Detroit: Eastern Market - Historic Trendy - My Personal Favourite
Detroit's Eastern Market is my go-to place year round. Now mind you I have an interest in photography and videography and the Eastern Market area provides lots of opportunity for that - more than any other area in Detroit. Yes, I know some would go for Greektown or the Belt but I find the Eastern Market area has more to offer. In this first vlog on the Eastern Market I am covering peripheral areas along Russel Street and some of the historical buildings.
Eastern Market is a historic commercial district in Detroit, Michigan. It is located approximately one mile (1.6 km) northeast of the city's downtown and is bordered on the south by Gratiot Avenue, the north by Mack Avenue, the east by St. Aubin Street, and the west by Interstate 75 (I-75, Chrysler Freeway). The district was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1974 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978; the district's boundary was increased in 2007.[1] The Eastern Market is located on the city's central east side near St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and the Lafayette Park neighborhood. The market was transferred from city management in 2006, and now operates through a public-private partnership with the Eastern Market Corporation. Eastern Market is the largest historic public market district in the United States,[3] and the Eastern Market farmer's distribution center is the largest open-air flowerbed market in the United States and has more than 150 foods and specialty businesses.[4] On Saturdays, about 45,000 people shop the city's historic Eastern Market. The Farmer's Market in Detroit was first opened in 1841 at Cadillac Square in the downtown area.[6] In the 1850s, additional markets were opened on the east side of the city (the present location of Eastern Market) and the west side at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull, later the site of Tiger Stadium.[6] In the beginning, the eastern market was devoted to hay and wood sales, but in 1891, sales sheds were built and the Farmer's Market was moved from Cadillac Square to its present location and renamed Eastern Market.[6]
The Eastern Market grew through the following decades, and additional sheds were constructed in 1922 and 1929.[6] Following World War II, more wholesalers and food processors moved into the area, and Eastern Market developed into an important hub for the wholesale food distribution industry.
In 1970, the stalls rented by farmers were decorated with paintings of produce and livestock. Over the years, these murals have become Eastern Market logos.
The market presently covers 43 acres (17 ha) and is the largest historic public market district in the United States.[3] Eastern Market is a selling point for a wide variety of produce, meat, spice and other products. It is particularly busy on Saturdays, when farmers tend to bring in their poultry and livestock, along with fresh produce, for sale. Although the market is in the largest historic public market district in the U.S., the market itself is operated by the private sector though a public-private partnership with the Eastern Market Corporation. The Eastern Market Corporation has operated the property since 2006. According to Jennifer Knott Giering, President of the Dearborn, Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Since [privatization in] July 2006, the market has renovated infrastructure, increased attendance and has become a catalyst for development in the [surrounding] neighborhood.” Although there is official Detroit Lions tailgating at Ford Field, many tailgaters prefer Eastern Market for Lions home game tailgating.
Local and internationally recognized art galleries, studios and makerspaces have recently established spaces nearby, including The Red Bull House of Art, OmniCorp Detroit, Inner State Gallery, Riopelle and Project. Independent eateries, shops and performance spaces such as Trinosophes, Antietam, and People's Records have arrived in storefront spaces along Gratiot Avenue, and light manufacturing and e-commerce retailers including 1xRun and Cyberoptix continue to operate out of upper floors.

MICHIGAN VLOG #5: Eastern Market in Detroit
Hello Cuties! ♡ On July 19, 2017 I went to Detroit's Historic Eastern Market for the first time. Basically they sell a lot of Michigan grown produce that is organic and what not. They also have some food vendors there as well. I didn't film much inside because there were so many people there and I was kind of shy to film. Anyways, thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy! ヘ( ̄▽ ̄*)ノ

The Inn at 97 Winder in Detroit, Michigan
The Inn at 97 Winder is a beautiful and historic boutique inn in downtown Detroit.
I spent one night at the inn during my visit to Detroit and I had a wonderful time at the property.
The inn features 9 different uniquely decorated rooms and the interior of the inn has been designed in a historic and classical way giving off a very charming and welcoming vibe.
I stayed in the loft room on the top floor of the inn and it was spacious, well-suited for two people, and there was a beautiful wrought iron staircase that led up to a loft seating area with an incredible view of the Detroit skyline.
I definitely prefer this style of boutique hotel accommodation compared to staying at a chain hotel because you get a much more memorable experience.
Overall, I would definitely recommend checking out the charming Inn at 97 Winder if you're planning a trip to Detroit and looking for somewhere to stay in the city.
For a more in-depth review of the property be sure to check out my blog post here:

