Houston (Listeni/ˈhjuːstən/ hyoo-stən) is the most populous city in Texas and the fourth-most populous city in the United States, located in Southeast Texas near the Gulf of Mexico. With a census-estimated 2014 population of 2.239 million within an area of 667 square miles (1,730 km2),it also is the largest city in the Southern United States,[7] as well as the seat of Harris County. It is the principal city of Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land, which is the fifth-most populated metropolitan area in the United States of America.
Houston was founded on August 28, 1836, near the banks of Buffalo Bayou (now known as Allen's Landing) and incorporated as a city on June 5, 1837. The city was named after former General Sam Houston, who was president of the Republic of Texas and had commanded and won at the Battle of San Jacinto 25 miles (40 km) east of where the city was established. The burgeoning port and railroad industry, combined with oil discovery in 1901, has induced continual surges in the city's population. In the mid-20th century, Houston became the home of the Texas Medical Center—the world's largest concentration of healthcare and research institutions—and NASA's Johnson Space Center, where the Mission Control Center is located.
Houston's economy has a broad industrial base in energy, manufacturing, aeronautics, and transportation. It is also leading in health care sectors and building oilfield equipment; only New York City is home to more Fortune 500 headquarters within its city limits. The Port of Houston ranks first in the United States in international waterborne tonnage handled and second in total cargo tonnage handled.Nicknamed the Space City, Houston is a global city, with strengths in business, international trade, entertainment, culture, media, fashion, science, sports, technology, education, medicine, and research. The city has a population from various ethnic and religious backgrounds and a large and growing international community. Houston is the most diverse city in Texas and has been described as the most diverse in the United States. It is home to many cultural institutions and exhibits, which attract more than 7 million visitors a year to the Museum District. Houston has an active visual and performing arts scene in the Theater District and offers year-round resident companies in all major performing arts.

PARK HISTORY
Hermann Park is located in one of the most picturesque areas of Houston. Nestled in between the Museum District, the Texas Medical Center and Rice University Hermann Park provides Houstonians with plenty of greenspace to enjoy Houston's temperate climate. Hermann Park is one of Houston's first parks and is one of the premiere parks in the department's inventory of parks.
In 1914 Board of Parks Commissioner, George H. Hermann, donated 285 acres of land for the creation of a park. A year later, in 1915, Houston Mayor Ben Campbell encouraged the city to add to the acreage by purchasing an additional 122 acres.
The entrance to the park is at the intersection of Main St. and Montrose Blvd. A statue of General Sam Houston points the way into the park and its many amenities.

Houston is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Texas, fourth most populous city in the United States, as well as the sixth most populous in North America, with an estimated 2018 population of 2,325,502.[2] Located in Southeast Texas near Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, it is the seat of Harris County and the principal city of the Greater Houston metropolitan area, which is the fifth most populous metropolitan statistical area in the United States and the second most populous in Texas after the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, with a population of 6,997,384 in 2018.[5]
Comprising a total area of 637.4 square miles (1,651 km2),[6] Houston is the eighth most expansive city in the United States (including consolidated city-counties). It is the largest city in the United States by total area, whose government is not consolidated with that of a county, parish or borough. Though primarily in Harris County, small portions of the city extend into Fort Bend and Montgomery counties, bordering other principal communities of Greater Houston such as Sugar Land and The Woodlands.
The city of Houston was founded by land investors on August 30, 1836,[7] at the confluence of Buffalo Bayou and White Oak Bayou (a point now known as Allen's Landing)[8] and incorporated as a city on June 5, 1837.[9] The city is named after former General Sam Houston, who was president of the Republic of Texas and had won Texas' independence from Mexico at the Battle of San Jacinto 25 miles (40 km) east of Allen's Landing.[9] After briefly serving as the capital of the Texas Republic in the late 1830s, Houston grew steadily into a regional trading center for the remainder of the 19th century.[10]
The arrival of the 20th century saw a convergence of economic factors which fueled rapid growth in Houston, including a burgeoning port and railroad industry, the decline of Galveston as Texas' primary port following a devastating 1900 hurricane, the subsequent construction of the Houston Ship Channel, and the Texas oil boom.[10] In the mid-20th century, Houston's economy diversified as it became home to the Texas Medical Center—the world's largest concentration of healthcare and research institutions—and NASA's Johnson Space Center, where the Mission Control Center is located.
Houston's economy since the late 19th century has a broad industrial base in energy, manufacturing, aeronautics, and transportation. Leading in healthcare sectors and building oilfield equipment, Houston has the second most Fortune 500 headquarters of any U.S. municipality within its city limits (after New York City).[11][12] The Port of Houston ranks first in the United States in international waterborne tonnage handled and second in total cargo tonnage handled.[13] Nicknamed the Bayou City Space City”, H-Town, and “the 713”, Houston has become a global city, with strengths in culture, medicine, and research. The city has a population from various ethnic and religious backgrounds and a large and growing international community. Houston is the most diverse metropolitan area in Texas and has been described as the most racially and ethnically diverse major metropolis in the U.S.[14] It is home to many cultural institutions and exhibits, which attract more than 7 million visitors a year to the Museum District. Houston has an active visual and performing arts scene in the Theater District and offers year-round resident companies in all major performing arts.

Houston - City Video Guide
Houston is the most populous city in Texas and one of the largest cities in the USA, situated near the Gulf of Mexico.
Built on the businesses of energy, shipping and aerospace, Houston is also a very cultural city. Beneath the downtown skyline, the parklands of Discovery Green are filled with striking public art. Some of the most popular institutions in the nearby Museum District are the Menil Collection, Rothko Chapel and the Museum of Fine Arts.
Hermann Park, also within the district, is home to the soaring Pioneer Memorial and the Reflecting Pool. Set within the park is the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center.
Kids will love the rides at Galveston Historic Pleasure Pier. The city's biggest attraction, of course, is Space Center Houston, where you'll experience mankind's greatest adventure.
When the sun starts to set, refuel on some fiery Tex Mex cuisine and get ready for another day in Houston, the brightest star in Texas.

If you are looking to visit Houston, Texas this virtual tour will show you around the downtown and midtown areas. Around downtown Houston is a park called Buffalo Bayou that is a great place to exercise and be active. Most of downtown Houston is a related to the powerful oil industry that dominates much of the Houston economy. From my opinion Houston is a livable city but not much of a tourist city.

Houston - City on the Move
We use a combination of Aerial & Ground level cameras to show the great city of Houston on the Texas Gulf Coast. For licensing or stock footage of this video contact Tampa Aerial Media.
Houston named after General Sam Houston who help to win Texas independence from Mexico in the Battle of San Jacinto fought on April 21, 1836, in present-day Harris County, Texas.
Houston Texas, one year after category 4 Hurricane Harvey brought devastating floods to many neighborhoods. Now a year later, Houston is in full gear back on the move. The city came together during the hurriane helping each other and it had a unifying affect on this largest city in popluation in Texas. The greater metropolitan area of Houston is 2nd behind Dallas-Fort Worth, however within the city limites Houston is the 4 largest city in population in Texas. No wonder traffic was pretty bad during rush hour.
We feature Minute Maid Park home of the Houston Astros, who became world champions less than a couple of months after Harvey. It gaved many in the city something to rally together in after dealing with the challenges of the hurricane.
We also feature Metro Rail which has been serving Houston since 2004.
