Madeira in 360 by Joe
Recently, Kathy, put together a slide show video of images she took during our recent trip to the Portuguese island of Madeira. This video offers my perspective on the places visited from a 360 photography perspective.
First thing to do was head up onto the mountain via cable car. Things were pretty busy because there was a cruise ship in port but the weather was to nice to postpone.
The oriental garden is called the “Jardim Tropical Garden and Monte Palace”. The garden was located way up on the mountain and a short walk from a cable car you can use to get to it. We didn’t expect the oriental nature of the garden but it was VERY impressive none the less.
We came part of the way down the mountain by riding a wicker toboggan. This is something unique to Madeira and is not to be missed.
Flower arrangements being played out in the street was for the “Festa Do Corpo De Deus”. We happened upon this purely by chance. Flowers are laid out along roads completely surrounding a church in Funchal. I’m talking at least a block away from the church all the way around. It was VERY impressive and completely GONE two days later when we were in the area!
We wandered over to the fish market for a peek at the black ugly fish, called “Scabbard”. The fish is unique to Madeira. It’s a pretty ugly thing that tastes better than it looks. I’m not a seafood person but Kathy gave it a try and liked it.
We went off on a couple all day Jeep Safaris. These were the way to get out and see the countryside. The ride was a butt tightening experience from time to time.
These A-Frame structures are a throwback to the island’s original settlers. They came from cold and snowy areas in northern Europe and found conditions were miler in Madeira.
We made several photo stops along the way. Some were “informal” and others were more “formal” with walls and railings.
At one point, we ended up above the clouds for an awesome experience.
We spent a little time at Miradouro Do Cabo Girao which is one of these glass floored scenic overlooks. Lots of people were there and a few were terrified about walking around there.
There were lots of lunch and dinner choices in Funchal. We especially enjoyed having lunch in a sidewalk cafe in Old Funchal
All videos were captured with an Insta360 ONE camera and edited in Insta360 app.