DETROIT: EASTERN MARKET MURALS - Among World's Top Five
One of the top destinations for visitors, locals, and Instagrammers in Detroit’s art scene is Eastern Market, where, in the past few years, over 125 murals have been created on buildings throughout the district. Each September, artists from around the world come to Detroit to create new murals during Murals in the Market. The popular festival just received big recognition internationally.
Smithsonian Magazine just named its top mural festivals from around the world, and included with festivals in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Estonia, and Canada is the only U.S. fest on the list—Murals in the Market. The article notes the density of the collection in the district, and its plans for this year.
1xRun, the festival organizers, plan a “family reunion-themed block party” this year, along with guided tours September 22 and 29, plus 10,000 printed free maps for visitors to use as they walk through the district. We wanted to “create a physical piece that people can pick up, take around the neighborhood, and interact with the murals on a deeper level,” says 1xRun CEO Jesse Cory. 30 new murals are expected as part of the festival this year.
Murals in the Market also has a Patronicity campaign running. If the group raises $50,000, another $50,000 will be matched by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Funds will go toward the festival’s production and expenses.
This year’s artists include Sydney G. James, Sheefy, Pat Perry, Michelle Tanguay, and Ellen Rutt.
Patronicity describes it this way. Coming this September, Murals In The Market will return for the fourth consecutive year bringing large scale murals to Detroit's Historic Eastern Market! Through the generous support of our community partners, sponsors, friends and hundreds of talented local and international artists, Murals In The Market has helped bring 125+ murals to Detroit over the last three years. But we need your help! Please help us continue to make Murals In The Market one of the world's premier mural festivals by making a tax deductible donation to Eastern Market Corporation!
100% of the proceeds from this campaign will go towards the festival's production and expenses, and once we have reached our goal of $50,000 the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) will match our fundraising dollar for dollar! With your help, we can continue to bring new vibrant public art to Detroit from some of today's most sought after local and international artists.
Join us this September 13th - 22nd, as 1xRUN, in partnership with Eastern Market Corporation, will curate and produce Murals in the Market 2018 and bring 30 new murals to Detroit's Eastern Market, bringing the total to 150 large scale murals throughout the 1 square mile market!
Activating the entire footprint of the Market District, Murals In The Market will also host over a dozen free community events for visitors of all ages, including artist lectures, children's workshops, neighborhood tours, art installations & exhibitions, block party concerts, and of course live mural painting.
For the past three years, millions of Detroit residents and visitors from around the world have visited Eastern Market to take see what has become the city's largest outdoor public art installation. Using the funds from this campaign, Murals In The Market will be able to continue to add to the Market's rich history of public art helping encourage exploration throughout the entire market District, as well as make the 100-year-old farmer's market one of the world's premier destinations for public art.
Just as one of the United States’ oldest farmers market provides quality fresh food for people from all walks of life, Murals In The Market brings groundbreaking artistic & cultural activations to the district showcasing hundreds of public works that are free and open to the public.
Helping unify local residents, traveling visitors and business owners of Detroit’s Historic Eastern Market through the power of public art, Murals In The Market strengthens and expands the footprint of the Market by activating new or underutilized spaces and facilitating compelling connections in the local community.
What to Expect in 2018
Over 30+ New Large Scale Murals + Public Art Installations
New Civic Sculptures Throughout Eastern Market
Over 20+ New Local Artists Join The 2018 Roster
Legacy Sign Painting Restoration On Local Businesses
New Engaging Street Level Public Art Installations
District-wide Activations Over 7 Days
2018 Kick Off mural by Pat Perry, Plus The 2018 Artists Roster Announcement June 29th

The City Of Detroit
A compilation of photos I have taken in the city of Detroit michigan, during the summer of 2006 and 2007. This video is kind of sad. You will see how Detroit has become neglected and forgotten. Many landmarks including the train station, Fort Wayne, Eastern Market...ect. Will the city ever recover?
Castle For Sale in Michigan, USA
STEP INTO THE CASTLE AND step back in time to a home modeled after a fifth-century castle built near Nuremberg, Germany. The Castle was crafted during the 1920s in Jackson, Michigan, by the eccentric violinist Max Helmer. Helmer was the local Liberace of his day, a wealthy musician who inherited a large estate from his father, a prominent Jackson banker, Fred Helmer. Helmer fell in love with medieval structures while touring Europe in the 1920s as a concert violinist. The Castle was designed for seclusion, but enjoys beautiful views on one of the most elevated points in the area.
Builder C.J. Jorgensen crafted the tower using fieldstone from the surrounding region. More than 500 tons of rock and 300 barrels of cement were used to build the first five floors. Jorgensen used horses, nine helpers and a crane. The tower walls are 3-feet-wide at the base, and are tapered to the top. Beneath the structure is a customary castle feature, a dungeon, entered through a trap door on the first floor. The Castle has been renovated to seamlessly conjoin the old and the new, the pinnacle of which is the 3-story addition completed in 1942. This project added a great room, master suite, family room, and modernized kitchen to the property; thus, bringing the home in line with contemporary living while maintaining its historical charm.
A History of Family, Friends, Adventure and Escape: When the, then newlywed, current owners decided to move from the Detroit area to a more peaceful, slowpaced location to raise a young family - their wildest dreams couldn’t have prepared them for what they discovered.
The Castle they found hidden on the highest point of Jackson County in Lower Michigan (National
Geological Survey Market on-site) proved to transform both the place and their family in an almost magical
way. The unique setting in which to raise a family and the inherent responsibility to continue the fascinating
history of the property, proved to be a bonding experience and the quest of a lifetime for the current owners.
Early years at the Castle for this family were spent together pruning, clearing and landscaping the grounds for
year-round fun outdoors. Undertaking countless renovations and restorations, which transformed the property
from the original medieval vision of the eccentric Max Helmer into what is now a truly unique modern
home.

The 10 MOST NATIVE AMERICAN STATES in AMERICA
We fixed the video, taking out the parts that offended people.
In order to determine the most Native American states, we had to look at which states have the most Native Americans as a percentage of their state's total population.
We also added in research on other Native American facts. The result is the most Native American states.
