The Mondulkiri Project in Cambodia
The Mondulkiri Project is an award winning elephant sanctuary in Cambodia. They have signed an agreement with Bunong indigenous elders to rent a large area of forest close to Sen Monorom to protect it from logging. They also plan to start an elephant breeding program there soon. The Mondulkiri Project is a community project, with monies raised being used to protect the forests for their elephant sanctuary and to support the local Bunong hill tribes with employment, medicine and food donations.

About the mondulkiri sanctuary
The Mondulkiri sanctuary is an Eco-tourism visitor center established by L.E.A.F (local environmental awareness foundation) Cambodia, a nonprofit community organization, which helped to develop forest / wildlife Eco-tourism attractions that directly sustain local forest and animal conservation projects.
The center is located within a natural wildlife corridor area, which is made up of several primary rain forest sections, active / inactive indigenous farms and deforested sections that are currently used to plant crops for feeding the animals.
The lush Otai river, which runs along the valley and attracts local wildlife, hides several beautiful waterfalls, natural pools and rapids.
The center activity provides regular support for indigenous communities in Mondulkiri and for sponsoring the retirement and release of working elephants. For more information about our activity, visit our website project page.

Mondulkiri Elephants - Mondulkiri Elephant & Wildlife Sanctuary by L.E.A.F Cambodia
The Mondulkiri Elephant & Wildlife Sanctuary is a developing ethical and sustainable eco-tourism project situated in Sen Monorom, Mondulkiri in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The project is a joint initiative between the Bunong hill tribe, locals and L.E.A.F, a local non-profit organization that works towards wildlife conservation through ethical elephant tours and community-based eco-tourism projects.
The Mondulkiri Elephant & Wildlife Sanctuary currently sponsors the release and care of six (6) ex-working Cambodian elephants that are negotiated to free them from logging work, commercial tourist rides and heavy farm work. The elephants at the sanctuary are given the opportunity to have a safe and peaceful home and the chance to socialize and roam around the jungles with other elephants – allowing these gentle giants live freely in their natural habitat.

Visit Indigenous Peoples Market in Sen Monorom Town
This video started with a drone shot of Boo Sra Waterfall, followed by drone video of Sen Monorom town and Ko Prei circle, the landmark of Mondulkiri Province. We visited the Indigenous Peoples Market Place at Krong Sen Monorom to get some snacks, some fresh corns, fresh sweet potatoes for grilling at night. There's nothing much selling at this market as it's a local product from local indigenous peoples. They have fresh vegetables, bamboo shoots, avocados, passion fruits, pineapples, raw meats, steamed sweet potatoes and sugarcane juice. My wife's holding a giant bamboo shoot. It's so big. There're more selling that I don't know the names. It was raining, everything and everywhere is wet. We rushed to get back on bus and bought some more chickens to cheer with some beers at night as well. We then headed to our motel and prepared for dinner.
In this video, i used GoPro Hero 5 Black, iPhone 6s & 7s, DJI Phantom 3 Standard.

The Mondulkiri Project 2017 | Cambodia
The Mondulkiri Project was founded in October 2013 and is an award winning Elephant Sanctuary in Cambodia. Mr Tree (the founder) has signed an agreement with Indigenous Elders to rent a large area of the forest to preserve it from logging and for a safe place for the Elephants. The Elephants you see here have been rescued from hard labour and tourist rides. Now they live naturally in the forest and only come to humans of their free will. All money raised by the project goes to the local community and to protect the Elephants.

Meeting the elephants at the Mondulkiri Project, Cambodia
community elephants in Mondulkiri Sanctuary
Following many years of daily work in the forest & carrying tourists, they did not always been eating sufficiantly. Chellot had developed a bad limp, Chepril had a chronic inflamed hip joint. Both were also severely underweight when they first joined us. Our rescue team had been negotiating with the villagers for some time and finally, they agreed to retire both elephants in return for regular community support. They were brought to the Mondulkiri Sanctuary in 2014. Following several months of rest and vigorous feeding at the Mondulkiri Sanctuary, the two have gained a total of 729 kg. Their chronic conditions have improved immensely and their Bunong families are thrilled to see them feeling well again. They also understand now, that being free is a much better life for them, they often come visit and bless the elephants.

