9/2013 Hawaii Honolulu Oahu Waikiki Hanauma Bay -Film-
COLOR 16MM FILM, OAHU, HAWAII 1959-60, WAIKIKI BEACH, DOWNTOWN HONOLULU
This 16mm film has a lot of really interesting scenes in it. Waikiki and the beach and downtown Honolulu are only a small part of this really great color film. At one point I believe there is movie being made about a pretty Japanese girl and some soldiers. The Alamo is playing at the local movie theater and a new Hotel is going up on the water front at Waikiki.
Historical Hawaii 1940, Pacific Fleet, Lahaina. Pioneer Mill Company, Waikiki Beach.
This was taken around 1940 when the Pacific Fleet was anchored at Lahaina Roads off Maui. The beginning of the video shows a gathering of people at a park watching people hula dance. This shows a few interesting places like the Waikiki Natatorium war Memorial, Waikiki Theatre, Honolulu Academy of Arts, Hilo County Jail in Hawaii, surfing on Waikiki Beach, indoor ice skating, Lahaina. The Pacific Fleet off the Lahaina coast, Sailors having fun, the Pioneer Mill Company and locomotive number 4,, etc. Any comments would be appreciated. If you see anything and know any of these people, places, etc. your comments would be appreciated.
Iolani Palace - Honolulu in the U.S
Iolani Palace, in the capitol district of downtown Honolulu in the U.S. state of Hawai?i, is the only royal palace now a part of the United States. It was used as an official residence of the reigning Hawaiian sovereign and is now a National Historic Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Two monarchs governed from ?Iolani Palace: King Kalakaua and Queen Lili?uokalani, although Kamehameha III, IV, V, and William Charles Lunalilo had their main residences here as well. After the monarchy was overthrown in 1893, the building was used as the capitol building for the Provisional Government, Republic, Territory, and State of Hawai?i until 1969. The palace was restored and opened to the public as a museum in 1978.

LONG STORY SHORT WITH LESLIE WILCOX: John Rampage | PBS Hawaiʻi
Original Air Date: Tues., Nov 11, 2014
John Rampage got the performing bug early in life. As a young boy, he acted on stage and danced classical ballet, and at one point, even considered dance as a career. This background provided the base for John's current role as artistic director of Diamond Head Theatre, where he's responsible for everything from selecting the shows performed, all the way down to the color of a performer's shoes. Throughout, he's handing down his decades of experience and love of theatre to the next generation.
Kazuto Miyajima at the Mission Houses Museum, Honolulu
Our HTIC speech class visited the Mission Houses Museum near downtown Honolulu on September 1, 2009. The students toured the houses and listened to stories by their guide, Mike Smola.
The students also viewed a special exhibit called Alphabet Soup: Literacy, Language & Learning about literacy, the development and preservation of the Hawaiian language using objects on display from the museum collections.
Among the objects was a pocket watch presented by President Abraham Lincoln to Rev. James Kekela, the first ordained Native Hawaiian minister.
Students were asked to choose topic, historical individual associated with the Mission Houses, or an object of particular interest. They reflected on the museum visit and experience. Each was asked to speak about something that was new or surprising. Students had the option of delivering this alone or interview another member of the class.
For more information about the Mission Houses Museum go to missionhouses.org/
In this clip Kazuto Miyajima presents his impressions of this field trip experience.

Khanjar (1980) Honolulu seh aayehi -Hai Pretty mera naam ! A movie by Atmaram(Gurudutt)
Honolulu--In the Hawaiian language, Honolulu means sheltered bay or place of shelter.
In 1795, Captain William Brown of Great Britain was the first foreigner to sail into what is now Honolulu Harbor. More foreign ships would follow, making the port of Honolulu a focal point for merchant ships traveling between North America and Asia.
The UK consulting firm Mercer, in a 2009 assessment conducted to help governments and major companies place employees on international assignments, ranked Honolulu 29th worldwide in quality of living; the survey factored in political stability, personal freedom, sanitation, crime, housing, the natural environment, recreation, banking facilities, availability of consumer goods, education, and public services including transportation.
The Arts District Honolulu in downtown/Chinatown is on the eastern edge of Chinatown. It is a 12-block area bounded by Bethel & Smith Streets and Nimitz Highway and Beretania Street - home to numerous arts and cultural institutions. It is located within the Chinatown Historic District.[20]
The Capitol District is the eastern part of Downtown Honolulu. It is the current and historic center of Hawaii's state government, incorporating the Hawaii State Capitol, Iolani Palace, Honolulu Hale (City Hall), State Library, and the statue of King Kamehameha I, along with numerous government buildings.
Manoa and Makiki are residential neighborhoods located in adjacent valleys just inland of downtown and Waikīkī. Manoa Valley is home to the main campus of the University of Hawaiʻi. President Barack Obama lived in Makiki with his maternal grandparents until graduating from Punahou School, apart from four years in Indonesia with his mother and stepfather.
The Diamond Head Theatre is a cultural institution in the United States. Calling itself the Broadway of the Pacific, it is located on the slopes of Diamond Head in Honolulu, Hawaii. Opened in 1915, it is Hawaii's oldest performing arts center.
