The Eau Gallie Arts District, or EGAD as the locals fondly call it, is a quaint downtown area on the Space Coast. I decide to give a brief tour of the Downtown Eau Gallie Art District since the Eau Gallie Library was closed.
Artworks Art Festival Eau Gallie Arts District Main Street
The sixteenth annual Artworks Eau Gallie Art Festival showcased the creative culture and historical significance of the Eau Gallie Arts District Main Street.
Link Johnsten founded the Artworks Eau Gallie Art Festival in 1996 after visiting California and watching artists practice their art form on the sidewalks of Santa Monica. He wanted to create the same experience here in Brevard County, Fla.
Although Johnsten tried to get support from the local museum, he said that he sponsored the first festival by himself. Johnsten said that the first years of the festival were simple, but after experiencing success early on, the festival grew with support from local artists and artistic associations.
The success of the Artworks Eau Gallie Art Festival mirrors the growth of the Eau Gallie Arts District Main Street.
According to Chevon Baccus, Executive Director of the Eau Gallie Arts District Main Street, the District will continue to focus on promoting creativity and preserving history.
With a rich history that includes past residents like Zora Neale Hurston, the Eau Gallie Arts District Main Street already has a creative history that it can bring into its future.
