild | Nature | Cairns, Queensland, Australia 2019
My 3rd day in Cairns, Australia. I took a day trip to Daintree, one of the oldest rainforest in the world. My morning starts with a scenic ocean drive from Cairns to Mossman Gorge. We were welcomed by the traditional owners, the Kuku Yalanji people with a smoke ceremony. After had a swim at the gorge, we then headed to Daintree River to experience a wild life cruise on the river. After lunch, we explored the ancient rainforest environment at Bubuji Broadwalk, and at the end of the broad walk, there is one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen in my life.
It was an amazing day!!

Ancient Daintree Rainforest | Cape Tribulation + Koalas & Crocs! | 2019 DYH Travel TV ~ Episode 3
In episode 3 of The Cairns Series we're road tripping from Cairns to Cape Tribulation, the only place in the world where two world heritage-listed attractions exist side by side - The Daintree National Park and The Great Barrier Reef. Thanks to The Adventure Company we now have these unforgettable memories of visiting the ancient Daintree Rainforest, the oldest continually surviving rainforest in the world estimated to be over 100 million years old! Hearing the history of what this rainforest has survived is phenomenal. While we usually like to do things a little differently at DYH Travel TV and a little more out there rather than be guided through our travels, the knowledge the crew had about the rainforest on this trip was mind blowing and put the power of nature into perspective for us!
You can't come to Australia and not hold a KOALA! The award winning Wildlife Habitat will tick off this bucket list item for sure! This stop in Port Douglas is included in the Adventure Company's Rainfoest Tour - Delux Pak.
Also included in your day:
Mossman Gorge - see the crystal clear waters of the Mossman River cascade over boulder formations at Mossman Gorge National Park.
Indulge in a chef prepared lunch and a cold beer just metres from Cape Tribulation Beach
Spend time chilling out where the Rainforest meets the Reef - Cape Trib Beach and take in the thought of being in a place that dates back 120 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the jungle!
Daintree River Wildlife Cruise - 1 hr wildlife cruise and CROCODILES in their native habitat.
** This video is episode 3 of a series including 5 cast who had never met and didn't know any of the 8 day itinerary we had created for them so be sure to check out each episode, released weekly **

Canoeing In The Daintree Rainforest Tropical Queensland Australia With Matowix (For Deidre)
The Daintree Rainforest is a tropical rainforest region located on the north east coast of Queensland, Australia, north of Mossman and Cairns. At around 1,200 square kilometres (460 sq mi),[1] the Daintree is the largest continuous area of tropical rainforest on the Australian continent. Along the coastline north of the Daintree River, tropical rainforest grows right down to the edge of the sea.[2]
Description
The rainforest is named after Richard Daintree, an Australian geologist and photographer (1832-1878).
The area includes the Daintree National Park, some areas of State Forest, and some privately owned land, including a residential community of upwards of 5 people. Some of the privately owned land north of the Peninsula Range is being progressively purchased for conservation purposes under a $15million government scheme involving equal contributions from the municipal (Cairns Regional Council, which includes the former Douglas Shire council), State (Queensland) and Australian Federal governments. As of May 2011, 72% of the properties earmarked for buyback or compensation had been secured. These 'buyback' areas of tropical rainforest included 215 blocks of land purchased by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, and 13 purchased by private conservation agencies.[3][4]
The Daintree Rainforest contains 3% of the frog, reptile and marsupial species in Australia, and 90% of Australia's bat and butterfly species. 7% of bird species in the country can be found in this area. There are also over 12,000 species of insects in the rainforest. All of this diversity is contained within an area that takes up 0.1% of the landmass of Australia.[citation needed] Part of the forest is protected by the Daintree National Park and drained by the Daintree River. The roads north of the river wind through areas of lush forest, and have been designed to minimize impacts on this ancient ecosystem.

