Join Us at the Texas Butterfly Festival
Every fall, thousands of people head south to the Lower Rio Grande Valley for the nation's premier butterflying event! The annual Texas Butterfly Festival takes place late October-early November, during the peak of butterfly season and migration. At this time, deep south Texas is typically in bloom--full of colorful flowers and fantastic butterflies, not to mention hundreds of beautiful bird species!
It is a truly spectacular event and well worth the trip for unique sightseeing opportunities and exceptional camaraderie. Whether you are an experienced naturalist or a curious outdoor enthusiast, this is the place to be! Learn more about the National Butterfly Center, in Mission, Texas, which hosts this event, as well as expert guides, award-winning chefs, and ultra-rare butterflies you may enjoy as a festival registrant at TexasButterflyFestival.com
Did you know nearly 150 species of North American butterflies can be seen only in the Lower Rio Grande Valley (LRGV) of Texas, or by traveling to Mexico?
In fact, more than 300 species of butterflies may be found in the LRGV, and more than 200 species have been seen at the National Butterfly Center, including a number of rarities and U.S. Records!
Incredibly, almost 40% of the 700+ butterflies that can be found in the United States can be seen in this three-county area at the southernmost tip of Texas, where the subtropical climate makes it possible to enjoy the outdoors year 'round.
WARREN COUNTY HISEY PARK GUIDED NATURE HIKE
Join Bill, Nina and Dave, a team of Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalists as they lead a group or guests on a nature hike at the Warren County Hisey Park near Caesar Creek Gorge. We had a great time and saw many interesting plants, as well as evidence of deer, foxes, frogs, insects, wetland plants, and the vernal pool that is there. It was an Indian Summer day and the weather was nice.
