Miami, Florida - Miami International Airport MIA Mover (2019)
The MIA Mover is an automated people mover (APM) system which opened at the Miami International Airport (MIA) in metropolitan Miami, Florida, United States on September 9, 2011. The MIA Mover is designed to quickly transport landside passengers between Miami International Airport's Main Terminal and the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC). The MIA Mover is one of three separate automated people movers operating at the airport. The others are the Skytrain, which operates within Concourse D, and the MIA e Train people mover connecting Concourse E's satellite building.
Miami International Airport, also known as MIA and historically as Wilcox Field, is the primary airport serving the Miami area, with over 1,000 daily flights to 167 domestic and International destinations. The airport is in an unincorporated area in Miami-Dade County, Florida, 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Downtown Miami, in metropolitan Miami, between the cities of Miami, Hialeah, Doral, Miami Springs, the village of Virginia Gardens, and the unincorporated Fontainebleau neighborhood.
It is South Florida's main airport for long-haul international flights and a hub for the Southeastern United States, with passenger and cargo flights to cities throughout the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Western Asia, as well as cargo flights to East Asia. It is the largest gateway between the United States and south to Latin America, and is one of the largest airline hubs in the United States, owing to its proximity to tourist attractions, local economic growth, large local Latin American and European populations, and strategic location to handle connecting traffic between North America, Latin America, and Europe.
In 2018, 45,044,312 passengers traveled through the airport, making the airport the 40th busiest airport in the world in terms of passenger traffic. The airport also ranks as the 12th busiest airport in the United States in terms of passenger traffic, and is also the second-busiest airport in the State of Florida. The airport also handled more international cargo than any other airport in the United States.
The airport is American Airlines' primary gateway to Latin America (Central America, Caribbean Sea / West Indies islands, South America) along with a domestic hub for its regional affiliate American Eagle in the U.S.A. It also serves as a focus city for Avianca, Frontier Airlines, and LATAM, both for passengers and cargo operations. In the past, it has been a hub for Braniff International Airways, Eastern Air Lines, Air Florida, the original National Airlines, the original Pan American World Airways (Pan Am), United Airlines, Iberia Airlines and Fine Air.

Mysterious Nazca Lines in Georgia? Rock Eagle Effigy Mound
Let’s take a look at a mysterious Nazca line hidden in Putnam county, Georgia. This is the aerial view of what’s called the Rock Eagle Mound. The specialty of the Rock Eagle Mound is that the eagle shape is only visible when viewed from the air and if you see it from the ground, it just looks like a random pile of rock. So you cannot help but think who was it built for? Who could see this eagle except extraterrestrials?
But, do archaeologists know if it represents an eagle? No, in fact experts are still debating if it is a bird at all. Remember, plenty of mysterious artifacts of “Bird Men” are found all over Georgia and the United States. There is no shortage of Flying Gods among Native Americans and ancient cultures all over the world. So was this a large scale symbol of a bird man to be seen by aliens? It was definitely not designed to be seen from the ground because it is simply too large for the human eye to recognize the shape and is constructed with a width of 120 feet and is 102 feet long. Also, it is located on an elevated ground and the surrounding area is at a lower level which means that there are no vantage points for humans to see it. Of course, today there is an observation tower that you can use, but this mound was created at least a thousand years ago and some people think it is over 5,000 years old.
And the idea that it was built to be seen by extraterrestrials is the logical conclusion that you can arrive. Believe it or not, experts agree that this is probably why it was built: “To send a message to the GODS”.
Is this Rock Eagle really that mysterious? It is not only a mystery to regular folks, but has also baffled archeologists and historians forever. This is the official signage near the site, set up by the state of Georgia. It clearly states open quote:”It is not known who built the rock Eagle or Rock Hawk effigies, nor exactly when or why. End of quote. So, it is a big mystery because we have don’t have answers to any of the basic questions. By the way, the Rock hawk mentioned is another similar mound, but that’s another video.
Now, the official sign says that there was nothing significant found in the mound, and that’s the reason why it is still a mystery. However, I spoke to some locals and they told me that a Giant skeleton was found here by archaeologists a long time ago. So, I checked with Wikipedia and sure enough it says evidence of a human cremation was found in 1930s but I couldn't find any other information. But surely, if it was just a regular human being and if some bones were found and preserved, archeologists would be able to give us an approximate timeline based on radio carbon dating.
