From Dallas to Colorado.mp4
Our summer trip to Colorado - Part 1.
This video shows scenes from the drive, from Dallas to our base camp just 1/2 mile downstream from the Rio Grande Reservoir near Creede.
Video of Timber Creek Campground - DeOrr J. Kunz disappearance 7/10/15
Video of Timber Creek Campground, near Leadore, Idaho, taken in Sept. 2016. DeOrr J. Kunz Jr., 2 ½, was reported missing from this campground on July 10, 2015. (see below)
The video starts with a panoramic view of the area as I am standing near the camping spot of his parents, Jessica and Vernal, Robert Walton (Jessica's grandfather), and Isaac Reinwand (grandfather’s friend). Jessica and Vernal said they arrived back from the store/gas in Leadore shortly after 1PM. Not long after, Walton told Isaac to show the parents where they could catch fish in the creek.
Isaac led Jessica and Vernal to the large tree in the video with all the dead branches. This is where they went down the hill to fish from the island below. NOTE: the water runs heavier in the summer. Little DeOrr stayed with Walton and was walking back to him as the parents and Isaac walked towards the large tree.
The area where Walton said he last saw DeOrr playing in the dirt is shown during the walk to the tree, where I pan back to the picnic table. Walton may have fallen asleep while he watched DeOrr.
Jessica reports she turned back to look at little DeOrr a few times to make sure he was walking towards Grandpa as the three adults moved closer to the large tree. Jessica reports she last saw DeOrr near the rock, grandpa was close by sitting in a camp chair.
Views down to the creek and back towards the campground are shown. Jessica reports her last view of little DeOrr was similar to the 1:48 mark. The parents continued to follow Isaac down the bank.
Jessica fished, after a bit Vernal said he saw minnows and wanted to retrieve little DeOrr to look at them. He went up the bank to the campground and discovered DeOrr missing. All four adults reported seeing little DeOrr in the campground area until approx. 1:30PM (plus or minus 15 minutes in my estimate) when he disappeared. (We did see several minnows in Sept. 2016, downstream from this area.)
Jessica reports looking for DeOrr on foot in the immediate area and creek. Walton looked in the immediate area. Reportedly, Jessica and Walton were near each other when Jessica dialed 911.
Vernal looked in the immediate area, then drove his truck over the creek (there is a split off before the campground, allowing one to follow a road over the creek and towards the reservoir). He returned not long after (per Jessica) and they decided to call 911. Isaac, Grandpa and Jessica were on foot. Vernal said he drove down the road to ensure a better 911 signal. Walton, Jessica, and Vernal called 911. Walton’s call was dialed but the connection wasn't completed. Vernal returned after calling. From then on, per Jessica, no vehicles moved from the campsite until search and rescue arrived at approx. 4PM. DeOrr’s blanket was used for the scent dogs, but was not taken into evidence. The parents said they were told it had been handled too much for a good scent.
Isaac reports he went to the reservoir to search for DeOrr. To do this involves crossing the creek, hiking up the opposite hill, and continuing walking to the reservoir.
Much speculation has occurred since July 10, 2015, but one thing remains - Little Deorr Jay Kunz Jr. is still missing.

19th Street Bridge
19th Street Bridge is a two-span through Pratt truss road bridge in Denver, Colorado, over the South Platte River, now used for pedestrians. It was built in 1888 to replace a wooden structure and carried automobile traffic until 1986. The bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
A number of bridges were built across the South Platte River beginning in 1859, and by 1875, there was interest in a bridge to span the river at the 19th Street location. In 1876, a wooden bridge was constructed at the site. This previous bridge was closed to traffic in 1884 after it was damaged in a flood. Because of repeated floods destroying numerous wooden bridges, the city of Denver sought to replace them with metal structures. By 1887, because of their ready availability and low expense, the city began building metal bridges to replace the wooden spans. On August 26, 1887, the Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Works was contracted to build the 19th Street Bridge. The structure cost $25,000, including $8,250 for 120 feet of iron. Construction on the new span was complete in 1888.
Around 1898, a plan surfaced to rebuild the bridge as a viaduct so that it would not cross only the river, but also the rail switching yard. However, the plan was defeated in June 1904. The bridge has remained mostly unmodified since construction. Timber decking was replaced with corrugated steel following a 1961 flood and some bent hinges were replaced as a result of a 1965 flood. The 19th Street Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 4, 1985.
Because of repeated wear and deterioration caused by salt for melting ice, the bridge was restricted to pedestrians and bicycles beginning on December 16, 1986. Following the closure, a new vehicular bridge was planned downstream, tentatively referred to as the 'Nineteen and A-Half Street Bridge'; it was built in 1992.
Aside from serving as a pedestrian bridge, the structure has hosted the annual 'Gala on the Bridge', a fundraiser for The Greenway Foundation. It began in 2011, and was described in The Denver Post as the 'first time the bridge has been used for anything other than a way for people to cross the South Platte River'.
In the state of Colorado, the 19th Street Bridge is the oldest surviving wrought iron bridge, oldest vehicular bridge at its original location, and oldest vehicular bridge still in public use.
The bridge's two spans have a through Pratt truss design, each with five panels. The structure is about 200 feet long with a roadway about 22.5 feet wide. The roadbed is concrete on corrugated metal, replacing the original wood decking. The structural members are made of wrought iron and are pin-connected. The top chords are horizontal, and the upper struts are 'unusually deep' I-beams. Sidewalks, decorated with iron newels and latticework, cantilever off both sides of the bridge. The south sidewalk permits pedestrians, while the north one has no deck and carries utility lines. The bridge is supported by ashlar piers of solid stone. The latticed portals feature decorative cast iron crests and finials, and a plaque with the builder's inscription. The bridge is described by History Colorado as one of the most ornamental in Colorado.

