New Wreck Dive Site in Sabah - Downbelow Sinks KM Kuraman
#KMKuraman's sinking ceremony at #TunkuAbdulRahmanMarinePark - an amazing contribution from #KePKAS #SabahParks #MARITIM to the #UnderwaterWaterWorld #ScubaDiving in the park! Downbelow Marine & Wildlife Adventures' #DownbelowWreckTeam is honoured to be a part of #MakingHistory in this new #WreckDiveSite. Our role was to suitably prepare the ship for sinking at the same time ensure she will be an #awesome wreck dive.
We towed her from Sepangar Navy Port to the sinking site which was designated by the Sabah Parks committee. We laid her to rest on the ocean floor and the whole operation was a complete success with the ship sinking upright as planned and executed by our very own PADI Course Director Richard Swann & his team. We were very honoured to be chosen for the project.
#KMKuraman (Sipadan Class) Ex-KD Renchong (PC Class) is a 52 year old ship that has contributed to the country for many years, and now it rests in this beautiful park where it will house diverse and vibrant #MarineFloraAndFauna! Owned by #MARITIM and previously owned by #NavyMalaysia, #ScubaDivers now can look forward to #WreckDiving in #TARP!

Gaya Island Beach Cleanup + Coral Planting | BENTARAKATA + ORKED MAG
Our ocean and marine life are dying, and all for something we recklessly use and dispose of daily for the sake of convenience--plastic trash.
---
Plastics are the most common form of marine debris and they come from various land- and ocean-based sources. Cigarette butts, disposable diapers, food wrappers, beverage bottles, straws, single-use food cutlery, and food containers, etc. are only a few of many man-made materials that can be found polluting our waters and beaches.
Once in the water, plastic debris never fully biodegrade and can potentially harm marine life and contribute to environmental degradation.
Our friends at Downbelow Marine & Wildlife Adventures, together with Rip Curl, organized a big beach cleanup and coral planting fundraising day out at Gaya Island to raise awareness, educate and encourage action towards the global problem of marine debris, and the importance of preserving our coral reefs. 100% of the proceeds were channeled to the Project AWARE Foundation and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
Through focused and concerted efforts, we were able to collect boatloads of litter from Gaya Island and the surrounding mangrove areas.
Beach cleanups are a great way to get involved in protecting our marine environment (and meet new friends along the way!). But don’t wait for a beach cleanup before you take action! Individual efforts and little things like saying “No, thanks!” to disposable plastic materials can help make a big difference in your waste output too.

Divemaster Intern Does Emergency First Responsder Course in Sabah, Borneo
PADI Instructor Roy is teaching Divemaster Intern Nigel the Emergency First Response course today at our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre on Gaya island in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo.
It's important for Divemasters to be able to take care of their divers's safety above and below the surface and the EFR is the first step towards that.
