TOP 7 BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN CATALONIA
Catalonia has been in the news for a couple of months. First the overtourism protests, then the fight for independence. Since the political tensions have not yet been resolved the region’s tourism industry has felt the impact. The international flight bookings fell 17 percent since Oct 1. Many tourists are rebooking trips to other parts of Spain. The revenue from tourism in October is estimated to decrease by 15 percent. Nevertheless, Barcelona still remains one of the most popular destinations for international tourists. Catalonia offers much more than the fabulous city though. Discover the top places to visit in Catalonia.

Barcelona Trip '15
To start off into 2015 with an amazing experience, we took the opportunity to travel to one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. We spent five days in Barcelona, exploring the city's treasures and living the Spanish culture. I learned to love the city and its lifestyle, it really is an enchanting place and I would go back anytime.
The places we visited:
-Sagrada Familia: Obviously! You can't afford to miss out on this huge and astonishing cathedral if you are in Barcelona :)
-Encants: A huge flea market on three platforms, located underneath an architecturally interesting and very modern roof.
-Museu Picasso
-Museu de la Xocolata
-We stumbled across a few festivities since it was the beginning of carnival time while we stayed there. We saw a huge procession with many dressed up children and adults, all accompanied by loud drumming noise.
-La Rambla: The long shopping street starting at Plaça de Catalunya, ending at the harbour. If you don't want to spend a lot of money while your stay, I would recommend not to go there. Because you will spend your money on this street for sure!
-Boqueri: While strolling down La Rambla we turned right to enter a side street (By no means can I remember the name of it, however, the Wok-to-go store is at the corner where you have to turn right). We found ourselves in a colourful, lovely smelling and relatively loud area of a food market. It is amazing WHAT you can purchase there! And let me tell you, the Spanish food you'll find there is delicious.
-We also came across this nice little festivity where Spanish and Catalan people gathered on a public square to practice round dance. I'm afraid the clip showing it in my video doesn't do it justice! It was amazing to stand there and see how all of these people danced around their belongings which they've put in the middle of the circle they formed. If I had known the (very complicated) dancing steps, I would have loved to take part!
-Tibidabo: The city's second (and a bit higher) mountain. Europe's oldest fairground is located on top of it and nothing beats the view it offers!
-Parc Güell: No material included in the video due to technical issues. However, this is another Must-Do on your list of what to do while in Barcelona. The most beautiful park I've ever seen, there is no way you'll be disappointed if you decide to visit it, trust me!
-Walks along the seafront
-Playa de Barcelona

