Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 31, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
A crucial vote is anticipated Jan. 31 on whether to call witnesses in the Trump impeachment trial, including former national security adviser John Bolton. In a manuscript of his new book, Bolton reportedly says that Trump directly tied the holdup of nearly $400 million in military assistance to Ukraine to investigations of the Bidens.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

George Wylie - Last KCCI TV-8 Newscast - December 17, 1983
This was George Wylie's last newscast on KCCI TV Channel 8 in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday, December 17, 1983. In January of 1984, George became the primary news anchor on WOI-TV (Ames, Des Moines). At the time he left KCCI, George was the morning and Noon news anchor Tuesday through Friday, and anchored the Saturday evening 6:00 and 10:00 newscasts.
Appearing are:
George Wylie - news
Sheila O'Connor - news
Rick Swalwell - weather
Heidi Soliday - sports
Prior to the news open, we see the CBS Saturday Movie animation.
- Headlines read by George, transition to wide shot of set (with false ceiling) -- complete with teletype sound effects!
The pre-produced news open indicates that Dave Nixon, Jr. was the regular weather presenter for Saturday nights. I (Eric Wylie) later worked with Dave at KTIV TV in Sioux City, Iowa.
Connie McBurney appeared with George and the others for the 6:00 pm news earlier that evening. George and Connie had worked together on the morning and noon newscasts for many years.
Most of the first block is national news, typical for 10:00 pm local news at the time. 6:00 newscasts were typically all local, since they follow immediately after the national news.
The headline national news story this day was the IRA bombing of Herrod's Department Store in London. There are many other international and national news items in the first block.
Local news stories include:
- Women's group upset with WHO Radio management due to firing of host Julie Gammack (at end of first block)
