The Best Historic Main Street in America - Galena, IL - Main Streets of America Ep. 3
Galena, Illinois was founded in 1826, and named after the natural form of lead sulfide that was mined by Native Americans before the towns founding. Today the town serves as a popular tourist destination for Chicagoans trying to escape the busy city, and for those just wanting a nice place to spend the day. This is arguably the best historic stretch of small town main street in America in my opinion.
The series is getting on its way and still lacks some structure and I would love feedback on your part! Let me know what you liked and disliked about the series so I can improve it for you all. Thanks for watching

Adams National Historical Park
Adams National Historical Park in Quincy, Massachusetts preserves the home of Presidents of the United States John Adams and John Quincy Adams, of U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain, Charles Francis Adams, and of the writers and historians Henry Adams and Brooks Adams.
The national historical park's eleven buildings tell the story of five generations of the Adams family (from 1720 to 1927) including Presidents, First Ladies, U.S. Ministers, historians, writers, and family members who supported and contributed to their success. In addition to Peacefield, home to four generations of the Adams family, the park's main historic features include the John Adams Birthplace (October 30, 1735), the nearby John Quincy Adams Birthplace (July 11, 1767), and the Stone Library (built in 1870 to house the books of John Quincy Adams and believed to be the first presidential library), containing more than 14,000 historic volumes in 12 languages.
There is an off-site Visitors Center less than a mile away. Regularly scheduled tours of the houses are offered in season (April 19 to November 10), by guided tour only, using a tourist trolley provided by the Park Service between sites. Access to United First Parish Church, where the Adamses worshipped and are buried, is provided by the congregation for which they ask a small donation. The church is next to the street from the Visitors Center.
Is This Indiana House the ‘Portal to Hell'?
In 2014, Inside Edition was given unprecedented access to a home considered by locals in Gary, Indiana, as the “Portal to Hell.” The home was purchased by “Ghost Adventures” host Zak Bagans after the family living there reported strange voices in the basement, an apparition in the front window and strange occurrences compared to scenes from the “Exorcist” or “Poltergeist” films.
Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 30, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
House impeachment managers and President Trump’s lawyers have concluded their opening arguments in the Senate. The impeachment trial is now in the question period for both sides, when senators submit questions in writing to Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. The chief justice will read questions out loud, alternating between the majority and minority for up to eight hours.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

EXPO – Magic of the White City (Narrated by Gene Wilder)
Narrated by Gene Wilder, EXPO – Magic of the White City brings the Chicago World’s Fair to life. Experience the world of 1893 through a cinematic visit to Chicago’s Columbian Exposition.
Subscribe for more great documentaries!
Nearly 28 million people visited the Fair. Dubbed the “White City,” it inspired future innovators like Henry Ford and Frank Lloyd Wright, unveiled the Ferris Wheel and Cracker Jack®, and, in many ways, marked the beginning of the 20th century. Many of the era’s greatest achievements in science, technology and culture were unveiled there. The grounds were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famous for his design of New York City’s Central Park, and constructed under the supervision of Daniel Burnham.
The Fair was an engineering marvel. On opening day, President Grover Cleveland depressed a golden telegraph key which sent the first courses of electricity throughout the Fair powering fountains, machines, electric railways and thousands of lights. It was the first use of electricity on such a massive scale.
In addition, fairgoers enjoyed the Midway Plaisance where a one-mile boulevard of fun offered camel riding and guilty pleasures such as belly dancing, street fighting and beer drinking. Against the backdrop of 1893’s troubles with workers’ rights, prejudice, discrimination and corruption, the World’s Columbian Exposition cast a brief ray of hope for the future of humanity.
Filmed in spectacular High-Definition, EXPO – Magic of the White City immerses viewers in one of the world’s biggest extravaganzas and one of the most unforgettable events in American history. There will never be another event like it… or will there?

Ghostland An American History In Haunted Places by COLIN DICKEY
This book is an excellent read that hooks you in immediately with it's introduction: Anatomy of a Haunting.
The book in its entirety is dissected into Four Acts with the First titled, THE UNHOMELY, which is five chapters long, covers many well known and even a few haunted houses and mansions that I never knew existed.
Second Act, AFTER HOURS, which is only three chapters long, combs the land of the living to locate the dead dwelling in bars, restaurants, hotels, and brothels.
Third Act, CIVIC-MINDED SPIRITS, clocking in at five chapters, chases down the stories of apparitions inhabiting prisons and asylums, graveyards and cemeteries, and a park.
Fourth and Final Act, USELESS MEMORY, finishes strong with three chapters, slinks into the past and present to explore cities and towns.
*Ghostland* finishes with an epilogue: Ghosts of a New Machine.
A very intriguing read indeed. Perfect for book clubs, campfire/ bonfire readings, slumber parties or even enjoyed alone preferably cozied up near a fireplace if you live in colder states.
I recommend picking up a copy at your favorite book store, library, online or anywhere books are sold or rented out. Due to the genre, I give this book 5/5 Heads from Headless Ghosts! But if you won't take my word for it, here are some testimonies from authors and editors:
You wouldn't expect to read about brothels, human psychology, Victorian architecture, even a suburban Toys 'R' Us, and come out the other side with an entirely different understanding and appreciation for ghosts. But Colin Dickey's writing is just that good. *Ghostland* is strange and unsettling in the best possible way.
- Caitlin Doughty, author of *Smoke Gets in Your Eyes*
Always fascinating, sometimes horrifying, *Ghostland* is a remarkable portrait of the ways that the walking dead--or our beliefs in them--wander through, and shape, American history.
- Deborah Blum, author of *The Poisoner's Handbook*
Fascinating... a measured assessment of phenomena more often exploited for sensationalism.
- *Publishers Weekly*
Quotes included in beginning of *Ghostland*.
The main work of haunting is done by the living.
- Judith Richardson
Ghostland lies beyond the jurisdiction of veracity.
- Nathaniel Hawthorne

ch 9) Slavery Without Submission, Emancipation Without Freedom
chapter 9: A People's History (Of The United States) Howard Zinn.
~
Chapter 9, Slavery Without Submission, Emancipation Without Freedom addresses slave rebellions, the abolition movement, the Civil War, and the effect of these events on African-Americans. Zinn writes that the large-scale violence of the war was used to end slavery instead of the small-scale violence of the rebellions because the latter may have expanded beyond anti-slavery, resulting in a movement against the capitalist system. He writes that the war could limit the freedom granted to African-Americans by allowing the government control over how that freedom was gained.
'The Cleveland Strangler': The Story of a Brutal Serial Killer & His Forgotten Victims
At least 11 black women were raped and killed on Cleveland's East side between 2007 and 2009 by a man named Anthony Sowell. It's one of the worst cases of serial murder in recent history and has been largely left untold.
For Wilbert L. Cooper, who was born and raised in Cleveland, the real story lies in how Sowell was able to get away with these heinous acts for two years. These crimes say as much about the depraved killer as they do about race, class, and law enforcement in the City of Cleveland.
Wilbert goes home to dive back into the case that's haunted the city, meeting with some of Sowell's surviving victims, family members of the deceased, and the police officers who put Sowell on death row.
