Jesus, So Lowly by Harold Friedell
Sung by DPC Adult Choir in the sanctuary at Downtown Presbyterian Church.
Jesus, so lowly, Child of the earth: Christen me wholly, bring me new birth.
Jesus, so lonely, weary and sad; teach me that only love maketh glad.
Jesus, so broken, silent and pale; be this the token love will not fail.
Jesus, victorious, mighty and free; teach me how glorious death is to be.
Text by Edith Williams

Discipleship and Politics
By Scott Sauls, Pastor of Christ Presbyterian Church, Nashville, Tennessee
We’re nearing the end of an “inflammatory” political season. It might be a good time, then — and a refreshing reminder — to reflect on the truth that among Jesus’ original disciples, two were political opponents: Simon the Zealot, who believed government should remain hands-off. And Matthew, the government-employed tax collector.
It is interesting, Scott Sauls notes, that of the four Gospel writers only one — Matthew — points this out. Perhaps he’s directing readers to another King, and a greater kingdom.
Episode 3 OOPARTS : Hidden Secrets of Nashville Tennessee
In the furthest depths of antiquity, lie hidden truths... Secrets, cloaked in riddle, skillfully carved above and beneath the sands of time... The clues to uncover these forbidden truths are all around us... If we would only open our minds to see...
Although constructed two centuries apart, Nashville Tennessee has two reproductions of mythic temples, - The Parthenon and Mount Meru. The symbolism does not end with mythic temples and figures. Many places in Tennessee share names with those of antiquity: Memphis, Alexandria, Athens, Carthage, Sparta, Troy, Bethlehem, Lebanon, and others. A statue of Hermes soars above the Hermitage Hotel. The Downtown Presbyterian Church, constructed in 1848 by William Strickland, built in the Egyptian Revival style. The sanctuary resembles the interior of an Egyptian pyramid and an obelisk stands in front of the grand entrance. Most of these structures were built on ancient burial grounds and sacred sites. The question is does it have a greater meaning?
The greatest thing in life is that there are so many possibilities. We will keep searching for the truth, and uncover each mystery, one question at a time. Visit us at hiddenarchaeology.com for the latest.

Franklin Church Announces Support of Gay Marriage, Equality
FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- A Franklin Church is getting a lot of attentionand has lost some financial supportfor supporting gay marriage and church membership equality.
During a Sunday service on January 11, GracePoint Evangelical Church Pastor Stan Mitchell said gay members should also be allowed to have children or be church leaders.
We have accrued many new brothers and sisters, Mitchell said in January 11th's sermon. You are here today because you are simply grateful enough to find a place like ours willing to engage in vital conversations in spite of their difficulty.
The sermon can be viewed here. He begins to speak about gay issues around 44:40.
To have that level of acceptance from your church, it just really can be life transforming and can really reaffirm your faith, Chris Sanders said, Executive Director of Tennessee Equality Project.
In GracePoint's attempt to be inclusive, it has lost around $50,000 in donations last January.
Family Action Council of Tennessee President David Fowler says though GracePoint supports gay marriage, gay marriage still isn't legally recognized in the volunteer state.
If the constitution is going to require a definition of marriage the court owes it to us to define what marriage is, Fowler said.
Not only is it a legal issue, but Fowler says it's in direct conflict with certain Christian denominations.
Nobody likes to be told that what they're doing is wrong or bad, Fowler said. Theologically I don't know how they explain that if we can disregard the [biblical] scriptures that talk about male and female that we should suddenly regard the scriptures that talk about [marriage of only] two.
