Kagura: Shinto Temple Dance from Early Japan with Miho Takayasu (Japan), March 18th 2013
In early Shinto religious festivals, performers of the Japanese temple dance Kagura channeled the divine feminine spirit of the goddess Ame-no-Uzume to her worshippers. The oldest known Japanese performance practice, Kagura predates and influenced Noh theatre. It continues to be preserved and interpreted by contemporary Japanese performers, including Miho Takayasu, an Osaka-based actress and performer who combines the Kagura she learned as a child in Shinto temples with her contemporary sensibility as a modern dancer and physical theatre performer. Takayasu joins us from Japan to discuss and demonstrate the history and contemporary life of this dance form. Introduction by Andrzej Wirth and translation by Aya Ogawa.

Japan Trip: Spring 2017 | Vlog #9 | Miyajima Island ft. Wild Deer (Hiroshima)
Welcome to the ninth episode of my Japan Trip 2017 vlog series.
This episode Itchy and Rodier board a Ferry to Miyajima Island (Itsukushima) off the coast of Hiroshima. While on the island, they stumble across friendly wild Deer, which appear to be more social than the Deer of Nara. Rodier feeds a Deer with chopsticks. Itchy and Rodier also have a race to the top of Mt. Misen and it's surrounding mountains. After reaching the summit of multiple Mountain tops, they admire the views of Hiroshima and it's surrounding nature. Itchy also tries multiple foods exclusive to the island. Later in the day, Itchy walks over to the floating Torii gate (Itsukushima Shrine) while it's low tide and touches it. Itchy also buys an Ocarina.
Episode 8:
Rodier's Weeb level isn't as high this episode...
We were in Japan from 30th March 2017 - 4th May 2017. Expect plenty of videos! If you ever wish to visit Japan, I highly recommend getting a Japan Rail Pass. With this Rodier and I were able to travel via JR Trains & Shinkansen (Bullet Train) to a great amount of places throughout Japan as many times as we wanted with no extra cost.

[Beautiful Japan] HIROSHIMA Kagura Dance
Kagura Dance
A traditional art of Japan brings mortal and immortal together in a celebration of life
The traditional performance of kagura offered at shrine festivals and rites is derived from the word 'kamukura' or 'kamikura', a 'seat of God' expressing the belief that each shrine is a holy place. To the music of flutes, drums, and other ancient instruments,
the dancers entice the God to this seat, and it is in these moments when one's sense
of being alive is at its highest. Kagura also traces its history back to Japanese mythology. When Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess, hid herself away in a heavenly cave, the Goddess Amenouzume began to dance in front of the cave, and the laughter
of the watching immortals drew the Sun Goddess back out of the darkness. This is believed to be the beginning of kagura dance. Due to its proximity to Shimane Prefecture or land of this Izumo mythology, kagura thrives in the north of Hiroshima Prefecture, where even children form kagura dance groups. The gentle swaying of the dance entertains the Gods as mortal and immortal join in a celebration of life. The vitality
and hospitality of our ancestors lives on in this kagura dance.

節分 Traditional Japanese Dance (Kagura/Bugaku) at Setsubun Event at Kyoto Shrine (Fujinomori Shrine)
Fujinomori Shrine in southern Kyoto puts on a great Setsubun event with ancient traditional dancing - Miko Kagura and Bugaku.
Miko Kagura is a ritual dance performed by shrine maidens known as Miko. In old times Miko were like shamans and their dance was thought to channel spirits.
Bugaku is old Imperial dance going back 1200 years. This style here was children dressed as celestial beings known as Karyobinga, a type of bird-man, who enjoys music and dance.
After the dances, the setsubun devils came accompanied with their own sound effects. They were dispatched with beans thrown by the Karyobinga dancers and another pair was defeated by Miko shooting arrows and throwing some kind of silly string.
