The museum is a modern and active place, where families with children, students, school classes and a large international audience come together to help create design and be part of the museum’s many events, educational activities, talks and family workshops.
We look forward to seeing you!

DESIGNMUSEUM DANMARK - DENMARK, KØBENHAVN
Designmuseum Danmark was founded in 1890 by the Confederation of Danish Industries in Copenhagen and the Ny Carlsberg Museumslegat. It opened to the public in 1895 in a newly-built museum building on what is now H.C. Andersens Boulevard and moved in 1926 to its current location, a former hospital. The museum’s main goal from the beginning was to communicate the idea of quality within design.

[Details]
We continue our journey around Copenhagen with Day 5 where we rented bikes and did a little bit of shopping in the main areas of Copenhagen - Strøget. Had breakfast in Royal Smushi Cafe which houses original danish sweet pastries, visited Hay House and got a lot of goodies as well as dropped by Acne Studios. The SA (sales associate) in Acne Studios told us about an Acne Archive which sells discounted seasonal pieces and sample pieces. I think it is definitely worth the visit if you are into Acne Studios. (mind you - I am not the type of person to find the right things from outlets but I can tell you Acne Archives is amazing!) Next stop was Superkilen which was such a cool place! For the rest of the day, we also visited Design Museum Denmark and had dinner in The Union Kitchen. Thank you for watching :)

Reflected Image - Copenhagen Design Week 2011 at Designmuseum Danmark
ege reinterprets the red carpet in the museum forecourt
The outcome of an encounter between contemporary Danish high-tech industrial production and the 18th-century rococo architecture of Frederiksstad in Copenhagen merges beautifully with the cobblestone paving of the museum forecourt. Past and present are joined seamlessly together as the historic facade of Designmuseum Danmark is reflected in the digital universe created by carpet manufacturer ege, inviting visitors in to explore the Designmuseum's historic and contemporary collections of craft and design.

Peter Jensen's Muses - Designmuseum Danmark
Mildred, Tonya, Jytte, Laurie and Muriel
-- Peter Jensen's Muses
Special Exhibition at Designmuseum Danmark
4 August - 30 October 2011
Peter Jensen has, throughout his career, built up his collections around a single, particularly charis-matic individual, a Muse, who has given time and space to the design. Design Museum Denmark presents a selection of Peter Jensen's Muses.
The exhibition, which is constructed upon Verner Panton's iconic Montana wire shelving system, re-veals the five Muses' differing temperaments. In addition to the clothes and accessories themselves, the exhibition contains photos, sketches, text ... and a live re-cording of a love song performed at a fashion show by Nina Persson of The Cardigans.

Future Copenhagen - Superkilen Park by Bjarke Ingles
At almost a mile long Superkilen wedges through one of the most ethnically diverse and socially challenged neighborhoods in Denmark creating a truly unique urban space with a strong identity on a local and global scale. The park is divided into three zones: the red square, the black market and the green park and is conceived as a giant exhibition of urban best practice - a collection of global everyday objects from the 60+ home countries of the local inhabitants. Initiated by the City of Copenhagen and Realdania Foundation, the project started construction in 2009 and opened to the public in June 2012. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has selected Superkilen as one of the winners of the 2013 Institute Honor Awards, the profession’s highest recognition of works that exemplify excellence in architecture, interior architecture and urban design.
“This project is a joy! This is not only original, but stunning to behold. It is noteworthy for its aesthetic approach, which is straightforwardly artificial rather than pretending to be natural. One of the project’s most exciting dimensions is its inclusion of the diverse community of users. Its bold use of color and public art in spaces that promote social interaction and engagement all exude a high level of excitement and energy through what once looked like residual space. Superkilen shows what can be done with an open, inventive approach within severe cost limitations. It demonstrates the value of powerful visual and spatial moves while keeping connected to the realities of a contemporary multicultural context: the condition of many European cities. The form of the project grew from a community participation process that led to a clear identity and enjoyable series of spaces. As a formal expression it breaks down into pieces and fits very nicely into the scale of the surrounding area as an interesting patchwork.” 2013 Institute Honor Awards for Regional and Urban Design Jury.
The urban park is also nominated for the prestigious Designs of the Year 2013 award by the Design Museum in London. Superkilen and other nominated projects, including the Olympic Cauldron by Thomas Heatherwick and The Shard by Renzo Pianowill be on show in an exhibition at the museum from 20 March to 7 July 2013. The winners will be announced in April.
