Marie Laveau: The New Orleans Voodoo Queen (Occult History Explained)
Marie Laveau was said to be a voodoo queen in New Orleans who cured the sick, sold gris-gris bags, summon spirits and at one supposedly changed the course of history for one wealthy young man and his father. But whether her voodoo talents were actually divine powers or merely theatrics to help boost her social standing, is up to you to decide.

Abita Amber - The Spit or Swallow Beer Review
Shagdog & Jammer are at the Chris Owens Club 500 Bourbon Street New Orleans, LA having and Abita Amber in the bottle. Rooster & The Chickenhawks perform their weekly.
The Abita Brewing Company is a craft brewery located in Abita Springs, Louisiana, 30 miles north of New Orleans, LA. They first began brewing beer in 1986. That year, the company produced 1,500 barrels of beer. In 2011, Abita brewed over 130,000 barrels of beer and 5,000 barrels of root beer. The Abita Brewing Company produces seven year-round flagship brews (Abita Amber, Golden, Light, Turbodog, Purple Haze, Jockamo I.P.A. and Restoration Pale Ale), five seasonal beers, three Harvest brews, four Big Beers, a draft-only series of Select beers and a root beer all from a state-of-the-art brewing complex.
Abita's flagship beers are sold in 46 US states and Puerto Rico. Abita Brewing Company was the 15th largest Craft Brewery and the 24th largest brewery of any category in the United States ranked by volume sold in 2010.
The company brews its beer with water from artesian wells in Abita Springs. In August 2005, Stuff Magazine called Abita's Turbodog Ale the best beer made in America. The Abita Brew Pub, under independent ownership, is located at the original brewery location in Abita Springs and features Abita beers, with some brews exclusive to the brew pub, under a close partnership with the brewery.
The company also produces Abita root beer, which differs from many others in that it's made with Louisiana sugarcane rather than high-fructose corn syrup.
Turbodog is one of Abita's most popular brews. It is a very dark English style Brown Ale
Abita Bock was listed among the Top 10 Spring Beers by Fox News in 2012. Abita Bock is the brewery's first seasonal brew and is available January - March.
Abita beer is currently served at Disney's Port Orleans Resort, a hotel/resort located in Walt Disney World in the Orlando, Florida area. The resort, themed after New Orleans, serves Abita on tap at restaurants and bars on site.
In February 2012, the company began distribution of three of its flagship brews in cans: Amber, Purple Haze and Jockamo I.P.A
Abita Amber is a Munich style lager brewed with crystal malt and Perle hops. It has a smooth, malty, slightly caramel flavor and a rich amber color. Abita Amber was the first beer offered by the brewery and continues to be our leading seller. Amber is Abita's most versatile beer for pairing with food. It has been voted best beer in numerous New Orleans reader polls and is used frequently in recipes of great Louisiana chefs.
Because of its smooth, malty flavor, try it with smoked sausages, Louisiana boudin, or even with caviar. It's great with crawfish and Cajun food. You might also enjoy it paired with a spicy gumbo or tomato-based pasta sauce. It also goes well also with fried catfish dipped in a tart, lemony tartar sauce. Parmesan, Pecorino and Romano cheeses are good pairings with Abita Amber.
Chris Owens
Chris Owens is a United States performer, club owner and entrepreneur who bases her act out of the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. She has been a French Quarter fixture and celebrity from the start of the 1960s through the early 21st century. Though perhaps not a name of worldwide recognition, Owens is extremely well known in Louisiana and throughout the U. S. South. Tourists visiting the famous Bourbon Street cannot miss huge posters of her wearing revealing costumes as they walk by her nightclub.
Chris Owens (in purple at center) rides as Grand Marshall for the Krewe of Shangri-La Mardi Gras parade.
Details about Owens' past and career are sketchy at best. She can be seen in the 1962 movie The Wacky World of Doctor Morgus (see Morgus the Magnificent).
She eventually met and married millionaire Sol Owens. They opened a nightclub on St. Louis Street in the French Quarter; it was originally intended to be a low-key sideline establishment, but business exploded.
Realizing that Owens' performance numbers were a huge draw, they sold their home in 1977 and purchased the building on the corner of St. Louis and Bourbon. Soon the Chris Owens Review became a noted act in town.
In 1979 Sol had a heart attack and died; Chris Owens took over management of the club and of the 30 apartments and 4 shops located within the building. As of 2007 the club and Owens' act continue to be a draw. She hosts a yearly Patriotic Easter Parade that rolls down Bourbon Street.
Owens began production in 2003 of her first feature film, Let's Ballroom. Owens stars as a wealthy widow who falls in love with her dance instructor.
April 22, 2006 - Chris was inducted into the New Orleans Musical Legends Park with a statue created in her likeness. Her image stands next to other musical greats including Fats Domino.