On April 28, 1915, a new theatrical group called The Footlights was born when Will Lewers, Mrs. Walter F. Dillingham, Helen Alexander, Margaret Center and Gerrit Wilder appeared in The Amazons by Pinero. The performance took place at the Honolulu Opera House, where our main Post Office on Merchant Street now stands. The legacy of those theatre lovers has grown into the third-oldest, continuously operating theatre in the entire United States.
In 1934, The Footlights reorganized and took on a new name: Honolulu Community Theatre. In the original mission statement still honored today, the theatre committed itself to community service through the art of theatre, involving the people of Hawaii as audience members, stage crew and performers.
During World War II, Honolulu Community Theatre productions entertained thousands of troops at over 300 performances throughout the Pacific (a tradition we continued with the Pacific tour of Ain't Misbehavin' during the 1990 season). Then, in 1952, Honolulu Community Theatre took up residence in the Fort Ruger Theatre, the Army Post's then movie house. Major refurbishments to make that structure a fully modern venue for stage productions included the addition of scene and costume shops, installation of lighting and sound systems, handicapped-accessible restrooms, a first-ever lobby for our patrons and an upstairs addition for expanded office space, spotlights, and sound and lighting boards.
Then, in 1990, came a new name for an old friend and Honolulu Community Theatre became Diamond Head Theatre. With a new energy and professionalism, Diamond Head Theatre is committed to excellence and community involvement now more than ever before.
National Pacific Cemetery
This is a one-minute movie of stills from the National Pacific Cemetery in Honolulu. Among the graves shown are an unknown casualty on Dec. 7, 1941, a medal of honor winner in the Spanish-American War, a marine at a flag raising on Iwo Jima, and a deeply admired war correspondent killed in the closing months of World War II.
Cool Down by: Kolohe Kai (Waikiki to Pearl Harbor Hawaii)
Before I went back home to Philippines, I stayed 3 days vacation in the city of Oahu in the island of Honolulu Hawaii, USA.
Went to their famous beach resort the Waikiki, their historic sites of Pearl Harbor where the World War II of the American-Japanese happened. Anything else just went clubbing, partying, shopping and roaming around. It was super duper great, although I really missed a lot my friends from there.I know somehow,I will see them again,in God's will:)
1945 WWII USS BLACKFORD (APB-45) HOME MOVIES HONOLULU, HAWAII 51784
Dating to 1945, this home movie shows life aboard the USS Blackford (APB-45), a Benewah-class self-propelled barracks ship that was in service with the United States Navy during the waning days of World War II. It was apparently shot by photographer's mate R.E. Markell between August of 1945 and April of 1946. The film begins somewhere off the Sea of Japan with shots of sailors scrubbing the ships' deck (:41), eating sandwiches (:55) and sunbathing. At 1:00 two Japanese floating mines are spotted off the coast of Japan and destroyed by gunfire while the crew observes. At 2:25 sailors play catch on the deck of the ship. At 3:52 haircuts are given on deck. At 4:44 an observant crew member points out an island, possibly Eniwetok, where the ship was stationed for a few months as a floating barracks. Crew members relax and swim, diving off the ship. At 10:25 more swabbing of the deck. At 12:21 crew sleep on deck and are woken up by a crewmate to do more swabbing.
At 14:00 the ship arrives in Hawaii Pearl Harbor and the crew departs for shore in landing ships. At 15:41 are views of Honolulu in the immediate post-WWII period. At 15:57 the Hawaii theater marquee is seen with the continuous show displayed on the marquee. At 16:13 the movie Tokyo Rose is advertised. It was released in February of 1946 so gives a rough idea of timeframe. At 16:18 a soldier tries to get lucky with a beautiful looking Hawaiian woman, but it looks like it goes nowhere. At 16:34 the Lai Fong A fancy dry goods store is shown in Japantown. A tattoo shop is also seen. The Hawaii & South Seas Curio Co. is visible at 18:00 and at 18:04 a sign advertises the Waikiki Baths and surfboard rentals. At 18:17 the beach at Waikiki is shown with Diamond Head in the background. At 22:30 the hula girls do their thing. The film ends with crew of the ship returning to the Blackford in a playful mood. The war is over and their next stop will be the mainland and freedom.
Authorized as LST-1111, she was redesignated as General Issue Stores Ship Blackford AKS-16 on 8 December 1944. On 2 January 1945, her keel was laid down at Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Co., and on 6 March 1945 she was once more redesignated, this time as Self-Propelled Barracks Ship Blackford APB-45. She launched on 9 April 1945 and was commissioned 9 July 1945 at Navy Supply Depot, New Orleans with Lieutenant A. E. Lorance, Jr., USNR, in command.
During the war, Blackford served the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations.Arriving at Pearl Harbor on 19 August 1945, she joined the 3rd Amphibious Force. On 5 October 1945, she was assigned with Occupation Duty for 25 days up to 30 October 1945. During the next eight months she served at Eniwetok, Ulithi, Leyte, and Tokyo Bay as a floating barracks. She departed Yokosuka, Japan, 7 April and arrived at New Orleans 14 May 1946. Moving to Orange, Texas, 10 June, she went out of commission in reserve there 26 April 1947.
After 13 years of being laid up in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet, she was struck from the Naval Register on 1 April 1960. 3 years later, in 1963, she was purchased by Collins Submarine Pipeline. She would serve this merchant role until 1968-1970, when she was sunk as a target by the South African military.
