Colorado 2017: Estes Park Campground, Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Lake, Adams Falls
The next few days of our trip, we camped at Estes Park Campground at Mary's Lake. I cannot say enough good things about this campground. The staff are very friendly, the amenities are plentiful, and the place is very clean. We went into Rocky Mountain National Park a few times. Once to Sprague Lake for some awesome photos, and also along Trail Ridge Road to Grand Lake. When we got to Grand lake we ate at a deli called Cy's Deli (excellent food), and then we decided to do a relatively easy hike up to Adam's falls. It was pretty amazing to see the raging waterfalls. Along the way we saw several deer and elk in the area. This was a very fun day on this trip

Moose Walks Through Our Campsite - Rocky Mountain National Park - Tonahutu Creek Trail
We were camping at Sunrise Campsite on the Tonahutu Creek Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park. A few hours earlier we spotted this Moose and his friend in the lower meadow grazing. After taking some photos we went about our business. About 2 hours later, after dinner, my girlfriend, Kira, and I spotted the Moose's friend in the upper meadow next to our camp. About ten minutes after that, I was heating up some water for hot chocolate when suddenly I saw this guy's antlers pop up from behind a nearby tree. I immediately turned off the stove, then I jumped up and backed away trying to give him room. I positioned myself such that the tent was in between him and me, and then I calmly tried to talk to him so that he knew where I was and also didn't feel threatened. He clumsily tried to walk around our campsite to get to his friend in the upper meadow, but ended up not being able to find a way around. He looped back to our spot and then, after taking a quick look at me, managed to walk through. It was absolutely surreal seeing that moose so close up.
Backpacking with Kids: Fern Lake Trailhead, Rocky Mountain National Park
This was a two night trip. Our hikes to our campsites were pretty easy, about 3 miles each day. We did do additional day hikes to explore the park more. As we do more backpacking trips with our kids, we realize they are capable of more and more... And they love it! Our advice for those just starting out: Be cautious about going on a backpacking trip with continuous rain. Here in Colorado, we do typically get afternoon storms, but it tends to be sunny otherwise. But avoid those 40 degree, constantly wet trips with the little ones. Remember, the goal is to have fun!

Hiking the CDT Loop - Colorado Backpacking & Camping Trip
4 Days of Hiking, Camping & Backpacking on Colorado’s Continental Divide Trail in the Rocky Mountain National Forest. GPS Data at
For this backpacking trip, we’ll be doing a 4 day, 3 night camping trip on a section of the Continental Divide Trail in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park. Sometimes referred to as the “CDT Short Loop”, this backpacking loop is a 29 mile mile circuit with several access point options. In our case, we parked at the Green Mountain trailhead, just past the RMNP Kawuneeche visitor center and park entrance by Grand Lake, CO. The 2 mile Green Mountain trail provided us access to the CDT and brought our mileage for the loop up to 33 miles.

Colorado Is BEAUTIFUL! ???? Epic Hike in Rocky Mountain State Park ????
You won't believe how beautiful Colorado is! It might be our new favorite state ???? We started the day off with an insane hike through the Rocky Mountains. The whole place was covered in click snow, but that just made it more fun! Then we finish up the day by heading to a house show put on by one of our favorite musicians, David Bazan. In short, it was an absolutely perfect day ????
Check out David Bazan's music here:

Bears in Estes Park and RMNP
Black bears were celebrated in Estes Park May 7th with a fantastic benefit concert by Cowboy Brad Fitch and the TropiCowboy Band. A fun education area included Colorado Parks & Wildlife, Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Valley Bear Education Task Force, Bears Are Us, Estes Park Police Auxillary, YMCA and more. This 15 minute video was shown and featured these same fine organizations warning of feeding bears, intentionally or unintentionally. Hear what they have to say.
Bears of Rocky Mountain National Park
The American Black Bear calls RMNP home, and when visiting the park you are in Bear Country. Watch this video to learn more about Black Bears and how you can avoid negative bear contacts. Do your part to help save bears!
