Osaka, Japan - Don Quixote Ferris Wheel (2019)
Don Quijote Co., Ltd. (株式会社ドン・キホーテ Kabushiki gaisha Don Kihōte) is a discount chain store that has over 160 locations throughout Japan, 6 in Singapore, 1 in Thailand (branded as Don Don Donki) and 2 in Hawaii.[4][5] It carries a wide range of products, from basic groceries to electronics to clothing. The store is well known in Japan and is often referred to by its shortened name Donki (ドンキ). Distinctly, Don Quijote tends to keep very late hours for Japanese retailing (to 3 or 5am, or even 24 hours) and it packs its goods from ceiling to floor in a distinct merchandising strategy.
Dōtonbori or Dōtombori (道頓堀, pronounced [doːtomboɾi]) is one of the principal tourist destinations in Osaka, Japan, running along the Dōtonbori canal from Dōtonboribashi Bridge to Nipponbashi Bridge in the Namba district of the city's Chuo ward. Historically a theater district, it is now a popular nightlife and entertainment area characterized by its eccentric atmosphere and large illuminated signboards.
One of the area's most prominent features, a billboard for confectionery company Glico displaying the image of a runner crossing a finishing line, is seen as an icon of Osaka within Japan.
Osaka (Japanese: 大阪市 Hepburn: Ōsaka-shi, commonly just 大阪, Ōsaka) is a designated city in the Kansai region of Japan. It is the capital city of Osaka Prefecture and the largest component of the Keihanshin Metropolitan Area, the second largest metropolitan area in Japan and among the largest in the world with over 19 million inhabitants. Osaka will host Expo 2025. The current mayor of Osaka is Ichiro Matsui.

A Don Quijote store in Dotonbori, Osaka has a large ferris wheel that was recently rejuvenated and opened again in 2018. We enjoyed the 15 minute ride!!

The world's first Ferris Wheel of this oval elliptical design opened in 2005 and was closed and abandoned for almost 10 years prior to reopening in 2018. The Japanese Ferris Wheel is attached to a Don Quijote store, a large discount retailer in Japan. The Ferris wheel was shut down due to mechanical reliability and restored due to customer demand. With most of its life sitting idle, a lot of people thought is was just a large sign or display however it made a great come back in Dotonbori a popular area of Osaka Japan. The Ferris Wheel is also commonly referred to as the Ebisu Tower Ferris Wheel since it sits next to Ebisu Tower overlooking the water and canal through central Dotonbori. The popular tourist attraction also sits nearly opposite of Osaka's famous Glico Running Man sign. While it is known by many names like the Dotonbori Ferris Wheel, Dotonbori observation wheel, Ebisu Tower Ferris Wheel, Don Quijote Ferris Wheel, Don Quixote Ferris Wheel, Donki Ferris Wheel, Osaka Ferris wheel, Elliptical Ferris Wheel or Oval Ferris Wheel, it is certainly a unique and different ride. Unique and compact design is a perfect fit in a highly congested area that offers a one of a kind experience in Dotonbori Osaka Japan.
Besides the Ferris wheel ride see Takoyaki a popular Japanese dish made from Octopus as also as Octopus balls being made in Dotonbori. Also a great time meeting and interacting Japanese residents in the area.

The wheel, placed on the outer wall of the Don Quijote store in the popular shopping area, is decorated with a giant image of Ebisu, the god of business prosperity.
The store chain hopes the Ferris wheel will be a new tourist attraction in the area, which has become popular among foreign visitors in recent years.
Rides last about 15 minutes. The wheel faces a river, and visitors can also observe Japan’s tallest skyscraper, Abeno Harukas, from it’s highest point about 77 meters above the street.

Dotonbori Ebisu Tower Ferris Wheel Resumes Operation| JAPAN Forward
The Dotonbori Ferris Wheel was built into the façade of Don Quijote -- a 24-hour discount mall -- in 2005. But it was shutdown in 2008 because of a mechanical fault.
After receiving years of requests from customers who wished to ride the Dotonbori Wheel again, its owners decided to resume operations this year.
The observatory wheel is 77.4 meters high. It holds 32 gondolas, each of which can accommodate four passengers.
It takes 15 minutes to complete a round.
The newly built waiting area is stocked with traditional Japanese souvenirs -- fitting given Don Quijote is the largest discount chain store in Japan.
It sells a wide variety of tax free merchandise, from green tea matcha KitKats to Hello Kitty face masks.