Part 1: Mondulkiri Protected Forest (Khmer)
In 2003, WWF initiated a feasibility study for applying the highly successful Southern African approach to protected area management in the Mondulkiri Protected Forest (MPF) in Cambodia's Eastern Plains.
This documentary details what WWF and its government partners-the Forestry Administration and the General Department of Administration for Nature Conservation and Protection (the Ministry of Environment)-has achieved in MPF by laying the foundations for effective protected forest management, and shows how this approach has been used to begin supporting local livelihoods and increase community ownership of this unique and globally irreplaceable Dry Forests Landscape.
A special thanks to the Darwin Initiative and Habitat Hotels who supported the making of this documentary.

The Mondulkiri Project Experience
MONDULKIRI PROJECT
In early February, one of my best friends in the world, JL, and I, had a random idea: to go on a spur-of-the-moment backpacking trip through Cambodia. Hands down, one of the most spontaneous, and consequently one of the most unforgettable adventures I’ve had thus far.
Decided to travel to this province called Mondulkiri in the country’s wild northeast, home to several elephant sanctuaries. And it was amazing.
Accommodations were spartan, we had only a flimsy mosquito net to protect us from the elements—giant spiders on the wall, frog in the toilet, rats and monkeys breaking into our cabin. But, we were up for the challenge. We didn’t really know what we were up against, but that made it all the more exciting.
We set off on a rough road, on the back of a rusty pickup, and embraced what was to come.
While most of Cambodia is lined by ricefields, this remote corner remains largely untouched, blanketed with dense jungle, and protected from illegal logging by The Mondulkiri Project. The Project hopes to provide as safe and as natural a habitat as it can, to its 5 rescued female elephants. You see, it is due to (1) deforestation and (2) poaching that Cambodia’s elephant population is dwindling to a dangerous all-time low, with just around 400 left in the wild and in captivity, combined.
Most of these elephants have been subject to abuse and torture in order to tame them into submission to be exploited for hard labor and tourist activities (such as elephant riding). But despite the trauma that they’ve suffered from previous abusive owners—some of them have broken spines and cut-off tails—these magnificent creatures are gentle and kind, and we were able to walk with them, feed them, swim with them, and bathe them in the river.
As the afternoon drew to a close, and we made our way he from the sanctuary, we left, grateful for the day that was, which instilled in us a renewed sense of appreciation and admiration for the endangered species. These elephants are worth so much more than the ivory in their tusks, or their lucky tail hairs that command such a high price in the black market, or the thrill we might derive out of riding them.
I urge you to please, please practice responsible tourism, and ensure that your tourist dollars and travel activities benefit the communities that you visit. And for as long as we have them, their gentle giants too.

Pardon the amateurishness. By no stretch of the imagination am I a professional vlogger or videographer (evidenced by the fact that I have zero subscribers as of this posting haha ), just a regular girl who went somewhere and experienced things and wanted to share it with whomever would listen.

Mondulkiri Project || Mr Tree say thank you for helping him raise the money needed to buy Princess
Today the Mondulkiri Project bought Princess the elephant from 12 Bunong families who live in Memong Commune in Mondulkiri Province. Princess will now spend the rest of her life in our lovely sanctuary, far away from elephant rides and hard physical work. We are very happy that the close friendship between Princess and Comvine will continue.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who donated to our “Help us Buy Princess the Elephant” fundraiser. We would also like to thank all our guests who helped us with the money we needed to buy her.
With your continued support we hope to continue to rescue an elephant every year.
Trekking in Mondulkiri (Putang village)
Trekking in Mondulkiri province from Putang village (Putang Community Center) to Ou Reang waterfall. We spend around 4 hours for walking across many places such as bat cave, fews waterfall and many wonderful landscape.
First night, we slept in village with local people (Ethnic minorities) via our tour management. It's really a great experience that I recommend.
2nd day, we start trekking to that waterfall and have lunch at there that make from tour guide. They use bamboo to cook. It's amazing, food taste is really good. After lunch we can swim, take bathing. water is clear and really cold.