Working for wilderness on the Idaho-Montana state line
Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness works in an area straddling the Idaho-Montana state line of the Cabinet Purcell Mountain Corridor, protecting and restoring 88,000 acres here.
Covering more than 43,750 square miles (113,312 km2) and representing approximately nine per cent of the entire Yellowstone to Yukon region the Cabinet Purcell Mountain Corridor extends from Golden, British Columbia, south to Missoula, Montana, and encompasses the Purcell, Cabinet, Selkirk and Bitterroot mountain ranges. It includes several wet-belt forests and the headwaters of many important salmon and trout rivers, which supply drinking and irrigation water for millions of people downstream. This is one of only two remaining areas in the Yellowstone to Yukon region where grizzly bears can move back and forth between Canada and the U.S.

Cataract Canyon - Big White Water Experience
LEARN ABOUT CATARACT CANYON TRIPS:
2 DAY -
4 Day -
Whether you are a seasoned river runner or a beginner, at some point in time you will hear about Cataract Canyon on the Colorado River, just downstream from Moab, Utah.Most people in the world have heard about the Grand Canyon, and its truly spectacular for many reasons. What fewer people know about is Cataract Canyon located several hundred miles upstream, yet also on the Colorado River. Cataract Canyon grows some very big whitewater as winter snows in the upper Colorado Basin melt, and rapids in this canyon corridor found in Canyonlands National Park can rival that which is found in the Grand Canyon.
We offer both 2 day and 4 day expeditions in Cataract Canyon.
Whitewater Rafting Ultimo

Continuing downstream, plunging into the awesome class IV rapids of the Lower Canyon, including Ejector, Double Knife, Deep Hell, and Terminator.

Ep. 109: Island Park | Idaho RV travel camping
The area of southeastern Idaho known as Island Park is mostly a large crater, or caldera, named the Henry's Fork Caldera that was created by the same volcanic hotspot that created the later and much larger Yellowstone Caldera nearby. For the July 4th Independence Day holiday we find a boondocking camp right on the water at Island Park Reservoir for a little kayaking and camping with friends, while visiting Mesa Falls and Harriman State Park in this little town with a very unique history, just 25 minutes from Yellowstone National Park.

Berners Bay Cabin Cleanup
Alaskan Brewing Co. Communications Manager Andy Kline, Aaron Gerow of Trail Mix, Inc., and Patrick Shannon of the National Forest Foundation, talk about cleaning up the Berners Bay cabin.
American Falls Dam Part 2, American Falls Idaho
The existing dam is the second structure to be called the American Falls Dam. Core samples taken in the early 1960s of the concrete of the original structure revealed deterioration resulting in impaired durability and strength caused by a chemical reaction between components of the concrete. The solution was to replace the original dam with a second dam built downstream in 1978 Falls Idaho train dam bridge. The American Falls Dam is a concrete gravity-type dam located near the town of American Falls, Idaho, on river mile 714.7 of the Snake River. The dam and reservoir are a part of the Minidoka Project on the Snake River Plain and are used primarily for flood control, irrigation, and recreation. When the original dam was built by the Bureau of Reclamation, the residents of American Falls were forced to relocate three-quarters of their town to make room for the reservoir.
Ep. 95: Green River Kayak Camping | Utah kayaking Canyonlands National Park
A voyage down the final 100 miles of the Green River by kayak, canoe or raft, through the Labyrinth Canyon and Stillwater Canyon into Utah's Canyonlands National Park, is an epic bucket list camping trip. It's also the only way to see this part of Canyonlands. We spend eight days on the river, encountering other river travelers from four other states and two other countries along the way. We find remnants of ancient people dating from 200 to 1,200 years old, including the Outlaw Cabin and Anasazi cliff dwellings. We descend through numerous layers of the earth’s crust, passing through two seasons. Throughout it all, though, the river is our constant, yet moody companion; at times our lover and best friend, and at other times our worst enemy, the river is alive -- a living, breathing creature that dominates our lives for days on end.
FOR MORE INFORMATION
Separate river permits are required from the BLM for Labyrinth Canyon, and from Canyonlands National Park for Stillwater Canyon. The Labyrinth Canyon permit requires little more than filling out a form and carrying the required gear, while the permit for Stillwater Canyon requires a bit more arduous and bureaucratic process and while there’s no lottery involved, permits are limited by the number of people who can be shuttled by outfitters from The Confluence or Spanish Bottom. Ruby Ranch’s owners also charge a fee for those who choose to launch their boats there, although there are alternative put-ins at Crystal Geyser and in the town of Green River.
Applications and more information may be found at:
* BLM Labyrinth Canyon
* Canyonlands National Park river permits
Two outfitters are permitted to provide shuttle services from Spanish Bottom to Moab and also provide guided expeditions:
* Tag-A-Long Expeditions
* Tex’s Riverways
