HafSameer travel on London DLR (Docklands Light Railway)(British Public Transport)
Hafsa and Sameer embark on their next adventure and travel for the first time on the exciting London's DLR (British Public Transport) and would like you to join in and enjoy this journey with them. During their journey, they also get to experience the lovely sights including the London City Airport, The O2 Arena and one of London's beautiful financial centres, Canary Wharf.
The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is an automated light metro system opened in 1987 to serve the redeveloped Docklands area of East London, England.[3][4] It reaches north to Stratford, south to Lewisham across the River Thames, west to Tower Gateway and Bank in the City of London financial district, and east to Beckton, London City Airport, and to Woolwich Arsenal south of the river. The system uses minimal staffing on trains and at major interchange stations.
London City Airport is an international airport in London, United Kingdom. It is located in the Royal Docks in the London Borough of Newham, east of the City of London and a shorter distance east of Canary Wharf. These are the twin centres of London's financial industry, which is a major user of the airport.
The O2 Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in the centre of The O2 entertainment complex on the Greenwich Peninsula in south east London. The arena was built under the former Millennium Dome, a large dome shaped building built to house an exhibition celebrating the turn of the third millennium; as the dome shaped structure still stands over the arena, The Dome remains a name in common usage for the venue. The arena, as well as the total O2 complex, is named after its primary sponsor, the telecommunications company O₂.
Canary Wharf is a commercial estate on the Isle of Dogs in London, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is one of the main financial centres of the United Kingdom, along with the City of London, and contains many of Europe's tallest buildings, including the second-tallest in the UK, One Canada Square.

DLR, DOCKLANDS LIGHT RAILWAY, LONDON PUBLIC TRANSPORT, DRIVERLESS TRAINS
DLR, DOCKLANDS LIGHT RAILWAY, LONDON PUBLIC TRANSPORT, DRIVERLESS TRAINS, The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is an automated light metro system opened in 1987 to serve the redeveloped Docklands area of East London, England.[2][3] It reaches north to Stratford, south to Lewisham across the River Thames, west to Tower Gateway and Bank in the City of London financial district, and east to Beckton, London City Airport, and to Woolwich Arsenal south of the river.
The system uses minimal staffing on trains and at major interchange stations; the four below-ground stations are staffed to comply with underground station fire and safety requirements. Similar proposals have been made for the Tube.[4]
The DLR is operated under a franchise awarded by Transport for London to KeolisAmey Docklands, a joint venture between transport operator Keolis and infrastructure specialists Amey plc. It was previously run for over 17 years by Serco Docklands,[5] part of the Serco Group.[6][7] The system is owned by Docklands Light Railway Ltd,[8] part of the London Rail division of Transport for London. In 2017/18 the DLR carried 119.6 million passenger journeys,[1] down from 122.3m the previous year.[9] It has been extended several times and further extensions are under consideration. The DLR has 38 kilometres (24 mi) of tracks,[44] with 45 stations.[45] There are six branches: to Lewisham in the south, Stratford and Stratford International in the north, Beckton and Woolwich Arsenal in the east, and Central London in the west, splitting to Bank and Tower Gateway.[46]
The London, Tilbury and Southend Railway (foreground), operated by c2c, runs alongside the DLR (behind the fence) from Limehouse to Tower Gateway.
The northern, southern and south-eastern branches terminate at the National Rail stations at Stratford, Stratford International, Lewisham and Woolwich Arsenal. Other interchanges with National Rail are at Limehouse, Greenwich and West Ham, while out of station interchanges for Oyster card holders exist between Shadwell DLR station and London Overground's station of the same name, and between Fenchurch Street and the DLR's western termini Tower Gateway and Bank.[47]
Between Limehouse and Tower Gateway, the DLR runs parallel to the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway. Most stations are elevated, with others at street level, in cutting or underground. Access to the platforms is mostly by staircase and lift, with escalators at some stations. From the outset the system has been fully accessible to wheelchairs; much attention was paid to quick and effective accessibility for all passengers.[49] The stations have high platforms matching the floor height of the cars, allowing level access for passengers with wheelchairs or pushchairs.
Most stations are of a modular design dating back to the initial system, extended and improved with two side platforms, each with separate access from the street, and platform canopies, although few examples remain of the original, distinctive rounded roof design. Stations are unstaffed, except the underground stations at Bank, Island Gardens, Cutty Sark, Stratford International and Woolwich Arsenal for safety reasons, a few of the busier interchange stations, and City Airport, which has a ticket office for passengers unfamiliar with the system. Canning Town, Custom House and Prince Regent are normally staffed on the platform whenever there is a significant exhibition at the ExCeL exhibition centre.
On 3 July 2007, DLR officially launched[50] an art programme called DLR Art,[51] similar to that on the London Underground, Art on the Underground. Alan Williams was appointed to produce the first temporary commission, called Sidetrack, which portrays the ordinary and extraordinary sights, often unfamiliar to passengers, on the system and was displayed throughout the network. The system is part of the London fare zone system, and Travelcards that cover the appropriate zones are valid. There are one-day and season DLR-only Rover tickets, plus a one-day DLR Rail and River Rover ticket for the DLR and City Cruises river boats. Oyster pay-as-you-go is also available;[53] or NFC enabled bank card holders (contactless) passengers need to touch both in and out on the platform readers or pass through the automatic gates. Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines at the entrance to the platforms, and are required before entering the platform. There are no ticket barriers at DLR-only stations,[54] and correct ticketing is enforced by random on-train inspections by the PSA. Passengers without a correct ticket, pay-as-you-go Oyster users or a contactless bank card who have failed to touch in at the start of the journey may be liable to a £80 penalty fare or prosecution for fare evasion. There are barriers at Bank, Canning Town, Woolwich Arsenal, West Ham and Stratford, where the DLR platforms are within a London Underground or National Rail barrier line.

