Canyonlands National Park-Needles District-Elephant Hill Trail
Here is some video of what you have to drive over to get over Elephant Hill in the Needles District at Canyonlands National Park in Utah. I wouldn't recommend this unless you have a high clearance 4X4 vehicle.
Hiking Elephant Hill to Chesler Park Viewpoint in Canyonlands National Park (The Needles), Utah
We hiked from the Elephant Hill Trailhead to Chesler Park Viewpoint in Canyonlands National Park (The Needles), Utah. Give the video a thumbs up, leave a comment and share it with your friends and family ???? See more family travels on YouTube:
Canyonlands National Park is divided into three districts: Island in the Sky, The Needles and The Maze. This hike is in The Needles district, about one hour twenty South of Moab, UT. While Island in the Sky has amazing views on canyons, The Needles is a paradise for hikers with trails for short and long day hikes as well as overnight trips. This hike was about 6 miles. Hiking up Elephant Hill 4WD Road - Canyonlands National Park
The confluence of the Colorado River and Green River is located in the northern part of the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park in Utah. This recording is at the Elephant Hill trailhead that provides indirect access to the overlook. The trails in the area take you across a number of desert plains and small slick rock canyons that are adorned with strange looking Mushrooms, Spires and Needles that are unique to Canyonlands National Park.
Canyonlands National Park is located in southeastern Utah near the town of Moab. It's a colorful, fantastical landscape that's been eroded by the Colorado and Green Rivers into countless canyons, mesas, and buttes.
Legislation creating the park was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on September 12, 1964.
The park is divided into four districts: the Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze, and the rivers themselves. While these areas share a primitive desert atmosphere, each retains its own character.
Author Edward Abbey (Cactus Ed, whom I met privately with a few years before his passing...) was a frequent visitor who described Canyonlands as ...the most weird, wonderful, magical place on earth—there is nothing else like it anywhere.

Elephant Hill 4 wd trail-Canyonlands, National Park--2 3 2017
Check out Elephant Hill road--as seen from the point of view of a 2004 Discovery II Landrover. This one has been on my bucket list for a long time, and we decided to drive in rather than back pack in, so I didn't have all of my 4-wheeling gear that I wish I would have.
That being said, the landrover handled the trail exceptionally well, especially given the fact that I had normal all-terrain tires, and the vehicle was not lifted up at all. You can see from the video that there are some crazy rocky places, that another 2 inches and real off-road tires would have been nice, but we survived.
Super fun, and unbelievable scenery. Once you get to Devils Kitchen, driving South towards the Joint trail is unbelievable. I'm going back for sure!

Lost Canyon Hike and Trail Guide - Canyonlands National Park - Needles District
The Lost Canyon Trail in Canyonlands National park from the junction with Squaw Canyon to the Squaw Flats trailhead. Not my favorite of the canyons in the area. Walls were close and you couldn't see too much, however once out of Lost Canyon things opened up and there were some very beautiful areas.
Elephant Hill to Chesler Park
The initial segment of our hike into Virginia Park. Very windy.
Elephant Hill Switchbacks
Driving down the backside of Elephant Hill. The sign says to back down the short leg of the switchback. It's steeper than it looks, and it feels much narrower than it looks in the video. ;)
This is older footage that we just dug up while refreshing some trail info for our Moab Jeep Rental office.
