Guadalupe Mountains National Park (Devil's Hall Trail)
The Devil’s Hall Trail is a relatively easy hike up Pine Spring Canyon to a narrow, scenic canyon. It is a particularly beautiful hike in the fall when the big-toothed maple trees in the canyon are turning brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow. Any time of year hikers can marvel at the large cliffs rising up to Guadalupe Peak and the geological processes that created Devil’s Hall and the Hiker’s Staircase.
Guadalupe Mountains National Park - The Devils Hall
Day 4
On the last day of my trip to GUMO I hiked the Devils Hall Trail. I started very early; before the sun had come up. I had the entire trail to myself. I had a great time hiking through the wash and seeing the awesome rock formations. It was a great way to end the trip and was an amazing dayhike.
Hiking Devils Hall Trail ~ Guadalupe Mountain National Park, Texas
We pulled into Guadalupe Mountain National Park a little after lunch and decided to get a quick hike in. The best short hike that we could get to is Devil's Hall and its a short 4 mile hike. It started to rain on us by the time we got into the canyon but it was no real problem. The hall was really really cool and it is a great short hike to do if you are ever all the way out in the middle of nowhere western Texas.

Guadalupe Mountains National Park - Hiking McKittrick Canyon & Devil's Hall in one day
We were super excited about hiking Guadalupe Mountains National Park because we were lucky enough to time it perfectly for the fall colors and therefore see McKittrick Canyon Trail at it's best - and I can see why it is often called The Most Beautiful Hike in Texas. Because we were feeling ambitious we tacked on the Devil's Hall trail on the same day.

Hiking to The Bowl in Guadalupe National Park, Texas
When we first got to Guadalupe National Park the ranger told us the prettiest hike was the bowl. We really wanted to get to the peak so we did that first, but on our second day we took his advice and hiked the bowl. It was an amazing hike and well worth the 2500 ft of vertical gain. We did it in a loop connecting it with another trail. I am glad that we did that because the views coming back down the mountain were out of this world. This really was the best hike in Guadalupe National Park.

Exploring Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Texas
Guadalupe Mountain is the tallest peak of Texas at 8,700 feet. We visited the park and climbed to the very top to TX! It's a small park with a few other trails, but the main attraction is the summit.

Backpacking the Most Beautiful Spot in Texas - McKittirck Canyon
In Part 3 of my 3 part trip to Guadalupe Mountains National Park, I hike through The Most Beautiful Spot in Texas, McKittrick Canyon. I start in the desert near the mouth of the canyon and eventually make my way past the Pratt Lodge, the Grotto, the Hunter Line Shack, and up one of the hardest climbs in the state to McKittrick Ridge Campsite. The views from the top are breath taking. After reaching the campsite, I have now finished every trail at Guadalupe Mountains National Park.
It was a great way to end my trip in a place that is very special to me.

Devils Hall Hike Guadalupe National Park
We hiked the Devil's Hall at Guadalupe National Park on a pretty windy day. This hike has some large rocks and can take some strength to get through. It is beautiful and had some Fall color and many mountain scenes. I highly recommend this hike if you are in the area.
Hiking Bartlett Peak and Mt. Pratt - Guadalupe Mountains National Park, TX
A longer hike in the Guadalupe Mountains, comprising mostly of trails and then off trail for a ways to bag the two peaks. This was my third day of hiking after doing the Franklin Mountains in El Paso, and Baylor Peak, the Organ Needle, and Tortugas Mt. in New Mexico.

Guadalupe Mountains: Texas' Four Highest
Teamed up with Zachary Teich in Guadalupe National Park to day-hike the four tallest peaks in Texas: Guadalupe Peak 8751, Shumard Peak 8615, Bartlett Peak 8508, and Bush Mountain 8631, in that order. We got an early start in the fog and low clouds, which burned off by mid-morning resulting in a spectacular day with light and variable wind.
