While I was in Utah for Tuacahn, I decided to swing by Zion National Park for the first time to explore a bit. In this video, I checked out the Emerald Pools Trailhead. It was an amazing experience, but damn was it hot!

Hiking Lower, Middle & Upper Emerald Pools Trail | Zion National Park
Discover the scenic trail with an amazing overview of the Lower, Middle, and Upper Emeralds Pool Trail in Zion National Park in Utah! SUBSCRIBE (it’s FREE) to our channel for more travel adventures. ???? More info in the description below.
The Emerald Pools Trailhead starts at Shuttle Stop #5 near the Zion Lodge. The trail is well-maintained and about 2 miles round trip to the Lower Emerald Pool and 2.75 miles round trip to the Upper Emerald Pool. Due to a rockfall in July 2018, the Middle and Upper Emerald Pools are not accessible via the Lower Emerald Pool Trail. However, on September 27, 2019, the Middle and Upper Emerald Pools have become accessible via the Kayenta Trail (Shuttle Stop #6).
We visited Zion National Park twice and when we hiked the Emerald Pools Trail in November 2017, we could hike to all three pools and when we came back to visit in January 2019, the trail was closed past the Lower Emerald Pool due to the July 2018 rockfall.

Utah Zion National Park: Hiking Emerald Pool Trail
Utah Zion National Park: Hiking Emerald Pool Trail
Emerald Pools, Zion National Park
Water from Heaps Canyon, originating ten miles away in the further reaches of Zion, takes a 150 meter fall in the upper Emerald Pool. From there the stream drops about 350 feet to two other pools until is reaches the Virgin River. The round trip trail from the Zion Lodge to all the pools is about 3 miles and takes about two hours. Springtime has the best waterfalls and the summer stream bed is usually dry. Slide show by John Wanserski.

You'll come across these waterfalls when hiking the Emeral Pools trail in Zion National Park.
Zion National Park is located in the Southwestern United States, near Springdale, Utah. A prominent feature of the 229-square-mile (590 km2) park is Zion Canyon, which is 15 miles (24 km) long and up to half a mile (800 m) deep, cut through the reddish and tan-colored Navajo Sandstone by the North Fork of the Virgin River. The lowest elevation is 3,666 ft (1,117 m) at Coalpits Wash and the highest elevation is 8,726 ft (2,660 m) at Horse Ranch Mountain. Located at the junction of the Colorado Plateau, Great Basin, and Mojave Desert regions, the park's unique geography and variety of life zones allow for unusual plant and animal diversity. Numerous plant species as well as 289 species of birds, 75 mammals (including 19 species of bat), and 32 reptiles inhabit the park's four life zones: desert, riparian, woodland, and coniferous forest. Zion National Park includes mountains, canyons, buttes, mesas, monoliths, rivers, slot canyons, and natural arches.

Emeralds Pools - Zion National Park
On this cold morning (December 2017), I explored/hiked Emeralds Pool at Zion National Park in the state of Utah. Emeralds Pool is a trail for children and adults alike to hike and view breathtaking scenery. There are waterfalls, pools, and a dazzling display of moonlights that create the Emeralds Pool trail system.

Exploring Zion National Park | Narrows, Emerald Pools, & More
Kutthroat Outdoors tackles 4 hikes in one afternoon as we set out to explore the landscapes of Zion National Park. We venture into the world famous Narrows, stroll down the Pa'rus trail, and hike into the Lower Emerald Pools. Tag along as your favorite outdoorsmen and a woman take you on a tour of one of the world's most popular National Parks.
Along the way we find massive beetles, sizzling hotdogs, freezing cold water, scenic waterfalls, and the peaceful flowing rivers that carved these magnificent canyon attractions.
The first hike we experienced was The Grotto, although it sounds cool, it's not. It's a connecting trail from shuttle stops that took around 10 minutes. From the end of the Grotto we continued on to the Lower Emerald Pools. A 0.8 mile paved hike to the falls and the beautiful pools of water below. Typically you can venture on from this point to the Middle and Upper Emerald Pools above, but doe to unstable rock and a massive rockslide earlier in the season, these trails were shutdown for the safety of the parks visitors. We then shuttled up the Canyon to hike The Narrows, one of the most popular tourist attractions Utah has to offer. Due to the point in the season, plunging temperatures and a lack of sunshine made these waters nearly impassable (30 degrees). We made the mistake of not renting out water shoes and waiters at the visiting center for this bone chilling trek. The water on this 5 mile hike goes nearly chest deep at points and we were numb some 20 minutes down the trail, so we turned around. Definitely get the water gear... We then rounded out the day with a relaxing stroll down the Pa'rus trail. A popular 1.8 mile biking trail, as we followed the banks of the Virgin River which continues to be the driving force of the water based erosion that created this jaw-dropping park. Watch as we find some critters and end the day with a magnificent sunset over the massive red rock walls of Zion National Park.

QuickTrailTip - Emerald Pools, Zion National Park
Our second Quick Trail Tip installment: short videos of trails we've hiked and what to expect on the journey.
The Emerald Pool Trails are in Zion National Park. It's a nice moderate hike book-ended by convenient shuttle stops.
As of production/posting of this video, those trails are closed due to maintenance needed from storm damage. Check the National Parks website for the latest updates.
