Archaeological site of Dodona
The origins of the sanctuary of Dodona, which is known for its nationwide radiation, date back to the Bronze Age (2600-1200 BC). Originally, it was outdoors and it was there that the Great Goddess, goddess of fertility, was worshiped; later, it was replaced by the worship of Dodona Zeus (Zeus Naios) and his wife Dioni.
The first temple, the Sacred House, started being built in the 4th century BC. However, the Sanctuary was fully renovated in the 3rd century BC, during the reign of King Pyrrhus.
At around the Prytaneum, the Bouleuterion and the Theater, which is one of the biggest ancient theaters of Greece (approximately 17,000 seats), were built. Homer, and other ancient Greek writers, mention the oracle of Dodona as the oldest in the Greek world.

The 2nd festival of Dodoni, in Epirus, will begin on Saturday, July 7 aiming to render the archaelogical site of Dodoni a point of reference for the whole region. Η αρχαία Δωδώνη είναι ένας από τους πιο σημαντικούς αρχαιολογικούς χώρους στην Ελλάδα. Αποτέλεσε χώρο λατρείας του Δία, πατέρα των θεών, ενώ πολλά χρόνια πριν την θέση του κατείχε η θεά Γαία. Το μαντείο της Δωδώνης είναι το αρχαιότερο του Ελληνικού κόσμου. Οι επιθυμίες του θεού ερμηνεύονταν από τους μάντεις με βάση τους ήχους της ιερής πηγής , του θροίμασματος των φύλλων του ιερού Δέντρου αλλά και από τον ήχο χάλκινων λεβήτων που βρίσκονταν σε τρίποδες γύρω από την ιερή Βελανιδιά. .Δυστυχώς το μαντείο καταστράφηκε και το ιερό Δέντρο κόπηκε από τη ρίζα μετα την έλευση του χριστανισμού. Παρόλα αυτά ο αρχαιλογικός χώρος της Δωδώνης είναι πλούσιος σε μνημεία του Ελληνικού πολιτισμού, η ιερά οικία, το βουλευτήριο,το στάδιο, η Ακρόπολη κτλ. Το πιο επιβλητικό είναι σίγουρα το αρχαίο θέατρο, ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα ( με χωρητικότητα 18.000 θεατών) και καλύτερα σωζόμενα θέατρα παρόλες τις καταστροφές που είχε υποστεί. Η αρχαία Δωδώνη βρίσκεται σε απόσταση μόλις 22 χλμ από την πόλη των Ιωαννίνων.

Kassopi was the political center of Kassopeans , one of four
most important genders of ancient Epirus among the fourteen that mentioned by Theopomus, a historian of the Four century. B.C
Its geographical boundaries were to the north of the River Acheron,
south the Amvrakikos gulf, east the Louros River and to the west the Ionian Sea.
As evidenced by the impressive buildings and the rich finds of the excavations, the city has enjoyed great prosperity since the mid-4th century Bc until the beginning of the 2nd century Bc. The city had its own mint. Its coin depicted Jupiter and and Afrodite
Its prosperity lasted until 168 BC. In 167 BC. was destroyed by the Romans led by Emilio Pavlos and was finally abandoned by the obligatory settlement of its inhabitants in Nicopolis, at the end of the 1st century BC.

σημαντικότερα φύλα της αρχαίας Ηπείρου μεταξύ των δεκατεσσάρων που αναφέρονται από τον Θεόπομπο, ιστορικό του4ουαιώνα . πΧ
Tα γεωγραφικά της όρια αποτελούσαν στα βόρεια ο ποταμός Aχέρων,
στα νότια ο Aμβρακικός κόλπος , στα ανατολικά ο ποταμός Λούρος και στα δυτικά το Iόνιο πέλαγος.
Όπως φανερώνουν τα εντυπωσιακά οικοδομήματα και τα πλούσια ευρήματα των ανασκαφών η πόλη γνώρισε μεγάλη ακμή από τα μισά του 4 αιώνα μέχρι και τις αρχές του 2 αιώνα. Η πόλη είχε δικό της νομισματοκοπείο. Το νόμισμα της απεικόνιζε τον Δία και άλλοτε την Αφροδίτη.
Η ευημερία της διήρκεσε μέχρι το 168 π.Χ. Το 167 π.Χ. καταστράφηκε από τους Ρωμαίους με επικεφαλής τον Αιμίλιο Παύλο και εγκαταλείφτηκε οριστικά με την υποχρεωτική συνοίκηση των κατοίκων της στη Νικόπολη, στο τέλος του 1ου αι. π.Χ.