And then here is an unusual marker that says TREAD SOFTLY HERE WHITE MAN FOR LONG ERE YOU CAME STRANGE RACES LIVED, FOUGHT AND LOVED.
ERECTED BY THE GEORGIA SOCIETY COLONIAL DAMES OF THE XVII CENTURY, JUNE 1940.
What are these strange races they are talking about? Now, until 1960s, everybody accepted that the Mound builders were a race of giants. Believe it or not, even many Native Americans agree that there was once a race of Giants who built these strange mounds. I've also shown you some solid evidence of Giants near Etowah mounds which is just 100 miles from here.
Now, Notice that the marker mentions Races: not just one race, but strange races. Why? Another race of bird men who were capable of flight is not only mentioned in folklore, but plenty of artifacts of these bird men have also been found. Did these strange races of Giants and bird men somehow work together? Did Nephilim or Giants create these mounds as a signal to their flying fathers? Remember, this marker was created 75 years ago and is one of the last few remaining signs indicating the history of giant mound builders.
Today, experts viciously refuse the existence of Giants and extraterrestrials. They would much rather spin a theory that this mound was used for ceremonies even though they have no evidence to prove it. But all over the world, theories like these are being challenged by common people. For example, historians have claimed that Machu Picchu was a ceremonial temple for nearly a century and they have now agreed that it is not a temple at all. Why? Because thousands of people have simply pointed out that there is no evidence to say Machu Picchu is a temple. I believe this is also bound to happen for these mounds that are found all over the U.S. As we question this more and more, I believe experts can no longer say that these are ceremonial mounds. So, here is another Nazca figure that exists in the U.S although nobody talks about it. Was it built to be seen by the Gods? If not, what else was it built for?

Miami, Florida - MIA Mover - Miami International Airport - Night HD (2012)
Miami, Florida - MIA Mover
The MIA Mover is an automated people mover (APM) system which opened at the Miami International Airport in metropolitan Miami, Florida, United States on September 9, 2011. The MIA Mover is designed to quickly transport passengers between Miami International Airport's Main Terminal and the Miami Central Station and Rental Car Center, as part of the Miami Intermodal Center.
Costing an estimated $259 million to complete, the 1.27 miles (2.04 km) link travels east from the MIA Station, to Central Boulevard and finally to NW 21st Street, where it curves north into the MIC Station. The concrete guideways are generally elevated an average of 40 feet (12 m) above grade and are supported by concrete piers every 120 feet (37 m). The vehicles used are Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Crystal Movers.
2000 year old Miami Circle, Florida
Let's take a look a 2000 year old stone circle called Miami Circle in Florida. The Miami Circle is marked with these limestone blocks and has a diameter of 38 feet. The actual circle is buried underneath the soil and is made of solid limestone bedrock. You can see that this enormous bedrock has bizarre holes carved all over it. Archaeologists have confirmed that these holes are not naturally created and were made between 500 B.C and 750 A.D. This is a very unusual structure because we have all seen stone circles around the world, but this is one single piece of circular bedrock. There are no such ancient structures found anywhere in the world.
If you ask the locals in Miami, there are two stories: One, it is a modern structure built as a part of a septic tank. You can throw this story out the window, because experts have shown some solid evidence to prove this is an ancient structure. The second story circulating around is that it was built by Giant Mound Builders who ruled this place a long time ago. This is backed up by old Newspapers which have shown numerous times that giant skeletons were found under mounds in Florida.
Now, about 6 months ago, I showed you some ancient stone circles in Ohio. At that time, I was just getting started with researching ancient structures in the U.S, and in Ohio, there are people who swear these were built by Giants. The stone circles in Ohio were also built 2000 years ago. So you can see a common pattern emerging between sites that are separated by thousands of miles. Stone circles, mounds, giant skeletons.
Standard historians and archeologists will tell you that Native Americans existed as different clans in different areas with no communication between them. But, you can see beyond a shadow of a doubt that a particular group of mound builders created similar structures all over the U.S.
Experts will also tell you that this circle was built by a tribe called Tequesta and this is surprising for a lot of different reasons. I’ll give you some of them: standard archeologists say Tequesta people were semi-nomadic people, did not practice agriculture and they did not build any permanent structures. But why would they create a permanent structure like Miami Circle?
Problem number 2: two basalt axe heads were found on site. These axe heads were much larger than usual, but what’s more interesting, Basalt is not found anywhere in Florida. Closest place you can find it is in Macon, Georgia about 600 miles away.
