Grand Canyon #5: Historic Route 66 from Williams to Flagstaff on Interstate 40 / Route 66 2016-06-01
This short drive from Williams, Arizona, is the last leg on a day's drive from Flagstaff to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park and back to Flagstaff on a different highway from the one used getting to Flagstaff in the morning.
Like Flagstaff, Williams is a Grand canyon day-drive base, one with higher-priced hotels than Flagstaff, and is more immersed in recreated Route 66 tourist nostalgia.
A previous video went through Williams' westbound downtown one-way street to the west side of town. This video begins from that location. It heads east through the eastbound one-way street (the busier of the two one-way streets) through downtown's quaint Route 66 facade , before leaving Williams to get on Interstate 40 eastbound back to Flagstaff to end Day 1 to the South Rim of grand Canyon National Park.

Historic Route 66 - Ash Fork - Arizona | Drive America's Highways ????
???? Drive America's Highways for 2 miles west along Historic Route 66 in Ash Fork, Arizona ????
Ash Fork is close to Kaibab National Forest and the Grand Canyon -- approximately an hour's drive away using major roads. 15 miles to the north of Ash Fork is Beale Road, which was being the first federally funded highway. Also, the longest original, uninterrupted stretch of Route 66 still in existence can be found between Ash Fork and Seligman. (see our video at
Part of what was once Route 66 still runs directly through Ash Fork, with Park Avenue running east and Lewis Avenue running west. Historic buildings, including a false front structure and old railroad company houses can be seen along these streets. The majority of the town's businesses, including the Oasis Lounge and the Ranch House Cafe, can be found along Park Avenue.
Certain areas of the town were selected to be used as sets in the filming of 1992's Universal Soldier, supposedly due to the extremely low purchase price and poor condition of several buildings, including an old motel, which were blown up for cinematic effect.
