Two UK women wait to hear decision on drugs charges
Two women from the United Kingdom arrested in Peru on suspicion of drug-trafficking appeared before the country's district attorney on Tuesday.
Authorities are determining whether they will face criminal charges.
Michaella McCollum Connolly and Melissa Reid were arrested at Lima's airport on 6 August on suspicion of trying to smuggle 24 pounds (11 kilos) of cocaine out of the country.
The UK residents, who are both 20, were about to board a flight for Madrid.
Reid is from Scotland, and Irish-born McCollum Connolly is from Northern Ireland.
They were among 11 foreigners detained on drug-smuggling charges and are currently being held at an anti-narcotics police lock-up in Lima.
In Peru, investigations typically take 15 days before a decision is made about whether to file charges.
If charged, McCollum Connolly and Reid would be transferred to the Santa Monica women's prison where foreigners are held.
Peru's penal authority says 1,648 foreigners are currently in its prisons on drug-trafficking charges.

Anthony Coughlan spoke on the origins of the civil right movement in Britain through the Connolly Association and its early development in Ireland. Anthony Coughlan is an Associate Professor Emeritus in Social Policy, TCD, who was present at the foundation of the NICRA in 1967 and the first Northern Ireland Civil Rights marches, Coalisland-Dungannon in August 1968 and Duke Street, Derry, on 5 October 1968
Kevin McCorry spoke on the strategies and tactics of the civil rights movement as it developed. Kevin McCorry is a former full time organiser with NICRA. Former member of Republican Clubs.
Tommy McKearney spoke on how republicans viewed the civil rights movement and why they believed armed resistance was the way forward at that time. Tommy McKearney is a former IRA Volunteer. Hunger striker and currently chair of The Peadar O'Donnell Forum
