Landmark structures washed away by Lekima in east Chinese provinces
Lekima, the ninth and strongest typhoon of the year to hit China, wreaked havoc as it churned through the country's east coast. Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Center Mega Project :China Building The Tallest Skyscraper For 2024
Shenzhen Hong Kong International Center: Shenzhen Is Building The Tallest Building In China For 2024
Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill has unveiled its design for the Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Center, a 700-metre tall glass tower in Shenzhen, China.
The megatall skyscraper is set to become the tallest building in China, and the world's second tallest building behind SOM's 828-metre Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Center is being designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill for Chinese property developers Shiamo Group, which first revealed the design in May 2018 – but didn't disclose details of the architect at the time.
It will be built between the foothills of Longcheng Park and the Dayun National Park, and form part of the Chicago-based architect's wider masterplan for the Longgang district in the east of the city.
The visuals released by the practice show the skyscraper's twisted, anthropomorphic form, designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill in reference to its proximity to several major sporting venues in the district.
The Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Center is anthropomorphic in its character, honoring in an abstract way the athletes that train to perform in the world-class stadiums directly adjacent to our masterplan for this project, explained design partner Adrian Smith.
The result is a muscular expression in high-performance glass, with textured layers that define the elements of its shaped form.
Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Center will be topped with one of the world's highest observation decks, alongside a restaurant, night club, spa facilities and a swimming pool.
In the evenings, the tower will become a visual, sound, and light show, reinforcing the district's athletic and entertainment purposes.
Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill's wider masterplan imagines a mixed-use district for Shenzhen, which connects with the tower and comprises a large retail facility, apartment towers, a cultural centre, a five-star hotel, a library and offices.
It will be wrapped by landscaped promenades, which are designed to withstand Shenzhen's heavy rainfall and flooding in the summer months. They will be made from engineered soils, retention ponds, native plants, and foliage as a network of systems that will recycle the rain water for irrigation and other uses.
Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill's environmental goal for the Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Center, and the surrounding landscape, is to obtain LEED Platinum certification – one of the most popular green building certification programs used worldwide.
Shenzhen-Hong International Center will be constructed using high-performance glass to reduce heat gain, the entire development will be orientated to optimise solar gain and natural ventilation.
The architects have also incorporated a large public transportation centre and bus terminal into the masterplan.
Shenzhen-Hong International Center joins the boom of big building projects currently being designed and constructed in Shenzhen, which accounted for 10 percent of the 2018's record number of supertall skyscrapers completed worldwide.

Shenzhen: City of the Future. The high-tech life of China’s Silicon Valley
More films about China:
- Technology and innovation hub, Shenzhen is known as China’s “silicon valley” and “the city of the future”.
- Once a fishing village, in just 50 years it grew into a megacity packed with skyscrapers.
- It hosts international technology exhibitions and forums and attracts creators and investors from around the world, contributing to its population boom
- Inventors and engineers working here, create helpful robots, hybrid cars and smart car parks
China has a saying; to see the past, visit Beijing, to see the present, go to Shanghai but for the future, it’s Shenzhen. Shenzhen has transformed itself from a tiny fishing village to a megacity in just 50 years, its population tripling since the 1990s. The city is a magnet for tech-savvy and inventive dreamers from all across China and the world, because of them Shenzhen has become the “silicon valley” of China, a true technology and innovation hub.
The sprawling metropolis is famed for its skyscrapers, hybrid cars, solar energy and for being home to a great many hi-tech companies. UBTECH is one of them; its focus is on making robots an indispensable part of everyday life. Its key product is the android – a human-like robot that can help out in the workplace and around the home as well as becoming both teacher and playmate for kids.
Shenzhen municipal government encourages citizens to switch to eco-friendly, hybrid cars that use both fuel and solar energy. The vehicles are made by a local manufacturer, BYD. Public transport here is hybrid too helping maintain the city’s ecological reputation, which is among the best in China. The city’s rapid growth demands new solutions for optimising space. Shenzhen is one of the top 10 cities in the world for having the most skyscrapers. Today, its engineers are working on a solution to the ever present problem of parking by developing smart car parks that can automatically place cars in tight spaces while the driver simply walks away.
The technological achievements of the city's many companies are regularly showcased at popular international exhibitions and forums.