driver-less trains. DLR is one of Britain's great transport success stories, now carrying over 60 million passengers a year and consistently achieving record levels of reliability and passenger satisfaction.
Docklands Light Railway -- London (DLR)
One of the first light rail systems in Britain, with one of the world's safest and most advanced automatic train control systems, DLR has expanded faster than any UK railway.
The DLR opened in 1987 to serve the first brownfield developments in Docklands with 11 trains and 15 stations.
Since then, a number of extensions have seen the DLR extended to Bank, Beckton, Lewisham and London City Airport.
Today it is a 31 km railway with 38 stations and 94 vehicles and is now carrying more passengers than ever before. The system currently carries 64 million passengers a year, but this is expected to rise to more than 80 million by 2009.
Through further extensions and enhancements to the railway, the DLR will continue to meet demand while acting as a catalyst for regeneration.

London's Docklands Light Railway - Part 1
Part 2:
This is the first of a two part film showing the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) in London.
The DLR is a relatively new light metro system in East London, mostly serving the redeveloped Docklands area along the river Thames.
It began operation in 1987 and it is fully automated. Trains drive themselves, and the only staff on board is a guard, who operates the doors and supervises the passengers boarding and alighting at stations.
Since inauguration, the system has grown massively. It connects the two major financial centres at Bank and Canary Wharf, the ExCel Exhibition Centre, London City Airport, and reaches as far north as Stratford.
The first part shows the Stratford-to-Poplar branch at Bow Church, Pudding Mill Lane and Poplar.
Enjoy!
Recorded: October 20, 2015.

The Docklands Light Railway is an automated light metro system opened in 1987 to serve the redeveloped Docklands area of East London, England.
London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. At its centre stand the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic ‘Big Ben’ clock tower and Westminster Abbey, site of British monarch coronations. Across the Thames River, the London Eye observation wheel provides panoramic views of the South Bank cultural complex, and the entire city.