So, understand it is impossible to transport items found 600 miles away, unless you have a great civilization with established trade routes. Now, at that time, there were no horses, no pack animals which means you have to walk six hundred miles to put these axe heads here.
We look at ancient mysteries all over the world like Mayan Pyramids and Machu Picchu, but there is plenty to be seen in the U.S. But ancient structures are not respected in the U.S. Believe it or not, people wanted to demolish the Miami Circle, because this property is worth 10 million dollars and located right in the middle of downtown Miami. College students and activists had to protest and save it. And today, you can see something that is over 2000 years old and people are using it to walk their dogs here, to say the least. Let’s hope they at least put a fence around it in the near future.

2018 Amtrak Cross Country Train Trip - Florida to Oregon
Taking the train cross country was something I'd always wanted to do. A bucket list trip. So, I booked a one way ticket to Florida, and traveled back home to Oregon on the rail.
My goal was to document the trip, but it's hard to capture the full experience.
I talked a lot about my trip on the Experiences You Should Have podcast:
I thought it would be helpful to answer some questions:
// What Music Did You Use? //
Andy White:
Gramatik:
AllttA:
// How much did the trip cost? //
The train ticket was $369, coach seats the whole trip. Sleeper cars can range anywhere from $200 to as much as $1,000 per leg of the trip, depending on the time of year.
// How long did it take, and what was the route? //
The train left Orlando, Florida on Monday evening, and it arrives in Portland, Oregon on Friday Morning. So 4 nights total. My trip was a bit farther as I had to go from Portland, Oregon to Chemult, Oregon, which arrived Friday evening.
Orlando---Washington DC---Chicago---Portland
// Were you on the train the entire time? //
No. There were two extended layovers - one in Washington DC for about 9 hours. There is a metro station at Union Station - so easy access to get anywhere you need to go. In Chicago, my layover was about 5.5 hours. Enough time to get out, see some sights and get some food. You can check your bags at the train stations as well, for about $10.
// What were some must have items on the train? //
Ear plugs. Eye mask. Those two in particular. Ear plugs to drown out the noise of other passengers, the noise of the train on the rails, the train horn. Crucial. Eye mask because there are lights in the train at night. It's dim like an airplane would be, but still lighting here and there.
Snacks. Tablet. Headphones. Chargers. Each seat has 2 110V outlets, and each of the tables in the observation cars do as well, so power is never an issue. Neck pillow. Blanket.
// You didn't mention the food. How was the food? //
I would say that train food is slightly better than airplane food. The menu in the dining car on all of the trains was the same - so it did get a bit old. For breakfast, prices ranged from $8 to $14, lunch $12-$15 and dinner $16-$25. There is also a snack bar that has candy, snacks, drinks (beer and wine), as well as some sandwiches and burgers. The service in the dining car was very good, and the staff were all very friendly. Traveling alone, meals in the dining car were always fun because you're typically paired with 1-3 strangers. So you're typically exchanging stories for around an hour. Here is a link to the dining page on Amtrak:
// Sleeping in coach. Was it that bad? //
I'd say, yes. If it were an overnight trip, not so bad. Even 2 nights. But by night 3 and 4 - it started to take a toll. The first 2 nights of the trip I had someone in the seat right next to me. That changes the experience quite a bit, as it's pretty close quarters. Having two seats to yourself makes a pretty big difference. Not in comfort as much as just feeling a bit of privacy. Comfort wise, it's just difficult to really get comfortable in those seats. There's not really any getting around that. Ear plugs and and eye mask are pretty invaluable.
// How were the bathrooms? Were there showers? //
The bathrooms were similar to an airplane bathroom. And there were plenty of bathrooms, so you never felt like you had to hurry, or had someone waiting for you. There was also a larger bathroom with a bit more space with a changing area. No showers. There are showers in the sleeper cars if you went that route.
// What about your belongings? Were they safe? //
I had a backpack with camera gear, tablet, headphones, chargers, etc. that I kept with me 90% of the time. Generally, I felt like my things would have been safe on my seat - but better safe than sorry. My carry on luggage (airplane overhead bin size) - I kept in storage racks on the bottom level of the train. In theory, anyone could have grabbed it and stepped off the train at their stop, but it made it with me the whole trip.

