Lefkada (Lefkas) is an island that belongs to the Ionian Sea in Greece (northwesterly of Greece). Lefkada is known for its beautiful beaches. Egremni Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches of this wunderful island. Egremni Beach is situated on the west coast of the island and is about 40 km away from the capital town also called Lefkada. There was an earthquake in winter 2015. The street and the steps to Egremni Beach were completely destroyed. The street is rebuilt but still under construction. You can reach Egremni Beach on the sea route or you can take a walk and climb last meters (also watch out video: Walk from Egremni Beach and Egremni Beach). If you decide to walk, I recommend to wear hiking shoes.

Lefkada - Egremni Beach
Advantages: most beautiful in Lefkada, uncrowded, natural shadow in the morning.
Disadvantages: many stairs up and down, no toilet.
The beach is currently closed following the earthquake that severely affected the island of Lefkada the end of 2015.

This is the beautiful Egremni Beach in the southwest coast of Lefkada. Incredible turquoise waters and stunning cliffs make it a truly unique setting. Access to the beach by land was cut off in 2015 due to an earthquake that hit the island and damaged the road and the stairs that led to the beach.
As of 2019 the only way to reach the beach is by boat from Nydri or Vassiliki.
The good news is that works to repair the road and the stairway have intensified lately and hopefully access by land will be restored soon.

Egremni
(Greek: Εγκρεμνή or Εγκρεμνοί)
is a remote beach located on the south-western coast of the Ionian island of Lefkada, north-western Greece. Since the creation of a sealed road during the mid-1990s, this remote beach has become one of the premier tourist destinations on the island, and in Europe as a whole.
The beach is accessed from the car park via 347 steep steps that hug a rugged cliff face some 150m high. The waters of Egremni are strikingly clear and the sunsets are frequently dramatic. The beach is composed of fine to medium-sized pebbles that are very comfortable to lie on, in the white color typical of the Ionian Islands. The sea deepens quite fast, especially on the southern end, where the cruise ships can take the tourists directly on the shore. It also frequently experiences intense waves, so take care if you're with small children. This beach is ideal for nature-lovers seeking tranquility and paradise beauty thanks to its remoteness and the relatively difficult access by the steep stairs. It's one of the longest beaches on the island, stretching for more than 2.5 km. Thanks to its length and to its 20 to 50m width, it's practically impossible to get crowded, even if cruise ships from Nidri often take here hundreds of tourists for a swim. It has a bar and sunbeds for rent, but offers no housing, except wild camping which is quite frequent. The two ends are more crowded, the central part being a haven for topless or even nudist swimmers. As the road leading there is narrow, arrival before 10:00 is highly recommended to avoid congestion. As it's very close to the better known Porto Katsiki beach, follow the road leading to the latter along the west coast of the island and you'll notice the way leading to Egremni which is visibly signaled after the nearest settlement of Athani.

Lefka, Greece, Egremni Beach is a beautiful place. Warm clear water, plenty of colorful fish and few people. An earthquake in 2015 destroyed the road getting to the beach so now only boats may bring people here. When we arrived in the afternoon we almost had the place to ourselves. Nice! The tour boats come in the morning and stay for a couple of hours then it is back to normal. Greece has the beaches and island after island! It will take years to explore and enjoy it all. We anchored up off the beach which is on the west side of the island of Lefkas or Lefkada depending upon which name you would like to use. There is no protection from the north, south or west so one cannot stay here very often. Fortunately we arrived at a time where there is low wind and waves so we were able to anchor and stay a couple of days and enjoy the beach! Life is very good!

Egremni is ranked as one of the best beaches of the European continent, along with Porto Katsiki and Kathisma. It lies on the southwestern coast of the island and due to its length (almost 3 km) it never gets too crowded no matter the cruise ships which sometimes drop tourists.
