Spanning an area of 188,800 square meters, allow a full day to view all of the exhibits. Weekdays you can do so at your leisure and without queuing, with only the occasional school group to compete with.

Dusit Zoo was home to a variety of animals, ranging from monkeys, alligators, kangaroos, and zebras, to penguins, elephants, camels, and giraffes. The Albino barking deer and white Bengal tiger were also rare highlights at the zoo. Play Land offered rides and amusement facilities to entertain children throughout the day, while boat peddling and the sightseeing train provided different modes of exploration. Dusit Zoo also contained an animal hospital, zoo museum, and educational center.

This visit was on a quiet weekday in January. As you can see it is not very crowded which adds to the viewing experience. The reptile area was is really good when it's not crowded. We didn't cover the whole range of animals on this visit.

Near the Grand Palace in the Dusit district of Bangkok is the oldest zoo in Thailand, Dusit Zoo (สวนสัตว์ดุสิต). It has more than one-and-a-half thousand animals drawn from around the world in a well thought out and harmonious setting that makes this zoo and enjoyable visit.
The zoos history in fact goes back the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), a well-travelled and famous monarch who brought many foreign influences and ideas back to Bangkok with him. He was inspired by botanical gardens he saw on overseas trips and was moved to create one within the Suan Dusit garden by filling in the middle of the lake and constructing a man-made hill; giving it the name Kao Din Wa Na. He also brought back a herd of chital deer from a visit to the Java Islands and bred them in the gardens of the Ambra Villa, in the Dusit Palace grounds; these would later be transferred to the Dusit Zoo.
Fast forward to 1938. With Thailand now a constitutional monarchy, the government of the day, headed by the Prime Minister Field Marshal Piboolsongkram requested the land around Suan Dusit to use for a public zoo and recreational area. Prince Arthit Thip-apha, who was a Regent from 1936-42, approved the request on behalf of King Rama VIII, and he also donated the chital deer at Ambra Villa as well as the royal elephants on Sundays. Today the zoo is still indelibly linked with the royalty: as the light fades, from many parts of the zoo the stunning Palace next door, illuminated by hundreds of powerful spotlights, grabs attention in no uncertain terms.
The municipality of Bangkok opened the zoo and operated it until 1954 at which point it was transferred to the state Zoological Park Organization, which also runs Thailands other zoos: Khao Khiao Open Zoo, Chiang Mai Zoo, Songkhla Zoo, and Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo. Dusit Zoo, also known as Khao Din, has more than 1,600 animals drawn from Thailand and around the world and the official website says it attracts more than 2.5 million visitors a year, making it the most popular zoo in Thailand as well as one of the citys biggest attractions.

In August 2018, the Zoological Park Organization announced that the zoo will close and relocate to the new ground in Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani Province.[4] After announcement, the zoo extended the opening hours to visit until 30 September 2018.[5]

Nice place to spend a day! We thought half day should be enough, but at least a full day is needed to have time to see everything. Lots of animals with educational information plates. It is a small but very nice zoo. It is in the city, easy to come and go. Price was reasonable for what you see; 150 baht for foreigners, 100 baht if you have a working permit. A map is provided with details of the location and animals . This would be very helpful for us to identify and move around the Zoo. They had good amount of monkeys , zebra , giraffe , lions , elephants and many unique animals . They had a good amount of tortoise in the aqua region . Penguin was available too. Few shows are available at specific timings for extra cost . There was an African aerobic show, Elephant Show and Seal show when we were there . There are few snack and beverage eateries within the zoo .

The Dusit Zoo, A Tribute to the Oldest, Most Popular Zoo in Thailand
The Dusit Zoo (Thai: สวนสัตว์ดุสิต) popularly known as Khao Din Wana (เขาดินวนา) and Khao Din (เขาดิน) is the oldest, most popular zoo in Thailand. It is a place that every Bangkok parent has at least once taken their child to, a place that is near and dear to every Bangkokian.
This Zoo which has it's roots dating back to King Rama V's period definitely showed signs of its age when I visited and the animals could do with the bigger facilities that are planned to replace this aging zoo in Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani Province. However, it definitely had an old city park feel and a relaxing atmosphere which will never be able to be replicated in the future.
I did my best to capture the essence of this park and keep the raw footage as is so you can get a feel for this zoo whether you are someone who hasn't had the fortune of having seen this special place before ist closed, or you're one who has been here and want to recapture happy moments you spent with your family or special ones. I look forward to the new zoo but the Dusit Zoo will be missed.
