이곳은 미국 서민들의 일상을 가장 가깝게 만날 수 있는 곳이다. 오늘은 브로드웨이에 장이 서는 날. 시장 앞에 많은 사람들이 기다리고 있었다. 한국의 5일장처럼 이곳에도 일주일에 한 번, 7일장이 선다. 이 시장은 이 지역 농민들이 자율적으로 운영하는 농민 시장이다. 대부분 농민들이 생산한 채소가 주류를 이루고 있다. 나도 이들과 함께 시장 구경에 나섰다. 늘어선 가게들 가운데 가장 눈에 들어오는 곳이 호박꽃을 파는 채소 가게였다. 나는 궁금해서 호박꽃을 어떻게 요리하는지 농민에게 물었다. “치즈와 함께 튀겨도 되고 구워도 됩니다. 또는 잘게 잘라서 올리브 오일과 마늘을 넣고 께사디아로 먹어도 되요. 이탈리안 치즈와도 잘 어울려요.“ 멕시코 사람들의 주식인 또르띠야를 파는 가게다. 언제부터인가 또르띠야는 미국사람들이 즐겨먹는 음식이 되었다. 친절한 가게 아가씨가 촬영하는 나에게 맛을 보라며 또르띠야 한 조각을 건네주었다. 옆 가게에서는 멕시코 기념품을 팔고 있었다.

Flash flood and severe thunderstorm warning in New York the other night so I knew I had to go out and make a video. Binaural rain and umbrella ambience sounds while walking in thunderstorm in New York City. Best if listened to with headphones for a completely immersive surround sound experience. Walking takes place in Manhattan, NYC and includes some of walking in Times Square. There are some moments of insane downpour rainfall and other moments of light rain mixed with the sounds of New York City traffic and city noises. There wasn't a planned destination. This was just walking aimlessly through the big city. Sounds good for entertainment. I really wish I had my camera with me at the time. Would have been awesome. I hope you like my video. Enjoy!

Evening walk in Midtown New York City in the rain. This will probably be my last rain walking video in New York for a while as I'm back in Washington DC to prepare for my trip to Japan and Iceland. But until then, please enjoy the sounds of natural rainfall and city ambience, Please be warned that the video contains sounds of loud horns, traffic and sirens. The Pentagon Papers Released: Top-Secret Study on the Vietnam War (1971)
The Pentagon Papers, officially titled United States -- Vietnam Relations, 1945--1967: A Study Prepared by the Department of Defense, is a US Department of Defense history of the US' political-military involvement in Vietnam from 1945 to 1967. More:
The papers were first brought to the attention of the public on the front page of the New York Times in 1971. A 1996 article in The New York Times said that the Pentagon Papers demonstrated, among other things, that the Johnson Administration had systematically lied, not only to the public but also to Congress, about a subject of transcendent national interest and significance. The report was declassified and publicly released in June 2011.
Daniel Ellsberg knew the leaders of the task force well. He had worked as an aide to McNaughton from 1964 to 1965, had worked on the study for several months in 1967, and in 1969 Gelb and Halperin approved his access to the work at RAND. Now opposing the war, Ellsberg and his friend Anthony Russo photocopied the study in October 1969 intending to disclose it. He approached Nixon's National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger, Senators William Fulbright and George McGovern, and others, but none were interested.
In February 1971 Ellsberg discussed the study with New York Times reporter Neil Sheehan, and gave 43 of the volumes to him in March. The Times began publishing excerpts on June 13, 1971; the first article in the series was titled Vietnam Archive: Pentagon Study Traces Three Decades of Growing US Involvement. The name Pentagon Papers for the study arose during the resulting media publicity. Street protests, political controversy and lawsuits followed.
To ensure the possibility of public debate about the content of the papers, on June 29, US Senator Mike Gravel (then Democrat, Alaska) entered 4,100 pages of the Papers to the record of his Subcommittee on Public Buildings and Grounds. These portions of the Papers were subsequently published by Beacon Press, the publishing arm of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations.
Article I, Section 6 of the United States Constitution provides that for any Speech or Debate in either House, [a Senator or Representative] shall not be questioned in any other Place, thus the Senator could not be prosecuted for anything said on the Senate floor, and, by extension, for anything entered to the Congressional Record, allowing the Papers to be publicly read without threat of a treason trial and conviction. This was confirmed by the Supreme Court in the decision Gravel v. United States.
Later, Ellsberg said the documents demonstrated unconstitutional behavior by a succession of presidents, the violation of their oath and the violation of the oath of every one of their subordinates. He added that he leaked the Papers to end what he perceived to be a wrongful war.

I Have a Dream speech by Martin Luther King .Jr HD (subtitled)
I Have a Dream is a public speech that was delivered by American civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963, in which he called for civil and economic rights and an end to racism in the United States. Delivered to over 250,000 civil rights supporters from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., the speech was a defining moment of the civil rights movement and among the most iconic speeches in American history.
Under the applicable copyright laws, the speech will remain under copyright in the United States until 70 years after King's death, through 2038.
