Amtrak operates a daily train between Charlotte and New York City (the Carolinian) which stops in downtown Durham. The State of North Carolina, in cooperation with Amtrak, operates three additional daily trains between Raleigh and Charlotte which also stop in Durham. A new Amtrak station was built in 2011 in a former tobacco warehouse. Some of the downtown streets cross the tracks at grade level, while other intersections have grade separation. One downtown railroad underpass has attracted national media coverage, because it provides only 11 feet-8 inches of clearance, and has damaged the roofs of many trucks. ~Wikipedia

Dear Diary of a Mad Black Woman: Entry 23 Part 2 (The Real Monsters in Prisons)
Thank you for watching Dear Diary of a Mad Black Woman. In this entry, which is part 2 of entry 23, I finish reviewing my research paper whose thesis was: the aim of mass criminalization in the United States is not safety but the maintenance of social order, racism and capitalism. Simply looking into our criminal punishment system reveals this truth, the most marginalized are also the most criminalized. This quite literally means that while the state protects the humanity, the ways of living, the agency, and the interests, of white people, it unleashes violence in a variety of ways on black communities. Is that safety? It is not, it is only the acceptance of violence sinisterly disguised as safety. This means that the real monsters aren’t just in prison. This means that monsters exist because we do, that there is a monster inside each of us. This means we are the monsters and will continue to be as long as we dispose of “bad” people.

Empire State Building:
The Empire State Building is a 102-story Art Deco skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It was designed by Shreve, Lamb & Harmon and completed in 1931. The building has a roof height of 1,250 feet (380 m) and stands a total of 1,454 feet (443.2 m) tall, including its antenna. Its name is derived from Empire State, the nickname of New York, which is of unknown origin. The Empire State Building stood as the world's tallest building for nearly 40 years until the completion of the World Trade Center's North Tower in Lower Manhattan in late-1970. Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, it was again the tallest building in New York City until the new One World Trade Center surpassed it while under construction in April 2012. As of 2019, the building is the seventh-tallest building in New York City, the sixth-tallest completed skyscraper in the United States and the 45th-tallest in the world. It is also the sixth-tallest freestanding structure in the Americas.

Thank you for tuning into Dear Diary of a Mad Black Woman. In this entry, I review a research paper I wrote last semester about the history of mass criminalization in this country, hence why this entry is longer than usual. I did not even get to half of the paper, so this is only part one in which I introduce my thesis: the aim of mass criminalization in this country, the reason we are incarcerator in chief, is not for all of our “safety’ but, is for the maintenance of social order. Think about it, the most criminalized are the most marginalized. That is not a coincidence. It is literally evidence that the criminal punishment system creates safety for some while unleashing a plethora of harm on others. This is a research paper so it is a lot of information but this lays out the foundation of why I am a prison abolitionist. Violence cannot be eradicated with violence especially when the state sanctions violence on a daily basis.

-Quantum Octane 6'6 medium heavy action rod with an Abu Garcia silver max and 30lb braided line, connected to a 27lb 9 steel leader.
***The rod and reel I was using is a cheap setup, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. I only use it at the river in case something happens, I'd rather break that than an expensive rod/reel.