HISTORY:
Construction of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Confidence began at the United States Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, Maryland, in 1965 and was completed in 1966. Fifth of 16 vessels in the class, Confidence was designed for search and rescue, law enforcement, and alien migrant interdiction operations (AMIO). Originally assigned to the Seventeenth Coast Guard District to support operations in Kodiak, Alaska, in the spring of 1983, following 17 years in Alaskan waters, Confidence was reassigned to the Thirteenth Coast Guard District and was homeported in Port Angeles, Washington. During her time in the Pacific Northwest, Confidence’s crew seized 17 foreign and U.S. vessels for violations of U.S. law. In January 1986, Confidence and her crew seized the Panamanian freighter “Eagle 1” and its cargo of 506 pounds (230 kg) of cocaine. This was the largest maritime seizure of cocaine on the west coast at the time. *
Confidence was decommissioned and sent to the United States Coast Guard Yard in February 1987 for a major overhaul, referred to as a Midlife Maintenance Availability. Modifications included the installation of a new electronics package to increase the ship’s effectiveness, new engines and smokestacks to increase efficiency, and habitability was improved. In October 1988, Confidence was commissioned back into service and sent to her new homeport in Port Canaveral, Florida. Now the ship is normally assigned to patrol the waters off the southern coast of the United States, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean. Her primary missions are Counter Drug operations, Alien Migrant Interdiction Operations (AMIO), Homeland Security Operations, fisheries law enforcement, and Search and Rescue (SAR). *
Since the fall of 1991, Confidence has been heavily involved in AMIO, including the interdiction of Haitian, Cuban, and Dominican Republic migrants attempting to illegally enter the U.S. One highlight of these operations was Confidence’s participation in Operation Able Vigil in 1993, and rescued 1,123 Cuban migrants in less than 4 weeks. The busiest day resulted in the interdiction of 346 migrants from 46 separate rafts and boats in just 16 hours. In the spring of 1992, Confidence participated in Operation Able Manner, interdicting 428 Haitian migrants. Later that year, the ship was the primary platform for Operation Restore Dignity off the coast of Haiti, recovering 78 Haitians who perished when their ferry sank. *
In 2001, Confidence was outfitted with an Over the Horizon (OTH) Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat, designed to transport law enforcement teams at high speeds for long distances independent of the cutter. From January 2003 until June 2005, Confidence interdicted over 1,100 Cuban, Haitian, and Dominican migrants with several noteworthy cases. In November 2004, Confidence rescued 82 migrants from a 28-foot (8.5 m) Haitian sailing vessel taking on water off the coast of the Bahamas. In January 2005, Confidence crewmembers rescued 127 migrants in 8-foot (2.4 m) seas from a 40-foot (12 m), grossly overloaded Dominican yola. In June, 2005 during a ten-day period, Confidence safely intercepted 162 Haitians from a 40-foot (12 m) vessel on the Great Bahama Bank, seven Cubans from a makeshift vessel sinking in the Old Bahama Channel and 111 Haitians in a 30-foot (9.1 m) vessel in 9-foot (2.7 m) seas north of Great Inagua, Bahamas. *
The year 2006 was the 40th anniversary of Confidence’s initial commissioning. The original life expectancy of this cutter class was 30 years, but it is expected she will remain in service an additional 10-15 years. During her years of faithful service, Confidence has been awarded the United States Secretary of Transportation’s Gold Medal for Outstanding Achievement, 6 Coast Guard Unit Commendations, 5 Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendations, 3 National Defense Service Medals, 4 Humanitarian Service Medals, and 4 Special Operations Ribbons. Following the ship’s 2007 Tailored Annual Cutter Training, Confidence earned her 10th consecutive Coast Guard Battle E Ribbon for Operational Excellence. *

Train Ride from New York City to Chicago with Amtrak
Our one week in New York City felt like it was merely a couple of days. A whirlwind tour of the Big Apple left us wanting to linger; however, the lure of the Chicago had us hopping on an Amtrak train again for our longest train journey of our three week trip. With comfortable seats and plenty of legroom, we devoted many of the long hours we had to kill to reading books and catching up on work on our computers. The highlight of the journey for us both was the fancy dining cart. Although our meal wasn't cheap, it was quite the experience sitting in a nice dining cart and being served a three course meal. We don't splurge often but when we do we thoroughly enjoy it.

The nice weather of New York faded by the time we got closer to Chicago. It started to rain quite heavily; however, the scenery was still fascinating and we ended up napping the rest of the way.
These two trips with Amtrak certainly helped improve our opinion of overland travel in the United States. If we do another American road trip we'll definitely take the train again.
