Door County Day One
So my family has a summer house in Door County Wisconsin that is right on Lake Michigan. My grandma on my mom's side (my only American grandparent) has had this house in her family since the early 1900's and it's really nostalgic for me to be able to come up here again. It's my grandma's 80th birthday so let's celebrate! I am ashamed to say that I have been having too much fun and am therefore very behind on my editing. But the good news is that I will be posting new videos for at least the next three days. Thanks of your patience kids! Much love!

Renard's Cheese Store & Deli Named Door County Industry of the Year
Renard's Cheese Store & Deli ( is the winner of the Door County Industry of the Year Award. The annual award recognizes a local construction, service or manufacturing business that has made a substantial impact on the community and enjoyed significant accomplishments during the past year.
Renard's Cheese is a family owned and operated business that is now on its third generation of cheesemakers. Over the past 51 years, Renard's Cheese has become an iconic Door County business, and is on a trajectory to successfully build upon that status for many years to come. Though many things have changed throughout the years, their commitment to producing quality, gourmet, and handcrafted cheeses has never wavered.
This precise art has awarded Renard's not only a reputation of great standards but also the ribbons to match. Their award winning Two-Year Aged White Cheddar is one of their best selling cheeses. Over the past several years, they have expanded their product line to include flavor infused cheeses such as; Morel & Leek Jack, Cranberry Jalapeno Monterey Jack, and over 50 other specialty cheeses. One of their newest creations is the Door County Untouchable Cheddar, where they soak their Two-Year White Cheddar in Simon Creek Winery's Untouchable Red Wine for three days.
Today, Ann and Chris Renard are still focused on a proactive approach to running Renard's Cheese Store & Deli, which has been evident in the expansion of their product offerings, their increased national distribution, new sales routes throughout the state and the new retail location that was built this past year. The addition of their 1900 square foot retail store has allowed them to increase their cheese offerings and bring in more local products, as well as add a new deli for their customers to enjoy.
Renard's Cheese Store & Deli of Sturgeon Bay has been averaging 40% growth over the past couple years, which has allowed for many new and exciting additions to the company. In 2010, Renard's Cheese had six employees; today they have 29 year-round employees. Ten of these employees were added this past fall to accommodate the expansion of the new facility as well as production needs. In the months following the grand opening of the new retail store their business increased a remarkable 70%.
Both Ann and Chris are active in the community, and they provide support through the business as well. Since 2003, they have conducted the Carrie Ann Renard Memorial Golf Outing. Carrie Ann Renard was Chris' sister, who was very active in Southern Door School Sports. In honor of her memory this annual fundraiser is held every July and all the proceeds are given to the Southern Door School Booster Club. Renard's Cheese is also participating in Reading Rewards, which is designed to promote reading as well as healthy snacking. Ann and Chris are also very passionate about the services that are provided by Door CANcer, which offers help to local cancer patients.
7th Annual Roofing of the Goats Parade | 4th Annual Goat Fest
Door County's 7th Annual Roofing of the Goats Parade is scheduled for Saturday, June 8th on Hwy 42 in downtown Sister Bay. Comprised of skittish, short-attention-span, but usually lovable goats from Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant, Door County Creamery and local goat farmers, Goat Parade has become, after an ignominious beginning in 2013, a welcome start to the new tourism season.
The Parade will start at Mill Rd. and State Highway 42, just down the road from Door County Creamery, and then move further south 1/4 mile to Al Johnson's, where some of the goats will be led up to the restaurant's green sod roof (hence the parade name, Roofing of the Goats). Highway 42 is closed to all motorized traffic both immediately before and during the parade, from approximately 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
For various reasons, goats have proliferated in Door County in recent years, but it all started with Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant, which, after a birthday prank between Wink Larson and Al Johnson, famously started putting goats on its renowned green sod roof in 1973. Door County Creamery now has over 100 milk-producing goats on its Sister Bay dairy farm, while Al Johnson's keeps several dozen goats on a Sister Bay farm, where its goat barn features a live feed of soothing Wisconsin Public Radio broadcasts.
Goat drop stickers will be available at Hwy 42 roadside booths throughout Sister Bay for $10 each. If a goat poops on your sticker during the parade, you could win one of several prizes. The prize drawing will occur immediately after the parade, at Stabbur Scandinavian Beer Garden.
This year's Goat Parade will be followed by Al Johnson's 4th Annual Goat Fest, at Stabbur Beer Garden, located next door to the restaurant at 10698 N. Bay Shore Drive. Goat Fest starts at 12 noon and will feature live music, fun kids' games, various beverages, special food dishes and a Swedish Pancake-Eating Contest.
At the end of the parade, Al Johnson's goats are led up onto the business's green sod roof, inaugurating yet another season of goat-watching in northern Door County. Al's goats can then be viewed all season on the online streaming-video Goat Cam: aljohnsons.com/goat-cam.
