One of the highlights in the mountain village Ella is the 30-meter high Demodara, Nine Arch Bridge. With a small 30-minute walk through the jungle, you will reach a piece of beautiful architecture that is hidden between lush green tea fields. It is allowed to walk on the bridge and it’s one of the things you must do in Sri Lanka.

1. Little Adam's Peak
Little Adams Peak whether considering the word ‘Little’,it is named after the sacred Adams Peak (Sri Pada –where the foot print of Lord Buddha is preserved) regarding the similarity between the two mountains. Therefore the mountain was called as Little Adams Peak.
“Punchi Sri Pada” is another name for this peak. It is 1141 m in height. Little Adam’s Peak attracts many travelers who come to Sri Lanka. Gradually with an easy hike up to the mountain of Little Adams Peak you can consummation a worth panoramic view. You have to walk through lush green tea plantations, waterfalls and paddy fields while enjoying the sceneries.
2. Mega Zipline
Flying Ravana is Sri Lanka’s first ever zip-line, located amidst the luscious green estates of Ella. The two-wire zip-line stretches for more than half a kilometre, slides at 80kmph and offers a bird’s-eye view of the beautiful hills of the island. It is exclusively designed for adventure enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies who prefer a not so ordinary hillside experience.
3. Ravana Falls
In the misty mountains of tropical Sri Lanka, the wide Ravana falls gushes down a height of 82 feet falling from an oval concave rock. It takes the form of a drooping areca flower during the peak season of its water flow, but its size is reduced dramatically during the dry season. Located in the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary in Ella, this waterfall is the source of many legends and secrets.
4. Ella Rock
When you are hiking Ella Rock, then you start it with a pleasant flat walk along the rail tracks. If you are coming from town, then it’s about two kilometers you walk. At one point, just after a small railway bridge, you turn left. There is a little food stall where you turn left that sells coconuts and boiled sweetcorn. And do not worry about the train. The train that passes here is an old diesel train that you can hear well in advance. and it is so slow that it’s easy to step off the trails when you see it approaching.
5. Nine Arches Bridge
The Nine Arch Bridge (Sinhala: ආරුක්කු නමයේ පාලම,) also called the Bridge in the Sky, is a bridge in Sri Lanka. It is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. The construction of the bridge is generally attributed to a local Ceylonese builder, P. K. Appuhami, in consultation with British engineers. The chief designer and project manager of the 'upcountry railway line of Ceylon' project was D. J. Wimalasurendra, a distinguished Ceylonese engineer and inventor. The designer of the viaduct was Harold Cuthbert Marwood of Railway Construction Department of Ceylon Government Railway. The 1923 report titled Construction of a Concrete Railway Viaduct in Ceylon published by the Engineering Association of Ceylon has details of all the records including the plans and drawings.

Popular rumours suggest that when construction work commenced on the bridge, the Great War began between the empires of Europe and the steel assigned for this site was reallocated to Britain's War related projects at the battlefront. As a result, the work came to a standstill, leading the locals build the bridge with stone bricks and cement, but without steel..

The beautiful nine arches make it a very picturesque spot especially as it is located in a dense jungle and agricultural setting. What are the best things to do in Ella Sri Lanka? We’ll share our Top 3! Tune in to our Ella vlog taking you to the world famous Nine Arch Bridge, Ravana Falls, and a hike up Little Adams Peak for insane views.
If you’re looking for the best things to do in Sri Lanka, we’re sure you’ve heard all about Ella. A mountain town in middle country Sri Lanka, Ella is famous for it’s hilly landscape, lush green tea plantations, and the iconic Nine Arch Bridge. We took a short hike down a path early in the morning to see 9 Arch Bridge, and wow was it worth it! It’s best to get to the site early to avoid crowds, however be sure to stick around for a train time because you don’t want to miss seeing one soar through the Nine Arch Bridge tunnel.
Next up on the list of things to do in Sri Lanka is visit Ravana Falls, one of the widest waterfalls in the entire country. Ravana Falls are a short 15 minute drive outside of Ella town and are well worth a stop! This is not the most impressive of waterfalls in Sri Lanka, however during rainy season the water cascades heavily down an extremely tall series of rocks and boulders that is well worth a visit.
Last but certainly not least on our list of best things to do in Ella Sri Lanka is a hike up Little Adams Peak. This 45 minute hike takes you through gorgeous tea plantations and a steep climb about midway through. But don’t worry, there were people of all ages and physical ability taking the hike up. We highly suggest visiting Little Adams Peak for a 360 degree view of Ella and it’s surroundings. The base of the hike is just a short 15 minute walk from main Ella town, so there is no excuse not to see it!