Take a journey into the heart of Cape Tribulation and the Daintree Rainforest to Shipwreck Bay, an isolated, private, essentially untouched beach that boasts beauty in every direction, in the form of gorgeous fauna & flora, breathtaking scenery, jaw-dropping marine life, incredible weather and an undeniable energy. Cairns to Cooktown Queensland Trip 2018 My Little Adventures Elim Beach Cape Bedford Cape Flattery
I head off for Queensland from Perth to explore the Far North's Cape York for the first time. A meet up with my Dad in Katherine before hitting the Savannah Way's Gulf Track headed to Cairns and then onto Cape York.
This episode, after leaving Cairns we explore the Daintree, where the rainforest meets the ocean and travel the Bloomfield track towards Cooktown. With a quick look around Cooktown and a resupply of food we head to the beautiful Elim beach where we stay for a few days soaking up the warm sun and the beautiful views. We also explore the nearby coloured sands and Cape Bedford's spectacular views. We reluctantly leave the beautiful Elim beach to head for Cape Flattery.
After a few river crossings and a few encounters with the local animals we hit the beach and turn to the Cape but are stopped making the camp ground by the mine sites gate so we turn back. After a struggle up the big boggy dune to exit the beach we turn for Starcke river.
With Cape Melville and Lakefield National Park closed with have to change our plans of cutting across to Musgrave and head back to Cairns. Along the way we come across the beautiful Isabella Falls and the very friendly locals that help us out with a few car repairs, a lovely dinner and a place to camp, a huge thanks guys!!
Coming up we tackle the Old Coach Road, from the historic gold town of Maytown to Laura and check out Iron Range National Park and Chilli Beach then on to Weipa and the Old Tele Track Cape York.
On my Queensland 2018 trip I tackle some of the well known sites such as the Old Telegraph Track, The Old Coach Road from Maytown to Laura, the Carnarvon National Park, Diamantina National Park, Corner country, the Simpson Desert and Big Red and get my photo taken with the sign on the northernmost point of the Australian mainland.
If you liked the video don't forget to give it a thumbs up and feel free to leave a comment, I would love to know what you think!!!

Wonga Beach to Cooktown (via Daintree National Park)
“Log off. Shut down. Go caravanning!”
This leg of our trip saw us up early and bursting with excitement. We were ready to journey the 150kms from Wonga Beach to Cooktown via the world-famous Daintree National Park, Cape Tribulation and the renowned Bloomfield Track. We had every piece of media equipment charged and ready for action (camera, GoPro, mobile phones and drone), we didn’t want to miss a second of our far north Queensland adventure.
Thankfully it was only a short drive to the Daintree River Ferry, we happily paid the ferry lady a mere $21 to have our car and caravan transported across the crocodile infested river into the world heritage listed Daintree National Park. With lots of oohhhs and aahhhs we weaved along the narrow winding road bound by lush tropical flora. During our expedition we passed ‘hidden’ eco resorts, secluded private residences and even a small township with a school. We stopped at numerous locations to admire and photograph some truly wonderful sights including the magnificent Thornton Beach, the splendid Marrja botanical walk and glorious lookout views.
A pitstop at Cape Tribulation to fuel our tummies and gather our thoughts ensured we were ready to tow our caravan on the challenging Bloomfield Track. Other travellers (& locals) had offered us reassurances that we would be fine towing the caravan along this track, however we were provided constant reminders to heed the signs warning 4WDers to travel with extreme care on the steepest of sections (for all those 4X4 buffs, that means low-low range due to a 31% gradient UP and DOWN). On completion of the track we are able to sum up our experience as follows: AWFULLY NARROW, TERRIBLY TWISTY, DREADFULLY STEEP ….. and we did it without one issue! (Big sigh & really big smile)
To our relief we were back on some sections of flat, straight bitumen road and happily cruised towards Cooktown, but first we just needed to take a brief stop at The Lions Den, a renowned landmark on this stretch of road, for the obligatory photo and to tick that box …. DONE!
Our journey into Cooktown was unexpectedly halted at Black Mountain lookout where we had to view this amazing land feature and read the Aboriginal story that referred to its formation. A mass of black rocks that simply looks like a mammoth bobcat has been used to pile the rocks on both sides of the road – absolutely bizarre!
We were relieved to arrive at our destination – Cooktown Racecourse – not for any special horse racing event, but because this lovely free camp site had rave reviews on WikiCamps (of course) and we weren’t disappointed.
A quick sight-seeing tour of Cooktown next morning included the following stops:
1. The impressive heritage listed Cooktown Botanical Gardens:
Naturally we had to see the distinguished Cooktown orchid (remember we had learnt about this from one of our stay alert trivia quizzes).
2. A short trail-walk from the Botanical Gardens to the splendid Finch Bay (more ooohhhhs and aaahhhhs)
3. The beautiful new esplanade and lovely marina, + IGA and dump point (the last 2 for obvious reasons)
Continue to follow our BeacH2Outback caravan adventures as we journey across the Battle Camp Road to Laura and then head north to the top of Australia ….. hold on to your hats it’s going to be a bumpy ride!
Time to hit the road!

Tarkine
To see the Tarkine is to want to save it. Produced by the Bob Brown Foundation with the support of Patagonia, this short film showcases the spectacular landscapes of takayna/Tarkine.
Interviewed in the film, Bob Brown observes that in the next handful of years the fate of takayna/Tarkine will be decided - protected for all time as a World Heritage Area, a treasure trove of Aboriginal heritage and spectacular wilderness, or dug up and hacked down for a few quick bucks.
Featuring breathtaking drone footage of the coastline, forests, rivers and mountains, this film challenges us all to visit the Tarkine and not be moved to want to save it.