Hong Kong , China Zhuhai Wai Lingding Island tour
Wai Lingding Island is located to the south of Hong Kong. It is an island town under the jurisdiction of the east district of Zhuhai City. It is 27.5 sea miles away from Macau and the urban area of Zhuhai to the west, about 35 sea miles from Shenzhen to the north, 6 sea miles aways from the Changzhou Island in Hongkong and 11 sea miles away from the Jianshazui harbor in Kowloon. There are fliers and yachts coming and going every day. Wai Lingding Island has a unique style among the scattered Wanshan islands. It covers an area of 4.23 square kilometers. It is graceful and tranquil with fresh air. It is famous for its natural beauty, an ideal place for tourism and vacation, large and small conferences, and all sorts of trainings.
Wai Lingding Island is graceful and sublime. The Lingding peak, the highest peak on the island, is as high as 311.8 meters. There are luxuriant flowers and trees all the year around, providing much beauty. Climbing high and overlooking, you can see the scattered islands. And chasing waves in a speeding boat, you can experience the wash of the waves and the crosscurrent of the sea. In a clear day, on the Linding seas, the sea and the sky are in one color. At dusk of a thin mist, the rosy clouds are reflected in the sea with a fishing boat in the sunset. Among the watery mist, the sceneries in the Xing River sometimes emerge out from cloud and sometimes disappear among fog like a mirage in fantasy. The island is gorgeous though not very large and graceful though not very high. It is praised for clean water and exotic stones. The beach of the Lingding Bay, the Tower Bay and the Dadong Bay on the island has fine sands and crystal water. They are ideal places for fishing, swimming and surging. There are already tourist facilities, such as the Lingding sea Hotel and the Russian Mountain Resort. The main scenic spots include: the beach amusement park in the Dadong Bay, the scenic area of the Stone Park, the stone carvings on the Mo Rock, the mirage on the Xiang River, the morning bell of the North Emperor Mountain, the collection of sightseeing scenes on the Lingding peak.

What happened to Houtouwan, a once bustling fishing village?
(7 Jun 2018) LEADIN:
An abandoned Chinese fishing village, once home to three-thousand people, is presenting visitors with a chance to explore a site now engulfed by nature.
The ghost town of Houtouwan is filled with homes ravaged by weather and overtaken by creeping vines and provides an insight into the scale of China's population shift towards city life.
STORYLINE:
Mist and an eerie quiet haunt the once-bustling fishing village of Houtouwan on an island off the east coast of China.
Blanketed with greenery, the ghost town is perched atop cliffs looking west into sea mists obscuring the horizon.
Abandoned homes covered in vines stand silent but for the surf, buzzing mosquitoes, and birds.
Once 3,000 people lived here in cliff-side homes now empty but for honeysuckle blossoms, weeds and 5 remaining residents.
They live in a city mostly abandoned in 2002, and with signs reading do not enter.
Zhu Mandi and her 27-year old son Wang Yi are returning to visit the family home and to see what happened to Houtouwan.
Wang Yi left the village at the age of five when his family relocated to access better services in the island's main town.
Memories of village festivals draw infectious laughter from his mother Zhu Mandi, who still dreams about her childhood among the mist-shrouded mountains next to the sea.
It reminded me the things from my childhood, when I was very young. After moving to the town Shengshan, every time I have a dream it is here. I dream of playing here, and it looks like what it did when we played here when I was young, she says.
Vines have since wound through the three-story house and ivy has crept through the now broken wooden front door.
The island draws tourists from the mainland intrigued by the village's unique devastation. Ivy cloaks some buildings completely but on many Houtouwan houses, beautiful roof tiles still gleam and broken verandas offer majestic views of the stormy sea.
Visitors to the village must take a boat to Shengshan then a taxi up a hill to a cemetery overlooking the village, and then descend down perilous footpaths.
The village isn't entirely abandoned. Five people still reside here with a relaxed pack of dogs that roam the empty homes.
Sun Ayue lives in a small home just off the main path through the old village. The 62-year old former fisherman remembers the village's boom times - and the bust.
China is the world's largest fishing nation. But poor enforcement of fishing regulations has led to a rapid decline in fish stocks.
China imposed seasonal moratoriums on fishing operations in the late 1990s to protect fish stocks from further depletion.
Yet Sun says most of the village's 600 residents ultimately left Houtouwan because it lacked proper roads and a school.
Transportation was inconvenient and, secondly, for kids' education, the teachers could not teach here. It was too far away, they arrived in the dark and left in the dark, that was a problem. There were two problems.
Houtouwan is a microcosm of the entire Chinese society, according to Zhao Yeqin, an associate sociology professor at the East China Normal University in Shanghai. The village reflects a broader migration trend that has seen countless Chinese move from rural areas to urban mega cities like Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
In Houtouwan's heyday, Lin Fazhen ran a small store in 1984 catering to fishermen. He sold cigarettes, alcohol, fishing supplies, canned food, biscuits and fruit that he imported on boats from the mainland.

