Reformer or rebel? SUSTech revisited, a Shenzhen-based university shrouded with controversy.
Views on South University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) have been divided on whether to consider it a rebel or a contributor to the Chinese educational system. The Shenzhen-based university operates differently than other colleges, with English as the official language on campus and the ability of the administration to process students’ applications individually. The university made headlines when five years ago, 45 high school students across China rejected the National College Entrance Examination, showing support to the then-newly-built SUSTech. What has the university done during the past years? What goals has it met? CCTVNEWS revisited SUSTech to find out about the journey of the university that has been surrounded with controversy.

Visiting Tailor Qing in Guilin, Guangxi, China
While in Guilin this summer, I made sure to pay a visit to my old friend, Tailor Qing. And though in this video I extoll his friendliness, I do recommend you let him know you're coming in advance (as I did) if you really expect him to have the time to measure you and discuss what kind of clothing you want.
Mr. Qing started his business in his early twenties with his wife working alongside. It took about six years before they started making a profit. Now in his late forties, Mr. Qing says he has about 500 regular customers and is looking forward to continuing his trade albeit on a more relaxed schedule.
Thanks for watching!
