Night at the Museum - Discovery Center Springfield
Parson Talks Education at the Discovery Center
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Gov. Mike Parson made an appearance at the Discovery Center in Springfield on Friday.
He talked about the importance of education in the state, specifically STEM and opioid awareness.
He also helped announce an award to the Discovery Center of nearly $475,000 in 50 percent neighborhood assistance program credits from the Missouri Department of Economic Development.
Through this program the discovery center will educators age specific lessons in both stem and on the science and and dangers of opioids, Parson said. This will be done in Greene County classrooms, preschools, senior citizens class groups will also be able to come to the center for education field trips at no cost.
The state has authorized the tax credits but the project is still funded through donations.
NAP donors can receive 50 percent of their donations back through state tax credits.
The center's STEM and opioid-related programming is expected to impact more than 10,000 children and adults over the next three years.

This 80-acre slice of the Ozarks outdoors, within the city limits of Springfield, Missouri, is home to this exceptional nature center.
