Before you visit Chiang Mai please do your research about ethical treatment of Elephants and go to a camp or sanctuary - please don't ride the elephants! Riding of them is terrible for them and theres some really bad procedures used on baby elephants to make them subservient and broken.

Erawan National Park is a 550 km2 park in western Thailand in the Tenasserim Hills of Kanchanaburi Province, Amphoe Si Sawat in tambon Tha Kradan. Founded in 1975, it was Thailand's 12th national park. The major attraction of the park is Erawan Falls, a waterfall named after the erawan, the three-headed white elephant of Hindu mythology. The seven-tiered falls are said to resemble the erawan.

Erawan Falls, Erawan National Park Kanchanaburi - Thailand 2019
Located in West Thailand in the Tenasserim Hills range of Kanchanaburi Province, it is home to one of the most popular waterfalls in the country. Founded in 1975 as Thailand’s 12th National Park, it is covering an area of 550 km².
The major attraction of the park is the 7-tiered Erawan Falls with emerald green ponds. There are also several impressive and long caves within the park, some of them deeper inside the park, few of them along the roads around the park. The park and the falls are named after the three-headed white elephant of Hindu mythology. The top tier of the falls is said to resemble an elephant head.

Spent the day at Elephant Nature Park. It is very important that if you visit Thailand, you do NOT ride on the elephants. Instead, please support the elephant sanctuaries like Elephant Nature Park (
At the sanctuaries, you get to see the elephants in their natural environment. They are not abused and trained to do stupid tricks.

Saiyok Elephant park - Kanchanaburi Thailand
While in Kanchanaburi, Thailand I had mentioned to my wife that I wanted to have a ride on the elephant so we travelled to Saiyok Elephant Park and the elephants looked well kept and in good condition. However the driver of the elephant kept hitting him on the head with an 'ankush' or a sharp hook and laughing. I could see on top of the elephants head a warn area where it gets hit, the moral of this is if you don't like elephant cruelty don't ride and keep away from these type of activities.

In Chiang Mai you can find a lot of activities with elephants, but in the most of them elephants are mistreated. We saw how elephants had to carry tourists with temperatures over 35º C. It's very sad, but we found an elephant sanctuary where elephants are protected (Elephant Nature Park). One of the most beautiful memories of the trip.
In Kanchanaburi you must visit the Death Railway. Going across this route you will be amazing landscapes and feel the real Thailand.

ERAWAN WATERFALL THAILAND | bus from Kanchanaburi | travel vlog #6
Today, we took the bus from Kanchanaburi to the beautiful Erawan Falls. It is said to be one of the most incredible waterfalls in Thailand. It has seven tiers, and we (of course) walked all the way to the top. It was a bit crowded but still very beautiful. There are many places along the way where you can take a dip - but watch out for the fish, they nibble at your feet! Great experience. Enjoy the video

Elephant Nature Park. Thailand.
This was a very eye-opening experience at the Elephant Nature Preserve. There are about 35 elephants here that have been rescued from abuse at either tourist elephant trekking businesses or logging companies that use elephants to haul logs. There is a long tradition of beating elephants into submission when they are young so they will behave well to do whatever work it is that you want them to do. It's truly horrible what is done to these elephants. NEVER, NEVER ride an elephant that has a seat/harness/basket up top. This is terrible for the elephant's back and cripples them. Do NOT go on tourist trekking trips where you ride elephants this way. The only humane way to ride an elephant is to sit on their neck with no harness. Their neck is actually much stronger than their back. Amazing trip and recommended to all- Elephant Nature Park. They have an office in Chiang Mai and take you by bus to a VERY remote area about an hour and a half away.
Erawan Waterfall, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand
The seven level Erawan Waterfalls are located in a national park not far from the River Kwai and still in Kanchanaburi Province. It is Thailand's 12th largest National Park and the waterfall is named after the Erawan, a mythological Hindu three-headed white elephant.
Bring your bathing suit to swim in the lower level pools, watch out for very aggressive monkeys and come early before this tourist magnet (for both foreigners and Thais) becomes a big uphill traffic jam.

Elephants are symbols in the Thai way of life, National flag, street names, food names, tower or building names, an elephant is one of the Thai symbols or provincial symbols.
The elephant population in Thailand is divided into wild elephants and captive elephants. There are approximately 3,500 wild elephants and 3,500 captive elephants.
Captive elephants or local elephants
Domestic: Elephants are kept in a confining area for tourism, show or hiking.
Captive: Elephants are domesticated, getting intimate with human-like family. They work in neighboring areas for farming, transporting, drawing heavy loads of properties and agricultural products, etc.

Founded in 1975 as Thailand's 12th National Park. Located on West Thailand in the Tenasserim Hills of Kanchanaburi Province, it is one of the most famous national parks in Thailand.
The major attraction of the park is Erawan Falls with emerald green ponds, named after the three-headed white elephant of Hindu mythology. The top tier of the falls is said to resemble the elephant's head.
81% of the park is mixed deciduous forests and the rest, deciduous dipterocarp and dry evergreen forest. The park consists of limestone hills with elevation between 165 - 996m above the sea level with plains and a number of streams.
This video covers almost everything in the national park (tried my best). Watch, enjoy and never miss a visit to this beautiful place.
