Thurmond, West Virginia
Recorded October 16, 2019
Thurmond is a town in Fayette County, West Virginia on the New River. The population was five at the 2010 census. During the heyday of coal mining in the New River Gorge, Thurmond was a prosperous town with a number of businesses and facilities for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. Today, much of Thurmond is owned by the National Park Service for the New River Gorge National River. The C&O passenger railway depot in town now functions as a Park Service visitor center. The entire town is a designated historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. Thurmond is the least-populated municipality in West Virginia.

Elkins Cass Scenic Rail Road, West Virginia (Late October 2016)
Several months ago my mom saw a program featuring the Elkins Cass State Park Scenic Railroad. She decided to order two tickets for her an I to go on a fall excursion (hoping to see some wonderful fall folliage).
On the day of the trip we woke up very early and left our house in Wexford, PA around 6AM. We arrived in Elkins, West Virginia around 10AM, and waited until about 11AM for the train ride which lasted approximately 4 hours. It was strange that no businesses were open on Sunday, and the few that were only stayed open during the time that the train was not in Elkins, so there was no where to pick up snacks except the station store. Fortunately my mom had packed some food for us and the train provided us with lunch. About mid way through the trip the train stopped and we were able to explore an area with a waterfall for 45 minutes before returning to Elkins. The return trip was significantly faster than the trip out. I have sped up/ and time lapsed some parts of the video, but essentially the entire experience is here. We got the more expensive seats and sat in the train car at the rear which was nicer and had a better view.
Link to our 3+ hour trip to Elkins, WV at 16X and 4X time lapse. (Note this film was produced and uploaded in 4K Ultra HD, and You Tube degraded it to 1080 P HD at 48 Frames Per second. The actual film was recorded at 15-30 FPS.
This link is the trip to Elkins West Virginia time lapsed at a slower rate of 8X and 2X. Again You Tube degraded the orginal video quality significantly.

Day Odyssey Series: Wilds Of West Virginia (with March winds!)
The next in our Baltimore-based daytrip series takes us into the mountains of West Virginia...but not till after we deal with gale-force winds a couple days before! Lost our power for several hours, but it comes back on as I do my follow-up later at night!
OK-on with the odyssey...
Again beginning on Interstate 70 to give us a jump on things, we make a brief stop in Williamsport MD for a quick look at the C&O Canal's Cushwa Basin, and the restoration of the Conococheague Aqueduct.
Then on to (or into) West Virginia! Via US 11 and WV 901 we head for wicked WV 9 (mountain crossings, curves and all-but some great views) and take that west to the towns of Berkeley Springs, Keyser and Piedmont WV, where we check out the former B&O RR stations. En route, we stop at Prospect Peak for a great view into the Potomac River valley! A few all-new locations too, and the usual history!
We make our way back on MD 36, I-68, then back on 70.
Done on March 4 2018.
P.S. Still regulated to public PCs, so bear with me if I don't respond to your comments right away-but I will ASAP!

Montgomery G&P Hydraulic Elevator @ JCPenny, SouthPark Mall, Moline, IL
Sorry for the lack of uploads lately! Have been very busy with school and moving my grandma lately. Anyway, I meant to upload this video a while back and I have not gotten around to it until now. This vintage Montgomery is at JCPenny at SouthPark Mall in Moline, a great mall recently rehabilitated thanks to efforts by both the owner Macerich (who also owns NorhPark Mall in Davenport, IA; both malls were once owned by Simon) and the City of Moline. JCPenny was one of the original anchors when this mall was built. The motor on this thing is pretty good too!
FWE Episode 2 Update: Well, with me being so busy, I am having to push back the release time scale of Microsoft Sam Reads Funny Windows Errors Episode 2. The much anticipated Episode 2 should be ready to upload by Columbus Day Weekend! Sorry for the long delay, but I know I initially promised a September release, but due to so many things happening this month, that is not going to happen. I have the first 5-6 minutes complete, but I still have a lot of work left on it to do! Thank you!

Power and Distorted Relationships: The Psychology of the “Loyal Slave” and “Mammy” (Lecture)
In the final days of the America Civil War, previously isolated slave populations found the opportunity to run toward Union ships or infantry encampments. Likewise, as federal forces moved onto these plantations and publicly read the Emancipation Proclamation, newly freed slaves migrated in great numbers to the nearest city where the Freedman’s Bureau worked to reunite scattered families and provide various forms of social or economic support. Southern planters watched their slaves leave with dismay, having lived under the delusion that their “human property” saw them as patriarchs who provided daily protection from birth to death. Their “defections” stripped away any pretense of the master-slave relationship. Join Ranger Troy Harman and explore the shattered notions of the “loyal slave” and “Mammy” following the end of the war and the transformation of southern society.
