Stone Harbor Beach Renewal
A series of storms reduced the size of many beaches along the east cost of the United States prior to and during 2009. Here, the city of Stone Harbor, New Jersey, has contracted a dredging company to renew their beaches. A floating dredge a short distance offshore sucks sand from the bottom and pumps it into a pipeline where it is discharged on shore. Bulldozers and an excavator move the newly deposited sand around to suit the needs of the operation. A cage device used to strain larger objects from the flow needs periodic cleaning.

We had about two feet, two and a half feet of water they came in from the bay. No power yet we're into day two of no power, no heat but it could be worse. As long as nobody died, you can always buy more stuff, life was the most important part of it, we'll just rebuild, do it again.

STORYLINE:
New Jersey residents are making the best of the major flooding that has shut down roadways and damaged homes following the weekend-long snowstorm.
High winds and rising tides created Hurricane Sandy-like impacts on homes along the New Jersey shoreline.
Utility companies in the area are reporting that more than 20,000 customers are without electricity one day after the powerful winter storm packing high wind and snow battered the state.
Residents were seen sorting through damaged homes and even kayaking through the flooded streets as New Jersey Governor Chris Christie decaled a state of emergency for the weekend.
