Gold Strike Hot Springs - Canyon Run Around Boulder City/Las Vegas
This is a fantastic little adventure that can be done on a short trip. The hot springs were idyllic. Well worth running this again - maybe in colder weather so they'd be more inviting.

Boulder City
In 1928, President Calvin Coolidge signed the Boulder Canyon Project Act which authorized the building of Hoover Dam and the creation of Boulder City. For years, the Colorado River flowed uninterrupted from the Rocky Mountains to the Gulf of California. Its unpredictable path often caused flooding in the spring, and then it would dry up in the summer. By the 1920s, it became apparent that something needed to be done to control the route of the lower Colorado. The only way to do this was to construct a dam and harness the river while providing flood control and badly needed electricity to the western states. A company composed of six separate construction companies was awarded the contract to build the dam in 1931.

Gold Strike Hot Springs: Hiking Las Vegas
The INCREDIBLE Gold Strike Hot Springs hike is in Boulder City, about 30 minutes from Las Vegas and Henderson. At about 8.5 miles and 1,000' in elevation change, this hike is rated STRENUOUS. There are several ropes throughout the bouldering sections to help with safe passage. This trail is closed during the summer due to high heat. Take LOTS of water, snacks, and gloves for the rope sections. I have to say, with so much landscape diversity and so many technical aspects, this is my new favorite hike!

Hiking Goldstrike Canyon Hot Springs Las Vegas Nevada
Located in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area along the Colorado River, Gold Strike Canyon contains a number of natural hot springs, ranging in temperature from 70 to 144 degrees. It is possible, albeit rather dangerous, to reach the springs by canoe, but most visitors prefer to make the six-mile hike to the pools from U.S. Highway 93, which takes about two and a half hours.
Features to look for along the way include a water fall, numerous caves, crystalline stalactites and stalagmites, narrow passages, and 100-foot-high canyon walls. Scrambling across boulders is required to reach the hot spring pools, which are terraced into the landscape for about 100 yards. Many of the pools are deep enough for bathing and even swimming. They have a slightly blue-green tint due to the algae that grows in the very hottest water.
To get there from Las Vegas, take U.S. Highway 93 south toward Boulder City and Hoover Dam. About half a mile past the Hacienda Casino (aka the former Goldstrike Casino), take a right onto the road that goes south under the new highway. At the fork in the road past the east-bound highway on-ramp, turn left and go down to the bottom of the canyon. A half-mile further on, the road ends at the trailhead. FOLLOW MOUNTAIN DO

Winter Scenic drive to Mt Charleston in Las Vegas Nevada
Mt Charleston is 30 minutes drive from Las Vegas. A nice change from hot dry desert to alpine. With an average temperature of 20 to 30 degrees cooler than that of the surrounding Nevada desert and a short 35-mile drive from Las Vegas, Mount Charleston is the perfect day trip for nature enthusiasts visiting Sin City. Rising from the desertic landscape near the border of California, Mount Charleston is one of the highest elevations in Nevada and provides visitors with ample opportunities for hiking, skiing, picnicking, and horseback riding. Whether you plan to just stay a day or want to spend the weekend camping or enjoying the fine accommodations of the Mount Charleston resort, are down for a hiking trip or fancy a tandem skydiving adventure, there's plenty in store for visitors to the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
If you find yourself with a free day or weekend in Las Vegas, all you need to do is look to the snow-capped mountain to the northwest—visible nearly half the year from the Vegas strip—and you've found the perfect getaway from the chaos of the city.

Top Tourist Attractions in Nevada, Most 48 Beautiful Places to travel In Nevada
Nevada (Spanish for blanketed; see elocutions) is a state in the Western, Mountain West, and Southwestern districts of the United States of America. Nevada is the seventh most broad, the 34th most crowded, and the ninth slightest thickly populated of the 50 United States. Almost seventy five percent of Nevada's kin live in Clark County, which contains the Las Vegas–Paradise metropolitan area[6] where three of the state's four biggest fused urban communities are located.[7] Nevada's capital is Carson City. Nevada is authoritatively known as the Silver State as a result of the significance of silver to its history and economy. It is otherwise called the Fight Born State, since it accomplished statehood amid the Civil War (the words Fight Born likewise show up on the state hail); as the Wise brush State, for the local plant of a similar name; and as the Wise hen State.[8] Nevada fringes Oregon toward the northwest, Idaho toward the upper east, California toward the west, Arizona toward the southeast and Utah toward the east. Driving HWY 93 Boulder City, Lake Mead, Nevada
Here we are driving on HWY 93 in Boulder City, approaching Lake Mead. We are getting close to Hoover Dam, about 30 miles outside Las Vegas. Nevada is a beautiful state.
Nevada Motorcycle Road Trip 2014
Pictures and footage of my recent (September 2014) road trip across Nevada.
Started out in Las Vegas. Drove through Mt. Charleston, Pahrump, Hoover Dam and Boulder City, Alamo, Caliente, Picohe, Rachel, Tonopah (Staying overnight in the creepy-as-all-hell, Clown Motel) and then finally back to Vegas via Beatty, around Death Valley, back through Pahrump and finally into Vegas. 4 days in all. Riding with a friend on a pair of Indians.
If you ride a motorcycle...even if you have a passing interest in riding a motorcycle, I can not stress enough just how amazing this trip was. It's like the entire state of Nevada was carved out for bikes. Stretches of open road, sometimes 200 miles at a time, of nothing but flat desert roads. Absolutely astounding. We're going back next year to ride from Vegas to the South rim of the Grand Canyon.
Day Trip: Lake Mead - Hoover Dam - Grand Canyon West
Since Dee & Scott had not seen the desert or the Grand Canyon, we decided to take them out of the city and on a sight seeing adventure.
We left town and headed to the Lake Mead Viewpoint, then to the Hoover Dam & Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, and then out to Grand Canyon West.
What are the best places you've found for day trips from vegas?
