ऐतिहासिक दुर्गाडी किल्ला | Durgadi fort | Kalyan
The fort is built on a small hill near the creek, near the present day Mumbai-Agra road. The main entrance has been destroyed, but the bastions can still be seen. This is Ganesh Darwaja and there is a Ganesh Idol here. There is a temple of Goddess Durga in the fort which was revived by Ramji Mahadev Bivalkar, the Subhedar of Kalyan during the Peshwa rule. There are two more bastions and some fort remnants to the side of the creek.
Ways To Reach :
The fort is located in Kalyan west, near the Kalyan creek and the Mumbai-Agra road. We can get a bus or rickshaw near Kalyan railway station and reach the fort in 15 minutes.

कल्याण शहर उल्हास नदी, खाडी किनारी वसलेले आहे. सातवाहनांच्या राजवटीमध्ये कल्याण बंद खूप प्रसिद्ध होते. मध्यपूर्व देशातील तसेच रोम पर्यंत चालणार्या व्यापाराचे कल्याण हे केंद्र होते. कल्याण बंदरामध्ये येणारा व्यापारी माल येथून नाणेघाटमार्गे जुन्नर तसेच प्रतिष्ठाण (पैठण) या राजधानीकडे रवाना होत असे. बोर घाटाजवळ उगम पावणारी उल्हास नदी वसईजवळ समुद्राला मिळते. उल्हास नदीला कसारा घाटाजवळ उगम पावणारी भातसाई नदी तसेच माळशेज घाटाकडून वाहत येणारी काळ नदी येवून मिळते. त्यामुळे खाडीला पाणी भरपूर असते.
हा भाग निजामशाही (अहमदनगर) च्या अस्तानंतर आदिलशाही (विजापूर)च्या ताब्यात आला. इ.स. १६३६ नंतर आदिलशाहीच्या ताब्यात असलेल्या या प्रदेशाचा ताबा छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी २४ ऑक्टोबर इ.स.१६५७ मध्ये घेतला. त्यावेळी कल्याण बरोबर भिवंडीही ताब्यात आणली.
कल्याण सारखे महत्त्वाचे बंदर ताब्यात आल्याबरोबर छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी येथे किल्ला बांधण्याचा आदेश दिला. आबाजी महादेवांना येथे किल्ला बांधण्यासाठी पाया खण्डत असताना या पायामध्ये अमाप द्रव्य सापडले. दुर्ग बांधत असतानाच द्रव्य मिळाही ही दुर्गेचीच कृपादृष्टी समजून किल्ल्याचे नाव दुर्गाडी ठेवण्यात आले.
दुर्गाडी किल्ल्याच्या आश्रयानेच शिवाजी महाराजांनी आपले आरमार उभारण्यासाठी येथे गोदी निर्माण केली. या गोदीतून लढाऊ जहाजांची निर्मिती केली. शिवरायानी त्या करीता पोर्तुगीझांचे सहाय्य घेतले. निर्माण झालेल्या आरमाराने पुढे मुंबईच्या इंग्रजांना, वसईच्या पोर्तुगिजांना तसेच जंजिर्याच्या सिद्धीला दहशत बसविली. छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी कल्याणच्या दुर्गाडी किल्ल्याच्या आश्रयाने भारतीय आरमाराचा पाया घातला.

Durgadi is a derived from union of two Marathi words Durga (A Hindu Goddess) and Gaad (Which means 'Fort' in Marathi language). Durgadi Fort is Kalyan city's most adored historical monument, a sacred worshiping place and even a recreation spot for many Kalyankars. Durgadi Fort also called as Durgadi Killa was constructed during Shivaji's Era in honour of hindu deity Mata Durga.

Kalyan was known as international monkey. This city has walls, 11 bastions and many doors for protection. Shivaji Maharaj built a Durgadi fort on the side of this Bhuoka fort of Kalyan and laid the foundation for the Maratha Aramara.
History:On October 24, 1654, Shivaji Maharaj conquered Kalyan and Bhiwandi by the Adilashah. Later, Shivaji Maharaj took the fort to build a fort along the Bhukotkas near Kalyan. We found huge wealth in digging the foundation of the fort. This is the name of this fort named Durgadi as the grace of Goddess Durga. With the fort, Shivrajya started the construction of the warships by building a rope dock. For this, there were 340 Portuguese artisans.
C. In 1682 Mughal Sardar Hasan Ali Khan won Kalyan, but Sambhaji Raje attacked and took Kalyan back. Then in 1689 the Mughals won back welfare. In the year 1728, the Portuguese attacked Durgadi Fort .But Peshwas' caste Shankarji Keshav and his associates successfully returned.
Places to see:Durgadi Fort is on the small hillock of Kalyan Bay. The entrance of the fort is destroyed, but the adjacent towers are under guard. The name of this gate is Ganesh Darwaja and there is an idol of Ganapati idol. There is a temple of Goddess Durgadevi in the fort. The welfare reformer Ramji Mahadev Biwalkar of the erstwhile Peshwa era. In addition to this, there are two big fractal bastions and a few walls beside the creek.
Distance to reach:By coming down to the Kalyan station or by a private vehicle, it can be reached in the fort for 10-15 minutes

Durgadi Fort lies to the west of Kalyan city, today in a renovated condition. Kalyan is the busiest junction as well a key location from ancient times. This was an important international harbour developed during the Satvaahan era. The city was well fortified and it is said it had 11 bastions and multiple entrances. The fort was built by Shivaji Maharaj and marks the initiation of Maratha Navy.
Current Condition: Durgadi fort is now completely renovated & painted thus the fort has lost it's rawness. The fort is strategically built near the ulhas river which highlight the fact that ulhas river was used to be a very important river for the harbour.

The fort is located in Kalyan west, near the Kalyan creek and the Mumbai-Agra road.
How To Reach :
KDMC buses frequently ply between Durgadi Chowk & Kalyan Station West. Shared & private auto from Kalyan West can also drop you at Durgadi Chowk/or near by Lal Chowk.

The Government of Maharashtra accepts 19 February 1630 as his birthdate; other suggested dates include 6 April 1627 or other dates near this day.Per legend, his mother named him Shivaji in honour of the goddess Shivai, to whom she had prayed for a healthy child.
Shivaji's father Shahaji Bhonsle was Maratha general who served the Deccan Sultanates.His mother was Jijabai, the daughter of Lakhujirao Jadhav of Sindkhed. At the time of Shivaji's birth, the power in Deccan was shared by three Islamic sultanates: Bijapur, Ahmednagar, and Golconda. Shahaji often changed his loyalty between the Nizamshahi of Ahmadnagar, the Adilshah of Bijapur and the Mughals, but always kept his jagir (fiefdom) at Pune and his small army with him.