Vietnamese deploy missile in Nansha Island in south china sea after trespassing chinese Territory
China, locked in an escalating territorial dispute with Japan in the East China Sea, made two announcements relating to its claims to the South China Sea.
In the first, the official Xinhua News Agency reported a People's Liberation Army Navy fleet, which included the missile destroyer Qingdao and missile frigates Yantai and Yancheng, concluded patrol and training missions in the country's territorial waters in the South China Sea. The fleet then entered the West Pacific through the Bashi Channel between Taiwan and the Philippines' Luzon Island to continue its maritime training.
The report said during its patrol of the Nansha Islands and adjacent waters, the fleet maintained a high level of combat readiness and carried out drills related to expelling ships that infringe on China's territorial waters.
The Nansha Islands are Chinese names for part of the disputed islands that include the Spratlys in the South China, which are also claimed by Vietnam. As free passage through the sea lanes are critical for global commerce, China's aggressive claims to vast regions of sea, given its growing military might, have become a source of major international concern. Many smaller neighboring countries including Vietnam and the Philippines also have overlapping claims.
China's military already has deployed a PLA garrison to guard the disputed islands.
In the other announcement, Wu Zhuang, head of the South China Sea Fishery Bureau in the Ministry of Agriculture, said China will conduct daily fishery administrative patrols in the sea in 2014 to better safeguard the legitimate interests of domestic fishermen, Xinhua reported.
Wu said because of more frequent patrols no Chinese vessels numbering more than 400 engaging in normal fishery operations in the Nansha waters were illegally seized by foreign countries last year.
Starting this year, Chinese police on the island province of Hainan have been authorized to board vessels that illegally enter its waters as part of an effort to protect the South China Sea. The province administers about 722,000 square miles of the South China Sea.
Last year, China set off a big controversy with its new passports, with maps showing the disputed regions in the South China Sea as its territory.
Li Keqiang, the new Chinese vice premier who is expected to take over from outgoing Premier Wen Jiabao next month, urged China's State Oceanic Administration marine surveillance staff Thursday to intensify law enforcement in China's sea territory to safeguard the nation's marine interests, Xinhua reported.
Supervising and governing seas under the jurisdiction of China is the main responsibility of Chinese marine surveillance staff, said Li, who is also one of the seven members of the powerful Politburo Standing Committee.
Xinhua quoted Li as saying the Jiaolong, China's manned submersible, can reach more than 22,960 feet below the sea. He also praised the Kunlun Station, China's third station in the antarctic.

china’s beaches: beautiful or dirty?
#SHENZHENBEACHES
We took a weekend trip to Jiaochangwei Beach (较场尾沙滩) in Dapeng, Shenzhen and it was a pretty nice beach – although the coastline did have a bit of litter :(
Visited the beach in early September and the weather was beautiful and hot, less crowded during the day than at night. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach this beach via taxi from Shenzhen. The water is warm and shallow so you can wade out for about 200m!

Hong Kong - MTR East Rail Line - Tai Wo Station (2018)
Tai Wo (Chinese: 太和; Cantonese Yale: Taaiwò; pronounced: [tʰāːiwɔ̏ː]) is a station on Hong Kong's East Rail Line. It was opened on 9 May 1989 as an intermediate station of the East Rail Line upon the completion of the Tai Wo Estate in Tai Po New Town.
The East Rail line (Chinese: 東鐵綫) is one of eleven railway lines of the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system in Hong Kong. It used to be one of the three lines of the Kowloon–Canton Railway (KCR) network. It was known as the KCR British Section (九廣鐵路英段) from 1910 to 1996,[3][better source needed] and the KCR East Rail (九廣東鐵) from 1996 to 2007. The East Rail was the only railway line of the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) before the construction of KCR West Rail (now known as West Rail line).
The railway line starts at Hung Hom station in Kowloon and branches in the north at Sheung Shui to terminate at Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau stations. Both are boundary crossing points into Shenzhen. All of the stations are at- grade or elevated before the opening of Shatin to Central Link which will provide underground track. The distance between Hung Hom and Lo Wu stations is 34 km (21 mi).[4] The total distance of the line (including the Lok Ma Chau Spur line) is approximately 41 km (25 mi), making it the longest line in total distance within the system network. The line is coloured light blue on the MTR map.
The same railway is used for passenger and freight services crossing the boundary to other cities, including Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing. These longer distance passenger services (dubbed Through Trains) start at Hung Hom and end at their termini in the mainland. The line is generally double tracked and electrified, except for certain goods sheds. Immigration and customs facilities are available at Hung Hom (for Through Train passengers) and Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau (for border interchange passengers) stations.
The railway line was operated by Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) prior to the MTR-KCR merger and has since been taken over by MTR Corporation (MTRC) on 2 December 2007 after the merger was completed. KCRC continues to own the line and its infrastructure while leasing its operations to MTRC.
A southern extension is under construction which will take the line under Victoria Harbour to a new terminus, Admiralty station, on Hong Kong Island. The extension, the centrepiece of the Sha Tin to Central Link expansion project, is due to be ready for service by 2021.

Bus from Hong Kong to Shenzhen Huanggang Port China #travel #hongkong #shenzhen
If you are planning to travel to Shenzhen from Hong Kong, you might want to try traveling by bus. As there are many step up points around Hong Kong which most will just drive straight to the Huanggang Port and not have in between stops. This service is 24hours so even if you want to travel after midnight it is still possible in both ways, going to Shenzhen or going back to Hong Kong.
Also its cheaper to travel also as it cost only $39HKD with Octopus, but if I was to take the MTR to Lok Ma Chau it would have costed $46.7HKD. Travel time is also much different as it took like 30minutes from Tsuen Wan to Huanggang Port, but if I would take the MTR to Lok Ma Chau it would take 71minutes.