Places To Visit In Costa Brava: Tossa de mar, Blanes, Empuriabrava
Places To Visit In Costa Brava-Tossa de mar-Blanes-Empuriabrava
The Costa Brava is one of the most beautiful areas of Catalonia and probably the whole of Spain. Its coast is lapped by the crystal waters of the Mediterranean and its interior overlooked by the spectacular and mighty Pyrenees.
The Costa Brava is a 160-kilometre stretch of beautiful, rugged coastline in the region of Catalonia in the North East corner of Spain. Natural beauty, endless miles of sandy beaches and summer sunshine. You'll find modern, international tourist resorts with high-rise hotels alongside unspoilt fishing villages, sheltered rocky coves and medieval towns with ancient castles. The Costa stretches from Blanes, North of Barcelona, to Roses near the French border.
TOSSA DE MAR:
Tossa de Mar is a municipality belonging to the county of La Selva, in the province of Girona, on the Costa Brava so this is a perfect place to enjoy its beaches. In the bay of Tossa is a small promontory on the beach, in which a medieval walled city lies, called the Vila Vella, who has seven round towers. Its origin is estimated in the twelfth century and was built to prevent pirate attacks. Inside are the remains of a church and the palace of the governor of the XIV century.
A dozen fine beaches and bays (most notably Platja Gran, Mar Menuda and Cala Giverola) and the imposing Cadiretes massif, ideal for exploring on foot or by mountain bike, make up the privileged natural surroundings of Tossa de Mar. The historic centre of the village is dominated by a towering 12th century wall which encircles the quiet streets and the seafaring atmosphere of the Vila Vella.
Imagine a place where you can travel in time back to a former age…Tossa is a real open-air museum where prehistoric remains overlap with Roman Túrissa, medieval Tursa and today's Tossa, one-time retreat for artists and intellectuals and now host town for tourists and visitors. This heritage gives evidence of all those people who loved this piece of land and made it their home, from now on also yours.
BLANES:
Just 60 km north of Barcelona, Blanes extends for 4km along the stunning south coastline of the COSTA BRAVA. Rich with long sweeping sandy bays, little rocky coves, or deserted bays... If you like the wonders of nature Blanes has a perfect combination of nature, climatic conditions and topographical feature. The Mediterranean town of Blanes is a popular tourist hot spot for Spanish holiday makers, as well as those from other European nations. Blanes also prides itself in offering its visitors a taste of real Spain, with traditional fiestas & street, as well as the vibrant family friendly atmosphere with attractive parks and flower beds throughout the town. The nicest and most enchanting beaches you will find lie on the Costa Brava!! Beaches here have been awarded the European Blue Flag for cleanliness and clarity of water for several years running. The weather is in the main welcoming all year round. With average highs of 31°C in the summer months & 16°C in the winter, it is possible to enjoy an outdoor life at any time of the year. However be aware during the winter season low temperatures can be a good deal cooler than in Spain's southern regions.
EMPURIABRAVA
Empuriabrava (Ampuriabrava in Spanish) is one of the most unusual towns along the Costa Brava.Sporting nearly 24 kilometers (15 miles)1 of canals, and 5,000 private jetties, Empuriabrava is the largest residential marina in the world. They call itself “the largest Marina in the world “, an area with more water ways than even Venice. Whether this is a fact remains to be proved. Empuriabrava, however, has an immense number of canals, where boat owners have their own private moorings in front of their houses.Empuriabrava was built on a swamp in 1968 (at that time still Ampuriabrava). Today the place covers an area of over 503 hectares, about 10 % of the total area are canals or port, and this probably counts primarily for the popularity of the resort. From the tiniest boat to the biggest cruising yacht, everything can be found here.

A tour of Costa Barcelona: the coast, countryside and culture | AD Press Trip
I was lucky to be invited on a tour of Costa Barcelona - the region surrounding the city that is such a popular European tourist destination. Step outside the urban sprawl and this is a taster of what you can discover including vineyards in the imposing silhouette of Montserrat, characterful towns that embrace the Mediterranean and mind-blowing cultural experiences that I’ll remember for a lifetime. I’m already itching to return with my girls.

BARCELONA & MADRID SOLO TRAVEL TIPS #BONHOYAGE
*special case with the free walking tour
I was the only one who showed up so Mel kindly gave me a 'private' tour. Not only was this one of the more interestingly informative walking tours I took (Mel was so personable and made the tour super fun and engaging), it was certainly one of the highlights of this entire trip. The conversation and company Mel provided left a lasting impression on me. He shared with me about his life, imparted his wisdom onto me and it truly felt like I was exploring the city with a good friend. An excellent tour guide but an even greater man. Can't speak highly enough of this experience. Again, the 1-1 tour was an exception, but I am confident Mel will deliver above and beyond even in group settings.
How long was your trip? 14 days/2 weeks not including travel days
Who'd you go with? Myself
What'd you take with you? A carry on suitcase and a backpack (that I was able to stuff in the suitcase - video on packing, costs, etc. coming soon! Also, feel free to me know in the comments below what you'd like me to cover)
Where did you go? Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Budapest and London!

Discover Barcelona !
Barcelona is a truly enchanting and vibrant Spanish city. The architecture, the culture, the history, the art, the people, the football (European) and delicious food has been packaged into one city that is Barcelona. The city happens to be Spain’s most visited
and for good reason. Barcelona is a treasure trove spanning over 2000 years and more.
The city’s Gothic quarter is home to 14th century cathedrals while the other parts of the city boast of several sculptural masterpieces.
There are many museums that exhibit some of the finest works by Dali, Picasso and many others. Rich culture and history meets modern fashion and trends in a way you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the world. The buildings in Barcelona are seldom taller than nine storeys.
Seemingly, Barcelona also likes to stay up late and party. For the pub or club hopper the city is definitely a winner. Even restaurants and eateries only start filling up at around 9-10pm. Shopping, nightlife, sightseeing, sport, music festivals and concerts
will keep you occupied and well entertained.
