Tennessee | Jack Daniel's Distillery Tour
While in the Nashville area, we decided to take a tour of the Jack Daniel's Distillery which is located 75 miles south in the small town of Lynchburg.
Jack Daniel's is the number one selling brand of whiskey in the world and it is not to be mistaken with the bourbon whiskey's that come from some of the northern states. Jack Daniel's is a sour mash whiskey, and is only made at the Lynchburg site - with 2016 being the 150th Anniversary.
There are a few different tours on offer, one of which is a 'tea-total' option which does not include any sampling. We chose the Angel's Share tour as it appeared to be the most comprehensive and on a personal level involved sampling products that I have not tried before.
The tour itself takes you around all areas of the distillery, though incase you are wondering why some areas are missed off the video (Still house, charcoal mellowing areas, certain areas of the barrell house) its because there is a very strict no photography policy enforced. The tour was excellent and our guide, Brian was very knowledgeable on all things Jack!
Ironically the distillery and Lynchburg is located in a Dry Country (Moore County) i.e. ''No Alcohol for Sale', this dates back to the prohibition era. The only place you can purchase the different Jack Daniel's products is within the White Rabbit Saloon which was formerly located within the town square of Lynchburg, but is now the store within the Jack Daniel's visitor center. This is the only place in Lynchburg where Jack Daniels (alcoholic) products can be purchased. The general store within Lynchburg itself sells cakes, coffee and other items which are made with Jack Daniels, but these products are not branded as Jack Daniels and contain a very low (if any) alcohol content - because its a dry county!
If you appreciate Jack Daniel's then the distillery is worth a visit!

Today's journey took us into Lynchburg, Tennessee to visit the world famous Jack Daniel's Distillery. Jack Daniel's, strangely enough, sits smack dab in the middle of the dry county of Moore. We chose the 'Flight of Jack Distillery Tour' which guided us through Mr. Jack’s property, teaching us all about the old-time Tennessee whiskey-making process. The tour finishes with a memorable stop at the historic Barrel House 1-14 where we, despite the dry county, were permitted to sip five of their most popular whiskeys and liqueurs.
A great big shout out to, Jack Daniel's and Lynchburg's own, Ron Craig for providing us with one of the most memorable tours that Andy or I have ever seen. Outstanding Job!

Jack Daniel’s Whiskey Distillery Tour
From Cave Spring Hollow is Lynchburg’s greatest natural resource. Drawing 800 gallons of water from miles below the Earth’s surface every minute, it’s our whiskey’s lifeblood. Crisp, cool, and a constant 56-degrees.
Jack Daniel purchased the hollow and its surrounding land for $2,148. Which, at the time, was a fortune and then some. An amount most people would be hesitant to part with, no matter the investment.
So what did Jack see in the water that made the cave spring such a necessity?
Absolutely nothing. As in no sediment. No impurities. Just clean, pure, spring water. It’s about as natural as you can get.
The Jack Daniel's Statue
The cave’s layers of limestone naturally impart a variety of minerals to the water which contribute to the character of Jack Daniel’s. More importantly, the limestone also removes iron from the water. Iron definitely has its uses, but it’s absolutely horrible if you’re making whiskey.
Every bottle of Jack Daniel’s sold around the world is made with the water from this source. Considering all the whiskey that’s come from Jack’s $2,148 investment, we’d say he received a pretty good return.

Here is the epic Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg TENNESSEE. Photography and video is not allowed in the main areas like Fermentation, Mellowing and Barell storage. Had a wonderful and evergreen memory. Loved this vacation trip. Totally different.
