New Multimedia Kiosk at Pennsylvania Welcome Center Encourages
Visitors to Turn off the Highway and Explore Lake Erie Grape and Wine Region...Ride a grape picker, Smell the grapes, Tour a winery, and Taste the goodness are among the many virtual experiences available from the touchscreen, which sits atop a 55-gallon wine barrel made from Pennsylvania oak. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center, which opened in 2006, is located on I-90 westbound, one-half mile west of the Pennsylvania New York border in North East, Pa. The most spectacular feature of the $5.3 million, 8,500-square-foot facility is its wall-to-wall windows, which look out over vast stretches of vineyards and Lake Erie. According to PennDOT, in 2010 the Welcome Center served a total of 308,365 people making it the third most visited Welcome Center in the state.
Hundreds of thousands of motorists who drive into Pennsylvania from New York every year will get a first-hand look inside Lake Erie's grape and wine region with the arrival of a new touchscreen kiosk at the Pennsylvania Welcome Center on I-90 in North East. This 3 minute video is an example of what can be viewed at the kiosk display.
Ride a grape picker, Smell the grapes, Tour a winery, and Taste the goodness are among the many virtual experiences available from the touchscreen, which sits atop a 55-gallon wine barrel made from Pennsylvania oak.
The interactive exhibit, supported with a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, connects visitors in a direct, engaging and unforgettable way, enticing them to stay longer and explore what is now the largest grape-growing region east of the Rockies and the largest Concord grape growing region in the world. Information about other regional attractions and accommodations is also included.

Presque Isle Bay Erie Pa Large/Smallmouth fishing (New PBs)
3rd trip of the year up to Presque Isle Bay, Lake Erie Pennsylvania. This trip had its surprises as although the
smallmouth fishing was great, the largemouth were on fire. Presque may truly be one of the best smallmouth fisheries
in the world. I only got to fish for about 5 hours, but it was an absolute blast. Fortunate to spend some time
my family.

EPA, Penn. Sea Grant: Protects Lake Erie by collecting drugs
Erie, PA residents dropped off about 600 pounds of medicine and personal care products on April 26, 2008 at the Cruise Boat Terminal Building during the Pennsylvania Sea Grant pharmaceutical collection.
Located behind the Dr. Raymond Blasco Memorial Library the collection brought in over 73,000 pills and a lots of controlled substances like narcotic pain medication, said Sara Grisè, PA Sea Grant coastal outreach specialist.
Results::
87 participants
120 gallons of materials
5 of the 120 gallons were controlled substances
About 600 pounds of medicine/personal care products
Controlled: 3,839 pills
Non-Controlled: 69,232 pills
Personal Care products: 384
The Keep Unwanted Medicine out of Lake Erie Medicine Collection Day was part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Great Lakes 2008 Earth Day Challenge.
The challenge involved over 100 collections across eight states. Lake Erie's reputation especially in the 1960s and 1970s was an extremely polluted and even dead lake. By all accounts, residents and officials have done a great job restoring Lake Erie - where fishing, boating and swimming are popular.
The EPA Lake Erie Lakewide Management Plan helped the recovery of Lake Erie. Officials have been fighting the Zebra Muscle problem in Lake Erie.
One pharmaceutical collection goal was to prevent medicine s from being discharged into Lake Erie and make sure drugs don't end up in other lakes and streams.
Many wastewater treatment plants around the world are not designed to remove the cocktail of chemicals after the drugs are flushed or dumped down the drain - and the drugs can leach out of landfills into the groundwater.
Unsung heros at pharmaceuticals collections are police and pharmacists without whom the collections wouldn't be possible. Erie Police, pharmacists accepted pharmaceuticals.
Based on experience, organizers discovered the turnout was bigger when residents don't have to preregister. Of 87 residents participating in the collection, 61 did not preregister.
And similar to the other collections, most Erie participants were older adults as 89 percent were over the age of 46. Assisting the event was ECS & R - Environmental Coordination Services and Recycling in Cochranton, PA.
Organizers of the Erie collection included PA Sea Grant, the City of Erie, Lake Erie-Allegheny Earth Force, LECOM School of Pharmacy, and Erie Times-News in Education.
Organizers partnered with WJET-TV Erie Green Campaign.
WSEE TV provided their news story for use in this video.
The PA Sea Grant received a grant from the United States EPA (EPA). The goal of the EPA Great Lakes 2008 Earth Day Challenge was the collecting and recycling of one million pounds of electronics (e-Waste) plus the collection and proper disposal of one million pills. The EPA says those goals were exceeded by 400 to 500 percent.
The Earth Healing Initiative assisted some challenge organizers by offering interfaith liaisons to volunteer and encourage members of local churches and temples to participate in the Earth Day related events in their area. This video on the projects connected to the Great Lakes 2008 Earth Day Challenge was made possible by a grant from the US EPA in collaboration with the EPA's Region 5 office, EPA Great Lakes National Program Office in Chicago and the non-profit Interfaith Earth Healing Initiative in Marquette, MI.
The EHI involves American Indian tribes and a coalition of churches, synagogues and other faith traditions joining together to heal, protect and defend the environment.

Erie, PA - Lake Erie is an Asset
Today many regions across the United States are beginning to face the fact that their freshwater supplies are limited. Water shortages are on the rise, from Charlotte to Atlanta and Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Freshwater is one of Erie, Pennsylvania's greatest assets. Located on the shores of Lake Erie our community possesses an abundance of fresh water and fresh opportunities for new businesses and businesses interested in expanding or growing to a climate that's right for growth. Abundant water, sewer, gas and electricity make it possible for us to support a wide variety of manufacturing, technology, distribution and agricultural businesses.
Erie, Pennsylvania's climate is right for business: clean air and water, no traffic congestion, a great quality of life, lower labor, real estate and utility costs, and access to regional, national and international markets by road, air, water and rail. Opportunities for business development are plentiful, local government is eager to assist and numerous resources are available to help.
Freshwater is one of Erie, Pennsylvania's greatest assets. Lake Erie offers an uninterruptible supply of water ensuring that area businesses and residents will have an ample water supply well into the future. Lake Erie provides freshwater in great abundance. It is one of the largest sources of easily accessible freshwater in the world. Today, Erie Water Works has a daily excess capacity of 36 million gallons of water. To help attract businesses to the area, Erie Water Works, in conjunction with regional economic development groups offers a combination of competitive incentives. One notable incentive is Erie Water Works' Economic Development Policy that reduces water rates by 40% for a period of five years from the date of initial billing.
Shrinking water supplies in many parts of the country have made water emergencies a common occurrence. Water supply problems in the southwest are well-known and reaching near-crisis proportions. Droughts in the southeast have led to political battles and major reform efforts. In Erie, Pennsylvania water is fresh and abundant.

Ghost Hunting The Alms House Cemetery (Collab with MichaelScotYT) Paranormal Pursuit
The Alms House cemetery is located in Fairview, Pa. The remains of 690 former residents of the Erie County Alms House were discovered in the earth during excavation of the property clearing the way for
the industrial landscape that is present today. Over 1500 burial plots were documented but only the 690 were approved to be relocated the 810+ bodies still remain at their resting spot covered by asphalt and factories (23rd and Pittsburgh Ave). The Alms House Cemetery was built for the 690 approved deceased where a mass grave was dug for their bodies and covered with dirt and trees as a memorial for their lives. May their souls rest in peace.
