Lodgings at Pioneer Lane in Door County Wisconsin, Historic Ephraim and the Hardy Gallery
The Lodgings at Pioneer Lane is nestled in the heart of Ephraim— Door County's most picturesque vacation destination—the perfect setting for a romantic getaway anytime of the year.
Years ago hardy mid-19th century pioneers settled on the shores of Eagle Harbor—one of Lake Michigan's most spectacular natural settings. They named their new settlement Ephraim. More than 150 years later, the village looks much the same.
Ephraim delights the eye with water views and the elegantly simple white-frame architecture of its pioneer founders. The village is home to country-style restaurants, casual coffee bars, the famous Wilson's Ice Cream Store, and a variety of small shops selling gifts made by local artisans. Peninsula State Park lies on the nearby bluffs. Sister Bay is a short drive to the north along the water's edge.
As a vacation destination Ephraim offers outdoor activities from swimming and boating to cross-country skiing and snow sports. Experience Ephraim in every season: take part in Fyr Bal, a Swedish festival celebrating the end of winter; enjoy the waters of Eagle Harbor as they sparkle in the summer sunshine; view the colors of fall when autumn leaves paint the bluffs; and reflect in the quiet solitude of winter. Make Ephraim—the village of all seasons—your vacation destination.

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Watertown (#603)
[Latest Airdate: October 12, 2017]
[Original Airdate: January 19, 2017]
Watertown has everything you could ask for in an episode, and John asked for a lot. He asked to go up on the roof of the best octagon house he's ever seen. He asked a member of the oldest Civil War band in the world to polka. He asked the CEO of the largest lawnmower blade manufacturer in the United States for a lunch break. He asked Kenn Fox of Paramount Guitars to let him play a very expensive guitar, and he asked his TV crew not to save his life if he were to fall into the manure pit at Rosy Lane Holsteins. It's as varied as wonderful as it sounds. Enjoy Watertown --- John sure did!

Medical marijuana is legal in 20 states and the District of Columbia, but there are still use cases that are very controversial, like medical marijuana for children. Some claim it's a wonder drug for epilepsy, severe autism, and even to quell the harsh side effects of chemotherapy, while others decry pumping marijuana into still-growing bodies. We went to the small town of Pendleton, Oregon, where medical marijuana is legal, to visit Mykayla Comstock, an eight-year-old leukemia patient who takes massive amounts of weed to treat her illness. Her family, and many people we met along the way, believe not only in the palliative aspects of the drug, but also in marijuana's curative effect—that pot can literally shrink tumors.

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Eau Claire (#813)
[Original Airdate: April 4, 2019]
Eau Claire really IS the definition of renaissance. As John Gurda said, if you were familiar with this northwestern Wisconsin city 20 years ago, you’re not familiar with it now unless you live in Eau Claire!
The new Pablo Center for the Arts, lighted bridges and public art, many company headquarters and Phoenix Park have transformed downtown EC. Old foundational places that could never be replaced, like the Court’n House and the Paul Bunyan Logging Camp Museum, retain the roots of this city. And new things in old spaces, like the Lismore and Oxbow hotels, Banbury Place in the old Uniroyal plant, and tons of renovation on the UW-EC Campus prove a commitment to reinvestment and renovation.
This is a city infused with music, youthful energy, Kubb and tons of activity, all supported by investment and commitment. Eau Claire was the perfect place to finish our eighth season!

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Hudson (#513)
[Latest Airdate: December 20, 2018]
[Original Airdate: April 7, 2016]
When we anticipated coming to Hudson, we expected to experience a suburb of St. Paul, MN. But we had it completely backwards. Since everyone wants to live in Hudson, Minnesota built a city so that people from Hudson could just go across the river to work, right? But not all of the work is in MN. John would work at Laser Magic, Empire Bucket, Plantables, and Ciranda --- all at the same time, if he could.
There's art to be made and buy, food to be created and eaten (that's the part John likes), and there are patios to sit on, beer caves to be explored and company to be enjoyed.
Really, the character and reality here make Hudson typical of and unique to Wisconsin. A lot of the license plates may say Minnesota, but Hudson's heart says Wisconsin!

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | Menomonee Falls (#403)
[Latest Airdate: August 31, 2017]
[Original Airdate: January 22, 2015]
So Menomonee Falls is a village. Sounds small, right? Wrong! This village is giant, and is home to some really big things.
Kohls is a big employer and since John is a big shopper, he was happy to get big savings at the local store. The Menomonee Falls Little League is the biggest in the state. The garden scale train set at Shady Lane is the biggest in the Midwest. There’s big attraction for history fans at Old Falls Village, and a big opportunity for creative types at Just Kiln Time. The synchronized swimming team and their coach are a truly a big deal. The neighborhoods have big community spirit, and the menu at Harvey Moys? Need we say it?
Of course it’s Ernie Von Schledorn’s jingle that made Main Street in Menomonee Falls a destination, so we’d be remiss if we didn’t ask: Who do you know wants to go to Menomonee Falls? We do! And after seeing this episode, you will too!
