Best Whale Watching Cape Cod - Dolphin Fleet Review & Pilgrim Monument
Friendly Review of Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch Provincetown and the Pilgrim Monument and Pilgrim Museum in Provincetown. We visited Cape Cod Massachusetts in July 2017 and wanted to go on a whale watch. The Dolphin Fleet is well priced and has a lot of departure times. We saw a lot of whales (9 in total) diving, spy hopping, lob tailing, spout breathing, and a lot of breaching (chin breaching, and whole whales jumping out of the water). The was the best whale watch tour that we could have asked for. (with the exception of seeing a bubble net, but I won't complain) I hope your experience is as good as ours was.

The old saying It's better to be lucky than good applies with this story. Reporter Sarah Cody and I drove up to Gloucester, Mass to spend an afternoon on a whale watching boat. We had done a similar story 6 years ago out of Boston and it was frustrating, because all we saw were a couple of Minke whales and they are not the most majestic mammals in the water.
The naturalist on the boat was fantastic and I was able to mic him up and he gave great information in nice short sound bites that I was able to sprinkle in throughout the piece. After an hour we saw our first whale, a humpback, and it was great. It gave us a couple of bursts of air thru its blowhole and beautiful shots of it's tail. While this was going on, I was able to listen in on a conversation between the Captain and the naturalist and was able to record great reaction of their discovery. A pod of North Atlantic dolphins were in site, and we quickly sped over. Theses whales were amazing as they surrounded the boat, and used the wake to perform amazing tricks.
We finished our trip with another humpback whale, knowing we had enough video and still images for a lengthy news story for not only our television station, but also the newspaper.
The editing of the story was enjoyable and we decided to use Bruce Hornsby as a music bed. Not a personal favorite of mine, but the piano and the feel allowed for our video to breathe.

Dolphins & Whales off Cape May
On the way home from a recent offshore fishing trip we came across a pod of dophins and slowed down to watch, only to see a number of whales surface too. First the dolphins circled the boat then began playing in our wake. When the whales appeared in the distance we stopped the boat; shortly thereafter two surfaced right off the bow. (Skip to 3:45 for a great view!) We were about 49 miles from Cape May, and these video clips were recorded by Paul (age 14) and later edited by Dan (age 12) into the video you're watching. You can hear Paul, Dan, and Grace in the background as they're watching. (Recorded 6/30/18)

Most fleets guarantee a whale sighting (mostly humpback whale, fin whale, minke whale, sei whale, and critically endangered, the North Atlantic Right Whale), and one is the only federally certified operation qualified to rescue whales. Provincetown has also long been known as an art colony, attracting writers and artists. The town is home to the Cape's most attended art museum, the Provincetown Art Association and Museum.
